Re: International Viewers - Blocking IPs

ohhhhhhh I was wondering why the Chinese government would take the time to block a Minnesota development forum!

Good thing the U has a free VPN that anyone with an active UMN email can use.

Re: The Eclipse

Yeah but those are commuter routes. I want a trip right now that gets me from SLP to downtown. And if that's what I want then it's 10 minutes by car or 34 minutes by bus.

Re: The Eclipse

Travel time includes time not spent on the freeway. And you're assuming no traffic. And 8 minutes only gets you to the edge of SLP or GV, where the 14/17/12 and various express buses all get you downtown pretty easily. Driving to a downtown parking ramp And buses have to wait in traffic too. Edit: ...

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)

You could definitely argue that (inevitable?) gentrification is harmful to the current residents and businesses that will get priced out, and that that's enough harm such that we shouldn't build the corridor. Not that I would. EDIT: I don't have time to read this right now , but I find this quote in...

I find Hong Kong very interesting. The population of Kowloon and Hong Kong Island combined is 3,309,033 (Hong Kong overall has 7,061,200), with an area of about 49 square miles (Hong Kong overall has 426 square miles). Additionally, much of the "country" is dedicated to nature preserves an...

Re: Why not Monorail? and transit / Elephant accidents.

I've got to wonder with things like this (and BRT, for example) that if they're so great and have been around for decades, why are they only at Disneyland/medium-sized Appalachian state schools? It's not like there's only one transit system in the world and Bombardier has some vice-grip monopoly on...

You beat me to it. We had some preliminary discussion going on here: https://forum.streets.mn/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=257 There's probably not enough interest to warrant separate threads for Southdale Mall, new Southdale Park & Ride, 1 Southdale Place, etc. I propose we merge all the talk into...

Re: MSP Airport

There's always a ton of rumors on airliners.net and more often than not they turn out to be nothing but rumors. That said the latest rumor regarding MSP is that sometime in the 1st or 2nd quarter of 2014 Minneapolis will be getting a second Asian destination. The consensus so far has been a Korean ...

Looks like we'll get to see Air France A340-300 five days a week next summer... AF is launching a seasonal flight to supplement the daily Delta CDG flight. I feel like I'm among the few on this forum who are very interested in MSP news. And (not that this really matters) this flight actually goes f...

What exactly is the seat layout going to look like in these new cars? From mulad's pictures, I can't quite tell but it looks like every seat is facing forward/backward. Correct me if I'm wrong, but on the Hiawatha there are some bench style seats that face toward the windows, right?

Right now, is there any chance that the 3C alignment will be used instead of the 3A? As someone who knows basically nothing the details of these type of projects, I just have to ask.

Has Metro Transit considered the possibility of using four car trains? I'm curious as to whether this could work if they had the first and fourth train overhang the platforms halfway.

Along with everyone else, I am very excited about this new asset to public transportation. However, the fact that this line will run down University at-grade and without designated right of way or signal preemption makes me very leery about the viability of this line as a reliable connector between ...

Re: Nicollet Residences

It's really not tall buildings that make cities special and urban. Look at Paris and several neighborhoods of NYC as an example. It's density and streetscape that make a difference. We should not complain that buildings aren't tall enough. We should complain that our streets are too wide and fast, ...
