Re: Hopkins - General Topics

I haven't been keeping track of it but I think the redevelopment of the Wendy's site on Blake might of fallen through given how I just biked by yesterday and there's a sign for a El Loro restaurant coming soon

Re: Bike Share

I assumed the ebikes where gonna be docked given they might cost a little to much to just left standing free, was just putting out a hopthetical question if we ever do get dockless ebikes.

Re: Bike Share

You know I wonder assuming all of them where dockless, how far out some the e-bikes will end up at end of each day, given how I've seen several different brands/types around hopkins and only one of which has a hub nearby.

Re: Hopkins - General Topics

At first I though They where going to use the entire lot (which would of been about 2.5 acres) but it looks like they are only using the grass area and leaving the parking lot as is.

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail

I know I have joked in the past that if the Twins go the way of a certain hockey team that shared a similar name with the train, there would be room for a proper station. But in all seriousness I kinda think it would be better to find a new central hub for rail if we ever get to that far though I do...

Looking at the detour offered, 10 bucks says most people will use Blake Rd instead

Re: Hopkins - General Topics

Just noticed the River Bluffs trail is closed between 11th and Shady Oak coming home today. Not sure if its necessary related but might be a sign that some SWLRT construction in the area might be starting soon.

Don't know how many people here are keeping track on Virgin Trains USA (brightline) but apparently they just started construction on the Orlando leg a day or two ago. https://press.gobrightline.com/showPressRelease/100061720 Not sure if this is uncommon for a big project or not but I'm a little surp...

Re: Minnetonka Area – General Topics

From looking at all three schemes, here's what I noticed: They seem to be intending to make Red Cir Dr. a two way street which makes me retract my previous statement about having doubts that the road network is gonna be changed a little. their kinda appear to be bumping right next to a already estab...

Re: Minnetonka Area – General Topics

I have doubts that the road network is gonna be changed anytime soon. But adding some sidewalks and maybe touching up the trail system might work out well. As for why Opus is attracting more attention than Shady Oak, only thing I can think of is its kinda straddling the Minnetonka/Hopkins boarder so...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

If I had to take a guess, they might end up routing buses to Blake and have them turn on to 2nd St. NE and hopefully if the intersection isn't completely closed, they might be able get back on excelsior via Jackson Ave N (if not they might have to go all the way down to Washington Ave N). This would...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

Passed by the Hopkins depot on on the way home and it seems they started digging a little, must be for the future LRT bridge over excelsior. which reminds me, has there been any postings about whether excelsior blvd me be closed for any length of time? I ask because its the main roadway all buses us...

Re: Suburban Malls and Associated Retail News

Don't know if this has been talked about before but does anyone have a good source that estimates how many people visit each of the various malls? I know MOA gets around 40 million visitors a year and I think Rosedale gets something like 12 million a year (though I think that number was from 2011), ...

Re: Excelsior and Lake Minnetonka Cities - General Topics

Only real way good trail connection from Hopkins to Wayzeta I see is putting a trail on Mcginty Rd and have it connect to to the Minnetonka LRT trail at Minnetonka Blvd, but that's mainly from personal experience since my family use to have this round trip where we would bike towards Carver Park Res...

So assuming amtrak takes it, where gonna (technically) have two amtrak stations less than 15 miles apart with no direct way to travel between the two besides having to take a transfer on the green line. I'm trying to think of another pair of stations with a similar situation but I don't know amtraks...

Re: Hopkins - General Topics

I thought the historic core used to be a little more south than its current location but i could be wrong. I see your reasons behind why the district should arbitrarily extended the district past excelsior and agree with them, though I might still argue extending that extending it one block south to...

Re: Hopkins - General Topics

wonder if there's any cause to warrant extending the overlay district south past Excelsior. there's a small strip of general business between 11th and 8th that will be right next to the downtown station and of course there's the honda dealership and supervalue that could be redeveloped.

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings

decided to crunch some numbers a little and try to estimate how much non-bus modes (lRT, BRT, etc) make up Metro's total ridership numbers: 2014: 19.8% 2015: 27.6% 2016: 29.7% 2017: 32.0% 2018: 34.0% I know its no where close to painting an accurate picture, but if the ~2% increase per year that's b...
