Re: Northrop Auditorium Renovation
The interior offices and band space was hideous as well, very bad condition inside the building. I was in band at about the latest time we were housed in Northrop (missed TCF by just a couple years...). I wouldn't say it was hideous inside by any stretch. It was a music library, instrument repair a...

Re: Vikings Stadium
I find the suggestion that any development would have happened if the city hadn't discouraged it completely ludicrous. But I remain persuadable. I just want to see a contemporaneous source (from the decade or two after the Metrodome was built)saying this was city policy. I don't think the city was ...

Re: Loring Park Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)
Agree with mattaudio on that one.. The only bad thing about plazas up like that is it effectively removes it from part of the public realm - the space is solely used by the residents of the tower. That's fine if the street-front is good space and the city does its part in providing ample park space ...

Re: Washington Avenue
I'll grant you that most of these are Stroads, and also mostly not in Minneapolis. Well, by my count, University, Olsen, 7, and Excelsior all pass through Minneapolis (even though I stated in my post Twin Cities): http://goo.gl/maps/1zTWR A Stroad, as defined by the guy that made the word up in the...

Re: Washington Avenue
I'd say any one-way couplings count (of which there are MANY). Any street that has been widened, had lanes added, parking removed, has access points (like, more than one or 2) between cross-streets, has cars traveling faster than 25-30 mph, horrible pedestrian access to cross or even to walk on one ...

Re: Vikings Stadium
Not sure how you would blame Zygi himself as he got here 25 years after it was built, but maybe you mean blame him for keeping it in Minneapolis which wouldnt really belong at his doorstep either (ahem... arden hills)... The idea of creating a bar district around the area sounds great.... but it is...

Re: 2316-2320 Colfax Apartments
I think RailBaron's point isn't that we shouldn't have neighborhood meetings and/or democracy, but that we shouldn't have to go through all of this hand-wringing, time-wasting bullshit for every single development proposal in the city. Especially not for really good proposals like this that aren't ...

Is there any way to get them to keep the materials? At least the exterior...I can't believe that entire building will end up in a land fill.

Re: Oaks Station Place
I don't care what others think - I like the design. Something a bit different from the "modern" square blocks popping up all over. Fits the more "historic" feel of the Minnehaha neighborhood as well. May not be the highest quality materials, but still like. I agree. Variety is g...

Re: 2316-2320 Colfax Apartments
Great design and this will fit right in with the neighborhood. I wish someone had the balls to say that at the LHENA meeting. Oh, the reactions would've been priceless! There was a guy at the last meeting who said he "felt like [he] landed on mars" because those two houses would be torn d...

Re: The Bridges - (950 University Avenue SE)
I think it would look great, but having those two streets 2-ways would be horrible for traffic. Traffic on those roads is a nightmare the way it is if any event is going on at the U. I disagree.. It's bad where people are exiting ramps/lots, but over by the freeway it's actually not so bad. Just at...

Re: 2316-2320 Colfax Apartments
Thing I love most about it: all those first floor apartments facing Colfax have steps and a tiny patio to them. Makes for a much better streetscape than a wall with windows. Also, how cool is it that the third floor gets a little patio/deck on the roof of the second floor? More buildings need to use...

Re: The Bridges - (950 University Avenue SE)
How cool would it be if 2 things happened: 1) Change University and 4th to both mutli-way streets - reducing (car) speed throughout the whole area. 2) Make a small land-bridge between University and 4th crossing 35W and give air rights to developers. This would be a quick/easy/relatively cheap land ...

Re: 301 Walnut (Sally's Building)
Is Sally's any more of a frat magnet than Library or Blarney? I wasn't aware of a dress code?I've been boycotting Sally's for four years, because of their (racist) dress code.
I'll be drinking champagne the day the wrecking ball hits that smelly frat-boy magnet...

Re: 301 Walnut (Sally's Building)
Very cool. I think in the main U of M project thread I brought this lot up as a big potential given its location. I'll nitpick and say this style of architecture is wearing on me.. lots of it in Uptown and UofM already 0 corrugated metal with funky accent color(s). It's fine that there's a generatio...

I REALLY love stuff like this, I'm really excited! I also loved the pics they used to illustrate how it'll fit into the surrounding area -- there were shots that I've never seen before that really shows the scale of how urbanized this area is getting!! Definitely agree. While Nick points out the sl...

"Let's deliberately make it more difficult for people to get to the location that they want to go to so they won't drive there as much." I guess I have to salute that line of thinking for its intellectual honesty, but otherwise it doesn't impress me much. I hate the state of retailing in ...

Re: General Suburb News
Maybe they could ease everyone's concerns and surround the parking ramp with condos/apartments, like those ramps near the Guthrie downtown? That seems like a good compromise that keeps the integrity of the area intact and is also completely feasible (money-wise). Would totally be behind that. I gua...

Re: General Suburb News
I tend to agree with you, but Edina has to be realistic: 50th & France, for all its successes, will never be a place most of its clientelle walk to. At least, there isn't enough of a population within walking distance to support the high-end stores that exist there now. There HAS to be parking,...
