Re: 2017-18 MN Legislative Session & Budget - Battle for the Senate Majority?

I mentioned this in the 2018 Election thread, but I think another factor at play is that MN has had a Democratic governor and for a couple years had total democratic control. That has not been the case in other swing states like WI, MI, OH, FL, etc. The general energy level for throwing out the GOP ...

Re: Arby’s Island

Put me on team "the current one-way pair configuration actually works really well for the area, but fewer lanes and wider sidewalks and bumpouts and trees would be terrific improvements" That said, I could support relatively minor changes to the geometry at the Lake/Lagoon/Dupont intersection, to ma...

Former legislator Kate Knuth hired as Minneapolis' chief resilience officer http://www.startribune.com/former-state-legislator-kate-knuth-hired-as-minneapolis-chief-resilience-officer/429460473/ I've known Kate almost my entire life. She's great and I was sad that she decided to quit politics so qu...

Re: Woman's Club of Minneapolis Parking Lot (344-410 Oak Grove)

You mean it's weird that it isn't the Women's Club of Minneapolis?

That does seem weird. The male version would for sure be called a Men's Club and not a Man's Club.

Re: US Congress and MN House Elections 2018

Rukavina Time! Nah, he turns 68 this year. I'd guess he'll end his political career right where he is now, as a St. Louis County Commissioner. Would his successor in the legislature, Jason Metsa, get any traction in this race? This is going to be a tough race for the DFL...even this year. Pete Stau...

Re: US Congress and MN House Elections 2018

Former mnleg rising star Carly Melin seemed like she was being groomed for this until she chose not to run for re-election in 2016. Don Ness and current Duluth Mayor Emily Larson would both be very strong contenders, if interested. It’d be surprising if Tom Bakk didn’t take a crack at it, right?

Re: Alatus Residential Project - 228 South 12th Street (31 stories - 307'/415')

I guess my biggest question is would there be a renovation to Hotel Ivy? I mean, there's a giant blank wall on the Southern side because the plan was that a building would someday arise like this one. Now that there is a building, it won't even cover that wall. To be clear, Ivy has a blank wall bec...

Re: Minnesota Governor Election 2018

Results are still coming in, but it’s looking like Walz with >30%, Otto >20%, and Murphy at 13%, with “uncommitted” in 4th place, ahead of Coleman by a hair. https://www.dfl.org/caucusreporting/ This should all be taken with a grain of salt - remember that Rybak came in 1st in 2010, barely ahead of ...

Re: Minnesota Governor Election 2018

I’m curious how Tpaw runs against Jeff Johnson... to the center? to the right? “We’re basically the same guy but I have more name recognition and $, therefore I might actually win”? What is his pitch to GOP primary voters? P.S. is anyone caucusing for a candidate other than Walz tonight? Walz has a ...

Re: Arby’s Island

I did take some pleasure in that some folks were like “let’s preserve the sign, haha jk”, other folks were like “no let’s seriously preserve the sign” and Arby’s took it down immediately before anyone could take that idea too seriously. There’s no way Arby’s corporate would even allow a sign to rema...

Re: Minnesota Governor Election 2018

Is it just me, or would Tim Pawlenty will have a terrible time in the general election if he wins that primary? Is he even that fondly remembered among Minnesota conservatives? Reminding folks how he left the state with a budget deficit would be an easy attack.

Neighbors, like, residents of the building?
I remember seeing that space listed for sale, so I'll bet it's a condo within that building (1200 on the Mall) and is subject to the terms set by the condo association board.

Re: Minnesota Governor Election 2018

At first my top two was Walz-Murphy, now is maybe Walz-Otto ?? I still like Murphy, then Coleman, with Thissen and Liebling pulling up the rear. Note that my list also lines up pretty closely with electability. In a vacuum, Chris Coleman is probably a stronger choice than he appears in my rank. But ...

Hmmm... looks like the building owner opted not to renew the lease with VS after 10 years, rather than VS closing by choice. They must think they can land an even bigger fish. On the subject of landing bigger fish, what the hell is up with the Suburban Theater? Are they ever going to find a tenant? ...

Re: Minnesota Governor Election 2018

Um, it could be that Minnesota has been under Democratic control for 8 years (including a couple years of total control), whereas the vast majority of swing states have been under Republican control since 2010 or longer (including several years of total Republican control). Democrats in Minnesota ha...

I swear if this is like a 3-4 story building I'm gonna be so pissed they didn't just incorporate that into the parking ramp project adjacent to their current building.
