Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar

The next step of the project will consider the technical feasibility of using the CP Spur, which IMO would allow for TOD on both sides of the line between Victoria Park and Sibley Plaza.

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar

A 10 year planning period is really a long time. 10 years from beginning of AA to opening is much more reasonable, and really should be considered a maximum. Really all that is left at this point is performing engineering and design work in the corridor and aquiring any needed properties. That reall...

Re: Nicollet-Central Streetcar

I believe that there was some sort of purchase agreement for the first floor in the Gateway Ramp, which already functions as a bus layover. The hotel site was at one time programmed for an underground bus terminal a la Leamington Ramp. Express routes would terminate at the underground terminals and ...

Re: Tunnels!

The $1 billion doesn't seem like that much of a stretch as the tunnels will be quite small (the vehicles are basically van sized) and there are no stations. The downtown station will be in an existing cavern under a shopping mall. Compounding the economics issue is the fact that this isn't even tryi...

Re: Orange Line (35W BRT) & Lake St Transit Access Project

MVTA is starting a #416 which will run express from Eagan Transit Station to 46th St Blue Line. I wonder how many will switch over from the #470 express. With the transit only entrance and exit at 31st and the bus lanes, I really don't see traffic being an issue. I would imagine a lot of drivers are...

Re: U.S. Highway 169

I'd like to add that there's obviously some level of service that is warranted in this corridor, I'm unsure that it is BRT-level. Then when BRT as a term gets tossed around, suddenly it's 15-minute frequency or nothing. This is what happened with the Red Line, promises were made for some standards t...

Re: U.S. Highway 169

It seems that the Hwy 169 Mobility (MnPass/BRT) study is coming to a close. The report and a number of "tech memos" are posted on the Golden Valley website (strange that they aren't on MnDot's or Met Council's), but some of them appear to be drafts rather than finals. Available here: http://www.gold...

Re: Suburban Malls and Associated Retail News

Brookdale Sears is the latest to close (leaving Ridgedale, MOA, and St Paul). It looks like only 63 of the up to 100 stores that are closing nationwide are announced, so there could be 37 more announced soon. https://bringmethenews.com/minnesota-news/2-sears-stores-1-kmart-to-close-in-minnesota-out-...

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings

The 61 currently does not run on Sundays and there aren't any changes to the routing at this time.

The only mention of the curtailing of the 61 was in the 2011-12 rapid bus study.

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings

Fare question: I've become a little unfamiliar with the Metro Transit fare system now that I've moved away. I'm visiting soon, and noticed that there is a fare option for a "weekend pass" for $4, but it is listed under the Mobile Ticket section of the fare page. I was wondering if anyone knew if thi...

Re: Metro Transit Service Improvement Plan 2014

Yes, the 51 and 52 are basically the D Line. I'm somewhat mystified by their inclusion (partially by the failure of the 53 service on Lake St and the limited success of the 59 line Central), but I believe that Metro Transit was pursuing updates to the SIP and not a reimagining. I hope that we can ge...

Re: Metro Transit Service Improvement Plan 2014

Metro Transit updated the SIP in 2017 and has uploaded the latest version recently. The updates are minor, mostly removing services already implemented and modifying transitway-related proposals based on those planning efforts. Also implementation dates have been modified. The routes that have recei...
