Re: Pittsburgh

Looks like my barely-educated guess wasn't far off: https://www.post-gazette.com/local/region/2018/04/02/Pittsburgh-population-decline-international-immigration-Latinos-Bhutanese-Asians/stories/201804020011 Basically, in addition to metro Pittsburgh having an atypically low foreign-born population, ...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News

There's gotta be a street-level Chipotle in the works for the north end of Nicollet or Hennepin, right? How long can this market be ignored. I can't imagine it would get less business than the one at Nicollet & 11th...

Re: Midtown Corridor Rail & Lake Street aBRT (B Line)

Anyways, for more evidence as to why I don't think tracks can be linked on the west end (even for out-of-service trains), it would be instructive to scroll through this presentation: https://metrocouncil.org/Transportation/Projects/Current-Projects/Southwest-LRT/Publications-And-Resources/Committee-...

Re: Midtown Corridor Rail & Lake Street aBRT (B Line)

Yeah that Oreos&Milk post is pretty obviously ill-informed and wrong. The rest of us have all read the Midtown AA study from 2013, which clearly includes stations at Hennepin, Lyndale, Nicollet, 5th, Chicago, and Bloomington Ave. The entire route was estimated at 13 minutes from West Lake to Hi-Lake...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map

It's under Anything Goes: https://forum.streets.mn/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1841 Has anyone updated the Google Map at the top of this thread? Do we care about that anymore or was that more of a 2012-2014 thing? Is it so out of date it's not worth the time? The pace of downtown development was significant...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News

There are plenty of affordable food options around Downtown Minneapolis. They're just not greasy national burger chains. That's ok. From 9am-3pm tho. Aside from the Potbelly in IDS and Chipotle on Nicollet & 11th, basically none are open after work hours or on weekends. The only places to eat after...

Safe to assume Opus is not planning any additional development on a portion of the parking lot at this time? It would seem a no brainer to put an apartment building on the south end of the site. Here's what the property lines look like: https://gis.hennepin.us/property/map/default.aspx?pid=290292432...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News

Pretty disingenuous to make that map of "the biggest and cheapest fast food chains" and not include Subway, which has 6+ locations downtown. Agreed. Not including Subway, Jimmy John's, etc. on the map is dishonest. Subway has more US locations than McDonalds, so does Starbucks (McD's is #3 now). Sp...

See SWLRT platform plan here: https://metrocouncil.org/getdoc/985dda48-2db6-4e55-82c4-6ab861881de2/Image.aspx To enter the tunnel that will begin just northeast of the Lake St bridge, SWLRT tracks will begin dropping below grade immediately east of the West Lake Station platform. That grade differen...

Re: E Line Arterial BRT

It’s bonkers that Linden Hills has no limited stop or express service to downtown, considering the lengthy trip time on the 6 today. There is the 146, but that’s way down on 50th St, well outside of walking range from Linden Hills ‘Village’. The lack of highways in this part of the city, combined wi...

Re: Pittsburgh

Yeah that 95,000 must be the metro area drop since 2000, or a typo entirely. Still, Pittsburgh proper has lost 32,000 people between 2000 and 2017. Most of that was 2000-2010, but the population has continued to shrink, losing a couple thousand in 2010-2017. What makes this super odd is the Pittsbur...

Re: Midtown Corridor Rail & Lake Street aBRT (B Line)

A few things folks. 1. this thread exists. Let's try to keep train talk here and not in the Midtown Greenway thread, which is primarily focused on the existing trail and potential extension over the river (Short Line Bridge) to St. Paul. I moved the last couple of pages of posts accordingly. 2. Metr...

Re: Midtown Greenway

The project needs a champion at the City, but more importantly it needs one on the County Board. This project probably won't happen without a County Commissioner actively pushing for it. The County holds the transit funding purse strings AND owns the Greenway ROW. With Southwest heading towards cons...

Re: Mortenson / USBank site - 333 Hennepin Ave E (290' - 26 stories)

This building is very visible coming up 4th Street from Dinkytown. The bend in the grid at Central/Hennepin makes it more of a 45 degree view instead of head-on, which is even more awesome.

Re: E Line Arterial BRT

Route 6’s many branches on the south end present a challenge that no previous aBRT has had to face. You want to pick an E Line route that doesn’t duplicate the remaining branches of the reduced local route 6 too much. It’s as much a question of where the E Line goes as which local branches remain. I...
