Re: Apartment Construction Boom (2011-??)

Is anyone aware of any recent 2 or 3 story projects, either urban or suburban? It can be mixed-use or just residential. I'm not thinking of the single-lot "turkeyplex" type projects, but actual apartment/condo buildings of >10 units. Also not thinking of the recent "rental townhome/rowhome" units th...

Re: Suburbs - General Topics

Whoa. That's an impressive and surprising proposal for this location. It would be less surprising if it was on a major street like Century Ave or White Bear Ave. Bellaire is like a minor collector street, with minimal traffic as it does not cross 694. Hope this proposal goes through. I'm guessing it...

Re: 54th & Riverview Road Development

Those look nice. Good to fill in that weird stretch of a remote, forgotten area of the city. Y'know what would be great is if someone could convince the VA to build more structured parking tight to the building, or even better, along Crosstown, freeing up all that surface parking for development. Ex...

Re: Suburban Malls and Associated Retail News

Momentarily perhaps, but I’d guess the Southdale space gets filled before most of the others. There’s gotta some type of large-format store that’s salivating at a shot at Edina. Southdale location is probably the only one in the metro that could wind up with something better than Herberger’s. Most w...

Re: Hennepin Avenue Reconstruction / E Line (Uptown to Downtown)

Let’s try to keep this topic limited to the portion of Hennepin being reconstructed (and the E Line stations that will be built as part of the project). Was there something at the meeting confirming that the E Line plan was identical to the 2012 ATCS study? Or are y’all just assuming so? The E Line ...

Re: The Link at Prospect Park - 2929 University Ave SE

At least where I work, the head building official assigns addresses and communicates that with the post office. I'd assume the developer or Fresh Thyme simply didn't request a University Ave address; which I agree, that seems like an odd oversight

So who went to the open house last night, what did you see, etc? Where are the aBRT stops? How many lanes, any transit priority? Here's the City's project page: http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/cip/future/HennepinSouth Flyer for last night's meeting: http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/www/groups/public/...

Re: O'Gara's Development - 164 Snelling Ave N

Anyone know if there's something brewing across the street from here? A friend just moved out of a triplex on the south side of Hague (facing the O'Garas parking lot). Owners told her that they were selling and that it would be torn down. She was in the 2nd house in from Park Liquors, so maybe it's ...

Re: D Line - Fremont/Emerson/Chicago Rapid Bus

The proposed changes in Richfield (adding a station at 70th, while curtailing the reduced 5 service at 66th Street) are really smart. The 5 was not going to continue all the way to MOA anyways, it was going to stop at Portland/American. It makes a lot of sense to just end it at 66th, as the ridershi...

Re: Downtown Post Office

Whatever someone wants to propose and build I guess. I don't see the point in saving that annex building at all, when the main post office building is staying. It's going to be hard enough to find good uses for the larger building. I don't see how the annex could be re-used as anything other than of...

And two of the remaining anchors are Macy's and J.C. Penney. Maybe this wasn't a good time for an expansion. Me, a little over a year ago, in the "Suburban Malls" thread: The more I think about it, Rosedale adding another anchor space for Von Maur seems like really short-term thinking. I give it le...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market

Right, but that’s for a cab ride only. If you think it through, that would mean a long cab ride home, then getting in a personal vehicle (assuming your family has one available) and then possibly heading in another direction to the kid’s school. No one is taking the cab right to the kid's school and...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market

That’s a smart move for any large downtown employer that wants to get more employees on transit. “Ability to leave mid-day to pick up a sick kid” is definitely high on the list of reasons people give for not taking the bus. It wouldn’t be a bad idea for Metro Transit / Move Minneapolis to think abou...

Re: Apartment Construction Boom (2011-??)

I think it speaks volumes to that when you elect a pro-growth council and Mayor (both Hodges & Frey), the ever-present anti-development folks on E-democracy & neighborhood boards are mostly rendered powerless. They whine just as hard, but generally to no effect.

The 2-story annex building at the foot of the 3rd Ave Bridge is protected? Meh, I could live without it if the main building is preserved

Re: Apartment Construction Boom (2011-??)

Someone should put together a list of projects that have been cancelled or replaced with substantially smaller projects (e.g. Nye’s tower). I think the list would be shorter than most would expect. Almost everything proposed in this current boom has gotten built, despite the typical urbanist/YIMBY r...
