Re: Latest Census Estimates and Met Council Projections
So Outstate MN GAINED nearly 10K residents, while the metro area barely added 20K? What an odd twist! Unless that 10K gain was all within the CSA but outside the MSA. I'm disappointed to see growth slow when it was already a bit sluggish compared to our 90's and early 00's average, which was closer ...

Re: Wooddale Station Area / PLACE Proposal - St. Louis Park
Some very dramatic responses from the citizens, as usual: "Traffic is a nightmare" -- that was true last year when Hwy. 7 was shut down and Wooddale Ave was the last exist off of the highway before the closure, and there were lines backed up for a mile at times. Also, when a choo-choo trai...

Re: Zoning in Minneapolis
Is there such a thing as "zoning reform" that's fairly easy/painless to implement (i.e. does not require a ton of resident approvals)?

It'd be awesome if they could incorporate the old corner structure. Is that even plausible (physically, as well as financially)?

Re: Southdale Area Development - Edina
I would love to see a developer take on the Goodyear site (and perhaps 4 or 6 SFHs behind it) one block to the east. Will the Edina-Richfield city boundary be too great of a mental barrier for developers & lenders to get over? (even though most recent Southdale area developments are in Richfiel...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)
I'd personally be shocked if ridership was meager on this route....there's SO many big businesses and destinations connected along this corridor (UHG, Cargill, Eden Prairie's "Golden Triangle", Eden Prairie Center Mall, Uptown/Lake Calhoun, Downtown Hopkins, and Downtown Mpls/Target Field)...

Re: Twin Cities' National and Global Image
Possibly true for some, though "suburb" doesn't necessarily equal "big house". I live in a 1000 sq. ft. townhouse without its own yard, for example. My utility costs are very low, and some of what I pay in association dues goes towards common area maintenance, but I don't have t...

Re: Twin Cities' National and Global Image
Well and it's not just commuting costs that could be a factor, but also: time (hard to put a price on free time, but it's at least as valuable as your effective hourly wage rate), utility costs (higher with more SF), home/yard maintenance costs, taxes (could be higher if more services are spread amo...

I thought the only thing keeping the Feds from their match was a lack of funding on our end. Assuming that funding issue gets resolved (and I thought they had some kind of plan/backup plan), then the match would still be made.

I'm confused....in the picture showing where the project is going in the BizJournals, it looks like two separate "C"-shaped buildings, each facing a different direction.

I understand preserving the areas closest to the lakes to be zoned smaller, but this is one area where I don't feel that's as necessary (another is on the north end of Lake Calhoun).

Did anyone hear how he died? I mean I heard complications from a surgery, but I didn't hear specifically what had occurred (i.e. infection, etc.).
