Re: Bike Share

I'd be fine with banning electric / electric-assist vehicles (bicycles, scooters, etc.) from sidewalks, citywide. Wheelchairs exempted of course.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News

Too bad the middle chunk of Washington from about Hennepin to 5th Ave was completely wiped of its original small scale fabric that supports this kind of retail. Oh well, we're going in the right direction. Tear. Down. The Gateway. Again. But more realistically, every single building along Washingto...

Re: Mall of America - Bloomington

Makes perfect sense to me. People would probably buy groceries at the mall too if given the option. A mini Trader Joes in the mall would make an absolute killing on TJ-branded snacks, booze, etc.

Re: Oaks Union Depot - 244 4th Street E

This appears to be a full 7 stories. Are the upper two stories just 2-story loft units? We've seen projects with a 2-story concrete base, so 5 stories of wood over 1+mezzanine of concrete (Walkway Uptown, etc). We've also seen 5+1 projects where the top floor is extra tall and appears to be a partia...

Re: Thrivent Smith Lot - 5th Ave and 7th St - Micro Apartments and Diner

On a 1/4 lot development downtown, I thought for sure we'd see more than 6 stories here. But yeah getting 190 units in a stick building has got to be hard/impossible to beat from a financial POV. I'd wager this one stands little chance of being "upgraded" to 16-17 stories like the K-A/Wells Fargo si...

Re: 800 Washington Ave S (Guthrie Ramp liner development: Reloaded)

Sherman's proposal is 10 stories, 112 units (including 20% affordable), 16k sf office space, as well as the Pinstripes (very similar to their last proposal). It looks just like the previous proposal too, although that one was hotel. The AECOM proposal is probably the best looking. 8 stories of for-s...

Re: Blue Line (Hiawatha LRT)

Last night at the Mpls2040 meeting, fishmanpet pointed out how much Interior 1/2 is planned immediately to the west of Blue Line LRT stations. It seems crazy to have Interior 1/2 designations within three or four blocks of stations such as 38th, 46th, and 50th. Go to minneapolis2040.com and comment...

Re: Hiawatha-Minnehaha Ave Development & RR Corridor/Grain Elevators

I noticed that too. On the Land Use map, on Minnehaha Ave, only the Greg's Auto and DQ sites are designated 'mixed use', whereas everything else is 'urban neighborhood'. The built form map has the whole block as Corridor 4, except for the first couple of lots in from 46th St, which are 'Corridor 6'....

4737 Minnehaha Ave - Lander Development

Greg's Auto repair at 4737 Minnehaha (Minnehaha & Nawadaha, across from the falls) has been sold....apparently to Lander Group, based on Hennepin County Property info. Lander paid $500k for it. The Nextdoor post from which I gleaned this information also suggested that he purchased an adjacent house...

Re: The Central - 3501 Second Ave. S

Renting at around $2.20 - $2.30 a square foot. If they lease this up quickly, I’d bet we’ll see more projects like this on Stevens & 2nd (each side of 35W) where it’s a little cheaper to acquire houses (which tend to be in a little tougher shape than average). I don’t think this project would exist...

Re: Minnesota Governor Election 2018

I don't have a strong preference in Walz vs. Murphy, but I think Walz backers tend to overestimate the importance of his appeal outstate. If he does better than Dayton outstate but can't drive big turnout in the metro, he'll lose a close election. The theory of the Murphy-Maye Quade ticket (Erin^2?...

Re: Arby’s Island

FYI all: 4,000 sq ft of commercial space isn't much. That's likely just two small storefronts, or one larger restaurant space. The Walkway building has around 12,000 sq ft, all along Girard Ave. FrankLyn has 8,000 sq ft (one large restaurant and one small retail). Sons of Norway has 7,000 sq ft of c...

Re: Minnesota Governor Election 2018

Yes, that too!! Maye Quade won a swing seat by a pretty thin margin in '16. Better hope the people of Apple Valley are still fired up to vote DFL in a non-Presidential year (when turnout is down), AND that the DFL candidate is, y'know, good. It just doesn't add up. Picking someone from the metro, wi...

Re: Arby’s Island

Boy, something twice as tall (and with a bit more breathing room at the street level) would have fit really nicely here. I'm glad to see it developed, obviously, but I think we all would have been shocked if it had been anything less than 6-story stick. That was the bare minimum level expectation he...

I was fully ready to support Murphy following the unexpected endorsement. Her choice of Erin Maye Quade as running mate immediately pushed me toward supporting Walz, how...
