Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings

I've noticed that at other games at the Metrodome, Metro Transit has run express buses from 28th Ave to the stadium. Also, I'm surprised that the trains have to stop at each station, but not open the doors. In Chicago, CTA will run express (when late) and slightly reduce speed when going through sta...

Due to construction on 8th St in downtown in 2019, the C Line will run on 6th until 8th St is completed.
I take it that the other buses on 8th St (5, 9, 19, 22) will also be rerouted to 6th St during construction?

Re: Nicollet Mall Reconstruction Project

Thanks for the pictures. I was wondering how it would turn out. I haven't been in Minneapolis for a few months, and it was pretty much a linear dirt mound at that time.

It's reaaaaaaly grey. I hope it is more colorful when finished.

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings

Per the latest SW Transit board packet, the Blue Flex route will be canceled and Optum will likely be added to the Red route schedule:

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings

I noticed that Metro Transit now posts rider alerts for when specific trips are canceled? I wonder if this is just general things like a brokedown bus, or if it is a larger issue, such as an operator shortage?

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

I like the idea also, but I think realistically it won't be changed as it will confuse riders. I think they should consider ditching the color scheme and adopt simple numbers (1,2,3,4,etc.) for the LRT and BRT lines. I was looking at some of the materials, and it seems that they are only considering...

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

That makes more sense. I'm not aware of any multi-mode projects that have been FTA funded. I suppose a busway connecting Ford Site to W 7th could be funded locally, but the local streets themselves aren't very busy and could probably handle some bus improvements. Similar, but somewhat different prob...

Boston's Green Line Extension is branched and is an FTA project.

Re: Midtown Greenway

Buying up two miles of industry (and presumably firing all the workers) is pretty much the most illogical way to get a bike path extended.

Re: C Line - Arterial Rapid Bus & Penn Ave Community Works Project

I would imagine that the BRT painted artic is the same one from the Fair. They had one running on the suburban express buses. It had a 344x number IIRC.

Re: Blue Line (Hiawatha LRT)

There are a number of homeless who ride the Green Line all night, and the #16 before. I think there's somewhat of an unofficial policy to just let them be during the overnight hours. MOA recently forced MT to close the transit center at night because they didn't want homeless sleeping there. There's...

Re: Twin Cities Future Transit Map

IMO Gold line and Purple line are wasting money in areas where transit priority isnt needed. Those lines are at least radial and connect a major destination on one end. 2 and 21 are successful because they connect commerical corridors and have high density housing. 30, 32, 46 all connect lower densi...

Re: Twin Cities Future Transit Map

The north to northeast bus lines are all low demand and are pretty much "express" in the fact that most stops don't have people getting on or off.

Re: Cheap groceries and walkability

The Uptown Cub is a logistical nightmare because they can only load from the alley. The storage space is very small, so they have daily deliveries. Other Cub stores get deliveries once or twice a week. I think the only reason the Uptown location works is the high volume it does.

The Shakopee downtown is a total dead zone with a couple blocks of minor retail in the historic buildings, some senior housing, the county building. The grid residential area is pretty low density as well. I can't fathom why the city would have any opposition to downtown development while they let t...

I've never heard about the Brown Line issue in Chicago, but Atlanta changed the Yellow Line to the Gold Line because of complaints from the Asian community.
