Re: MSP to Rochester High Speed Rail

^Great point. Critically, this would also abrogate one of the key detractor talking points (that it doesn't benefit those most affected by the train).

Re: Rochester

Mayo is the institutional leader of Rochester. That town has laughable parking "problems" as it is but somehow thinks that building even more parking will somehow solve their congestion. If the clinic doesn't take a forward-thinking approach, no one in that town will. With a highly dense cluster of ...

Re: MSP to Rochester High Speed Rail

I honestly think connecting Northstar to St. Cloud as a commuter line would be a better example to show, but looks like NLE is closer to actually happening.

Re: O'Gara's Development - 164 Snelling Ave N

Hamline fully opened back up this a.m.

St. Paul needs another bridge or two over the Short Line tracks IMO. Have more, but lower capacity grid connections over the unfortunately-placed tracks. Too much pressure on the N-S arterials IMO. The biggest need might be bike infra that goes N-S.

That's what I'm telling you. Yes, they are unusual and different since the construction has been going on. Perhaps they're normal, but they're not usual. Not the same thing. And I repeat, it's the promised timeframe I have issue with, not the construction itself.

Re: O'Gara's Development - 164 Snelling Ave N

Poor planning with Fairview closed, Hamline down a lane, and Lexington still having work finalized. And yet, life goes on. Life does go on, but do you see the spillover effects first hand? I do. Cut through traffic has significantly increased in the adjacent, non-calmed grid streets. I've nearly be...

Re: O'Gara's Development - 164 Snelling Ave N

Most of the windows are in and the facade masonry is coming along now. My question really is how was the original estimate of Snelling being back open in July so far off? Still down to one lane here. Poor planning with Fairview closed, Hamline down a lane, and Lexington still having work finalized.

As much as I love Aldi, now we're going to be stuck with this mid-century, suburban style development for decades longer.

I'm pretty sure I've inadvertently driven across entire farms in the winter thinking I was still on 52. It's a winter deathtrap.

I'm not surprised they found a way to add condos with Alia dying, but I'm a little surprised it came at the expense of hotel rooms.

Re: Seven Corners Gateway Site / Radisson Red

^ Just market limitations. Whether it's the speeding highway-like traffic on all sides or the spillover perception of the homeless shelter across the street, there just wasn't the necessary market forces to develop something more ambitious. I'm glad it won't be a surface lot anymore.

Re: Seven Corners Gateway Site / Radisson Red

If it includes decent retail spaces and street presence, I'll take it. That surface lot has been eyesore for too long. Wish they'd reconfigure the street grid in this area to make it more intuitive though. Some free-right turn lanes could come out IMO.

Re: Nicollet 301 - 20 stories - 241'

This would be a pretty nice project on the outskirts of downtown, like Elliot Park. It's just a shame it's being proposed in such a prime location that could support something much more ambitious. Eating up the surface lots at least.

You'll see vagrants right around the Snelling/Univ. crossing, but even those people are pretty harmless. If Target is any indication, things are actually improving in the area and significantly.

Re: Ayd Mill Road

Both ends of AMR are single lane. Traffic only flares out midway due to left turns, etc. Putting in proper turn lanes (or roundabouts) at the intersections may actually lead to better flow than at present.

Re: Carbucks

City of Saint Paul felt it was too risky to avoid exposure to litigation, so they just let Starbucks run roughshod over the city. The engineering/traffic study done beforehand was obviously a farce, and now it won't likely change any time soon. If "we" approve the Carbucks 2.0 then you'll really kno...

Alatus is also proposing that relatively ambitious project at Lexington near University. A lot of major projects. I wouldn't write them off just yet.
