Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings

decided to crunch some numbers a little and try to estimate how much non-bus modes (lRT, BRT, etc) make up Metro's total ridership numbers: 2014: 19.8% 2015: 27.6% 2016: 29.7% 2017: 32.0% 2018: 34.0% I know its no where close to painting an accurate picture, but if the ~2% increase per year that's b...

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail

I find this a bit odd since iirc O'Driscoll voted against a northstar extension study back in 2015. Though I can sorta see his reasoning but in a few different situations. For example I don't remember to much of the Duluth flooding back in 2012 but does anyone recall if the rail line was still in op...

Re: Suburbs - General Topics

Maybe a should of clarified but I mainly meant small in terms of area not population. So I do agree that suburbs should be large enough to support services like police and fire departments I would argue that the exact population depends on how large of area they have to cover. Also since you mention...

Re: Suburbs - General Topics

I remember one of my teaches jokingly said Hopkins way so small and irregularly shaped it might as well be split between Edina and SLP. It was all in good humor but still did take a little offence to it (not by much mind you) since I grew up in Hopkins and for the most part still like it and would b...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

While back I said I would maybe put together some type of image/chart comparing time to get to each station on the SWLRT route with our current transit system and I manage to do one part of it (first time trying to make one of these so its a bit rough). Times are slightly different than my initial r...

Re: Northern Lights Express

I wonder, we all are aware of the link between economic development and rail, but how strong is the connection between population growth and rail. Assuming the NLX doesn't get hit with reduced speeds and number of round trips again, does anyone think the project will reverse Duluth's currently decre...

Re: High Speed Rail MSP to Rochester

I might be alone in this but without a connection to Chicago is there any other reason to push for 150+ mph for a train to Rochester. Considering the distance its kinda like arguing to upgrading the northstar to a high speed train to get to St. Cloud. I've always been a little pessimistic whit regar...

Re: Hopkins - General Topics

Interesting. I do remember Driskill"a being remodeled 2 or 3 years ago now, only thing I miss is the old photographs of Hopkins hanging on the walls. Any word on what their gonna do with the property? Kinda hope they keep it as a supermarket count a few specialty markets, it's the only one inside th...

Re: Hopkins - General Topics

still find it a little weird the have it listed under current projects if the East End study is more of a guide to what Hopkins wants to do for development.

Though since its being treated as a guide I wouldn't be surprised if they used the findings from the study for another area in the city.

Re: Hopkins - General Topics

Was browsing through the Hopkins city website and stumbled upon a project I haven't really heard before under Current Projects named the "East End Redevelopment" The projects page doesn't really tell much, only states a study was initiated several years ago and gives a small site plan so I wouldn't ...

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings

been wondering this for a while, I've been fare checked a few times (most of them where when I made the mistake of getting of at target field during a twins game) and every time I simply had to show my go-to card to get a pass. So does anyone know if the Metro Transit police have anyway to check the...

The article mentions along with the tech center there is one more parcel they describe as "small and irregular", any idea where it is?

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail

I'm just surprised the escalator was working this year. Though I wonder if it might be better if they started putting a small ticket price for the holiday train. Now I know this is a controversial statement put let me put froward three points to defend my stance: the money doesn't have to be complet...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

Table 5-2 in the document you linked has the station by station breakdown. Hmm, seeing it broken down that way makes me suspect that these might not be including time at stations, which could add pretty significantly to the total trip. If that's the case, anyone got a good estimate to how long a tr...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

With regards to how SWLRT will fare against express/standard buses, its important to point out that the latter only has better time if your going from end to end but some of the stops in between it seems like the former will be the better option Tried making a (very) rough estimated of how long it w...

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings

While on the subject of changes in regulation in terms of weight requirements, is there any additional regulations that artificially increase the weight of freight locomotives/cars as well?

Re: Hopkins - General Topics

Was going through the Hopkins 2040 plan and noticed under goal 2 Accommodating Growth (page 103) they have a little bullet point saying "Encourage an anchor development at the east end of Mainstreet that supports transit and complements Downtown Hopkins." Since this is one of the few planned project...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

For a while the Met Council was counting X number of developments of some total value along the Green Line. I think there was some wishful counting among the developments in that some would have happened regardless. There are certainly some developments, like The Moline, which have finished already...
