Re: Interstate 94

I kinda prefer the former because it creates redundancies (I remember how fun it was trying to cross the ferry bridge when 35 was down), plus imo a grade separated freeway is still preferable to a strode with dozens of unsafe crossings, although you can argue that the latter is easier to convert.

>implying they wouldn't just push it further west of the lake and make it stupidly big
I went to visit family in some growing cities in the sunbelt last winter, I know how massive those beltways can get.

Re: Interstate 94

Kinda disagree since iirc one original studies that first looked at the concept of induced demand in highways noted that parallel routes were often the lesser of two evils over just expanding one by the same amount of lanes as the actual induced demand was notable less, it created redundancies for b...

Re: Interstate 94

I was thinking about the proposed reimagining of i94 and supposing they go full out with the boulevard idea. Is anyone else getting the sinking idea that it might be a case of 1 step forward, 2 or even 3 steps back as I wouldn't be surprised if plans to widen 36, 5, and maybe 62 geta introduced and ...

Re: Hopkins - General Topics

Have they finalized plans for the new bike trail/lane on 17th from excelsior to hw7? Won't be another 8th ave but assuming they didn't choose the painted lanes that might be ambitious. Still say Hopkins could use a better trail along excelsior blvd (yes I know we have the cedar lake but it's good to...

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT

Maybe I'm jaded but I don't see the point in even bothering with these articles. There just there to farm clicks for people that already had a bone to pick with the lrt, I doubt it swayed anyone from the pro to anti camp Same can be said with pro lrt/transit to an extent, specifically ones that are ...

I'm pretty sure both businesses model where a faulty blitzscaling attempt. I know for a fact Uber abandoned it's driverless and air taxi development at the start at the pandemic and pivoted to scooters and food delivery to mixed success. And I don't think they have any plans to revive it since their...

Funny enough, the only time I've ever been hit on bike was by a school bus because I was being stupid with a friend and trying to race through the pick up drop off bus loop and literal biked straight into to one.

I also remember one that started from Normandale Community College that ended at Opus and no it wasn't that weird trolly bus that went back and forth from SW station.
Took it once or twice but not sure if its still a thing

Re: Discontinued Bus Routes

Route 12 has been dead for like 6-7 years iirc, G branch used to be an am westbound from downtown that used to make a full run down mainstreet in Hopkins, C either served United health or Opportunity Partners I'm not sure which, the circles have always been a mess. not sure what the 70 is about, may...

Re: Freight Rail News and Happenings

I know their nowhere near the neck of the world but does anyone have a rundown on what the hell is happening with NS? I tried to do some basic surface level digging and it kept kinda seems like both the current NS board/CEO and the investment firm trying to oust them are accusing the other of being ...

Anyone still old enough to remember rainbow?

I also wonder how well the bulk wearhouse stores because I can't be the only one who's noticed there are fewer Sam's clubs around the cities and a few Costco's seem to close sooner

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail

Part of me wants to wager which will happen first
the US will get true HSR first in one shape or form (i.e NEC upgrades, CAHSR, brightline west, etc) and start to make some progress after decades of trying

Or Northstar being extended 30ish miles

It's neck and neck tbh

I always like to joke that there's plenty of room for a station if you give the Twins a new stadium, I mean 25 ish years is the general shelflife for stadiums The Twins moved out of the Metrodome after 25 years, and the Vikings left after 30 Both teams left Metropolitan Stadium after 20. Does anyone have any video's of the old trails around the metro? I found some old video's of the Cedar Lake Regional Trail before construction for SWLRT started 5-6 years ago and got an unintended wave of nostalgia and I swear there used to be another gravel travel besides the Luce Line, Minnetonka,...

Re: Transit Crime

The only number that mater are the ridership numbers, if transit is viewed as "safe" then more and more people will be willing to ride again, although if there's still a lingering fear about it then the recent increase might start to slow down and or plateau.
