Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News

Quoting a post from the TC National & Global image topic...my response got long-winded & OT, so I'm posting here instead... I think that just means we don't have a lot of traditional touristy stuff like historical sites, entertainment districts, really famous museums, amusement parks, etc. After all...

You think they’ll take this opportunity to remove the gimmicky door handle shaped like Zimmern’s glasses?

Re: Wells Fargo Redevelopment - 801 Portland - 16 stories - 180'

The implication is they might not want to lose their nonconforming use. In the future, they won't propose building a tower next to a new branch if it means a location that currently has a drive thru would lose it in the new building. Exactly. My fear is that the drive-thru ban will inadvertently pr...

Would this 8-story building fill the remainder of the block then? Or will a pad site remain for one more building?

Re: Wells Fargo Redevelopment - 801 Portland - 16 stories - 180'

BizJournals confirms it . (unlocked) Note that, like Rafter on the other side of the river, they've got to get the new WF branch built and opened before starting the tower, so that doesn't start until next spring. How do we think the ban on new drive-thru buildings would affect future projects like...

Re: Nicollet 301 - 20 stories - ~200'(?)

Plans from CoW: http://minneapolismn.gov/www/groups/public/@cped/documents/webcontent/wcmsp-219353.pdf Looks nicer than any other Opus building so far. I don't hate it. The single 5,000 sq. ft. restaurant space on Nicollet is not sufficient, especially when considering the Gateway project is barely...

Re: West End / Central Park West Development - St. Louis Park

If retail/restaurant/entertainment continues to struggle here, I'd expect to see some of that replaced with housing in the future. West End really messed up in putting Punch Bowl Social at the far south end of the retail. Not only is it too far from the theater ( promote synergy! ), they very easily...

Re: Northeast and Southeast Minneapolis - General Topics

That is impressive. The eastern proposal should really pick up those last 3 houses on the block. But OTOH, at 0.7 acres, at there's enough land there do them in a separate project, without it being super awkward. On the bright side (pun intended, wait for it) the way they're planning the massing of ...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map

My thought is keep it as simple and cheap as possible. Tear down the viaducts (and the access ramps to 94), don't make any new freeway connections, and let freeway traffic disperse as it may. If there is a problem area that develops, address it later. On the south end, I'm not sure why everyone thin...

Re: Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board

The changes at Portland are less drastic than what was shown in some of the initial concepts. No homeowners are losing their quasi-private frontage road / parking spaces in front of their homes. I really want to see more drastic changes to the intersections at 28th and 34th Aves. Those double-stopli...

Re: Plymouth – General Topics

What are the chances that Plymouth approves a 100% affordable project of this scale? If it was affordable senior + market rate rentals, or mixed-income rentals, I'd give it a maybe. I suspect there will be tremendous opposition from the public to a large, 100% affordable proposal like this.

How does this distillery proposal jive with the plan to relocate the UMN transitway further north , and re-purposing the current ROW as public street grid (4th St extension)?? Revised plans going to CoW: http://www.minneapolismn.gov/www/groups/public/@cped/documents/webcontent/wcmsp-219100.pdf Page 6 really lays it out how much worse this has gotten since the May 2018 version. -Less building -More surface parking (instead of underground, which they appear to have eliminat...

Re: The Future of CSAH 25

West of Beltline/Ottawa Ave, it is as expected. Tough to do much calming west of that intersection. East of Beltline/Ottawa, this plan is a huge disappointment. They need to do a deeper dive on that entire section, consider using roundabouts at Lynn and Inglewood to "push" traffic up to the Minneton...

I emailed Lander about a month ago and got the following response: For 38th Street Station - You are correct that the project, as approved by the City, has been delayed. As you said it is visionary and also complex. It includes multiple land ownership types, a mix of market rate and affordable housi...
