Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)

Northtown Mall wants to move the transit center to the south parking lot so that the land can be developed. The neighborhood adjacent (which is in Spring Lake Park) to the new transit center isn't happy. https://www.hometownsource.com/abc_newspapers/news/government/spring-lake-park-opposes-proposed-...

Re: E Line Arterial BRT

Good to see this project progressing. Hopefully bus lanes become part of the project. Bus lanes between Prospect Park and Hennepin/Lake seem like they would be totally feasible. I think it would be nice if they replaced the 6 south of Southdale with the 515. It's more frequent, and would allow the r...

Re: Suburban Transit (Opt-out Services Providers)

Southwest Transit is making some route changes soon: The Flex Service (600, 602, and Normandale Shuttle) routes will become regular routes. SW Transit will offer a free transfer to SW Prime from the park and ride lots (SW Station, SW Village, East Creek) as a replacement. The 600 reverse commute rou...

The Metro Transit rider alert says that the WB 21/53 will follow Lake to 4th to 28th to Blaisdell back to Lake. Buses will stop at 4th-5th/Lake, Nicollet/28th, and Grand/Lake.

You probably need to do a FOIA request. AFAIK, route and stop level data is put together annually.

Re: Uptown Retail & Restaurant News

Who's gonna pay for downtown parking to go shop at the same stores that are at MOA? Apple stores are really about product exposure rather than sales. Tons of people walk around MOA all day and check out the new products. Maybe they buy, but really they probably think it over and buy online or throug...

Re: Eagan, Apple Valley, Burnsville - General Topics

I think it may have been the policy of 50% SFH, 50% other housing types. The removal of the policy a few years ago allowed for the development of the giant apartment building near 35/42. I don't know if I would call it "skewed". Big apartment complexes are the norm in the suburbs, and the housing st...

Re: Eagan, Apple Valley, Burnsville - General Topics

I believe there was a policy in place that limited apartments to 50% of housing units in Burnsville. This was removed, allowing developers to build apartments again.

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)

Indeed. I understand the labor issue (it's a problem facing many industries across the country currently), but there seems to be a lack of effort to rebuild bus schedules to be consistent or re-allocate money/hours from split shifts to increasing off-peak service. I would imagine that the part-time ...

Re: Bottineau LRT (Blue Line Extension)

While it does skirt North Minneapolis, the Humboldt stop is adjacent to one of two family-orientated public housing developments in the city.

The unfortunate thing is that the county went full-steam on rebuilding Bottineau, with the anticipation that the light rail would go in the rail corridor.

The design on Penn Ave is also like this. I've seen this stop design implemented in Seattle along their Rapid Ride lines as well.

Re: West End / Central Park West Development - St. Louis Park

Street-fronting retail works on thru streets (Hennepin, Grand, 50/France) because there is traffic that creates chance activity beyond those that are destined for those areas. West End has no thru traffic, it is more similar to mall in that the only people that go there are those that want to. Embra...

Re: West End / Central Park West Development - St. Louis Park

I think one of the biggest downfalls of the site is allowing driving along the main shopping street. This should have been a pedestrian street, especially since there is so much underground and ramp parking. The big miss on this project was separating the uses on the site. The hotels and offices sho...

Re: Midtown Corridor Rail & Lake Street aBRT (B Line)

As for previous ridership, the Blue Line didn't have any direct predecessors, but reorientated the bus network to feed the light rail line instead of being so downtown focused. The Green Line replaced the 16 and 50 bus lines, which I believe had a combined ridership of ~18k per day. The best option ...

B Line meeting presentation posted: https://www.metrotransit.org/Data/Sites ... educed.pdf

Interesting is the mention of having more stops (compared to the A, C, D lines) on the B and E lines and eliminating the local bus service underneath.

Re: A Line - Arterial Rapid Bus

I think the idea is that local stops are good for high school serving routes or trips, because the longer-distance demand is minimal.

High schools by themselves shouldn't be a big driver of arterial BRT. The demand really only exists at a very specific time in the day.
