Re: Stillwater Development News

Stillwater is just something else. I think it might have the worst possible combination of natural resources, misdirection, and poor leadership of any city I've seen. Just look how there are parking lots lining the entire riverfront. Almost no benches or park-like features at all! Then, the leadersh...

If you scroll all the way down on the website, it's amusing that they dropped the "pin" way too far south on Snelling.

Website is up with renderings. On second glance, they may have actually reduced the amount of cement board on the facade.

Re: State law: Drivers must stop for crossing pedestrians at marked crosswalks and at all intersections without crosswal

What would happen if a significant police presence were occasionally...present...solely to ticket this infraction? I suspect that would give the law some visibility. I believe St. Paul does this every year at strategic intersections. I know they did at one of the intersections downtown near Rice Pa...

Re: Eleven (Ryan Condo Tower) - 1111 West River Parkway - 48 stories / 550'

While I completely agree with you that 30 is a pitiful number, I will say that I would much rather live at the Eleven's location than the Gateway's. Both good, but Mill District area is truly top-notch for livability. Hm. There's a Trader Joe's now, but the knock on the Mill District for me was alw...

Re: O'Gara's Development - 164 Snelling Ave N

This project is up to about 4-stories now. The apartment building will be named "the Harper." A newer rendering is attached to the jersey barriers, and to my eye it looks like they changed (cheapened?) the exterior finishes a fair bit. Looks like more brick maybe instead of that limestone they had s...

Re: Eleven (Ryan Condo Tower) - 1111 West River Parkway - 48 stories / 550'

It does seem to make UP's decision to only include ~30 condos in the Gateway Tower seem pretty dumb. While I completely agree with you that 30 is a pitiful number, I will say that I would much rather live at the Eleven's location than the Gateway's. I'm referring to dual-income household, so doubling 570k of house puts this in easy reach.

Re: RE: Re: Eleven (Ryan Condo Tower) - 1111 West River Parkway - 48 stories / 550'

Just think of the number of doctors, NPs, PAs, CRNAs and other professions at HCMC and the U of M hospital. That is large number of people, many that may prefer to live close to work. I can guarantee you that NPs and PAs make nowhere near enough to afford these. Maybe a couple both working as NPs a...

Re: Saint Paul - General Topics

Anyone heard rumors about Brasa getting new location in the area? That would be a real blow if they don't land nearby. They did have the world's most awkward surface lot, though, so at least that will go with their old location.

Re: Allianz Field and Snelling-Midway Development

Grade separation at Snelling between train and cars can't come soon enough. I wonder what that would cost, either for underground or elevated station. We should slowly inch our LRT toward full grade separation.

Re: Ayd Mill Road

One additional benefit to doing a major project like this would be that grade-separated bikeways could be added that finally bridge the rail ROW as well, as per the Bike Plan (via Pascal). Connecting to future Greenway extension, this could become a major cycling crossroads. How much, if at all, wou...

Re: Ayd Mill Road

I don't think you'd have to take many houses to make a single-lane-each-way connection. Businesses should be able to relocate. Some collateral damage would occur, certainly. Barring a major sea change in mode share, though, I'd be reasonably in favor of getting the car sewer out of Snelling's prime ...

Re: Ayd Mill Road

Seems obvious to say, but either connect it to I-94 via the frontage roads or cut off the 35E freeway-style entrance. I'm no proponent for it, but connecting this more directly to I-94 would add a badly-needed additional N-S arterial that doesn't use Cretin, Hamline, Snelling, Lex or Dale, which are...

We need to be planning for the next time they spend money on it. It was probably too late in the game to prevent the mill & overlay even two years from now. We need to think big picture for the next phase.

Re: Bicycle design and innovations

The main drawback in the original green bikes was that 1. they were heavy, and thus 2. were geared very short. If they can offset the weight with some e-assist, that's outstanding. Ebikes are great.

Re: City Club Apartments - 1000 Marquette Ave (Handicraft Building)

From my experience, the people who spend the least time indoors in the winter are typically the happiest with our climate. Big houses = isolation and lack of community and togetherness feel IMO.

Isn't this already under construction? The loss of retail is actually a fairly substantial hit to the area if approved.

Just pack a clear bag inside a collapsible bike-friendly bag, then stuff the bike bag inside the clear bag once you're there. Profit!
