Re: Nicollet Ave Apartments.

Wow, it was about time. Crossing 94 from downtown (on foot or bike mainly) has felt like you're entering a wasteland. This should at least help to visually bridge the two sides of the freeway. Retail is a major plus, too.

7 stories of residential? Has that been increased from the last proposal?

Re: Nord Haus - 315 1st Ave NE (208' - 20 Stories)

On the other hand, this has made for a decently varied architecture on the double block, and the driveway that aligns with the grid gives it a more distinguished, city-like feel IMO.

Their sculpture garden (technically at a terminus of a streetcar route) is the best I've seen anywhere. Not to be missed.

Re: 244 4th Street E

I really like this project. It's nicely scaled and placed in a part of town that could use more people out and about. It blends in really nicely, which I think it one reason why it hasn't gotten more fanfare.

They haven't even installed their LED signs yet on 6th. I'm not assuming everything is complete yet.

Re: Hamline Station - (1333 University Avenue)

Pretty shabby station. I like that it's being upgraded, but sure looks like a flagrant violation of the area's plan. Plenty of gas stations in St. Paul.

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure

it’ll be great that there will now be a real connection to the Gateway Trail. Do you mean something beyond getting from downtown to Jackson north of downtown, or is there a grander plan to actually connect Gateway to downtown? It's an abject mess at the moment, by the way. The trail is completely r...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure

Actually, it seems like the connection at Azine Way is newish and pretty well used. It is fairly-well situated for connections to usable street routes. Still, to me, if/when the surface lot next to the Hewing Hotel and the trail gets developed, that would be a good place to construct a direct connec...

Re: 200 Central - Alatus Tower (Washburn-McReavy Site) 483' / 40 Stories

Good on the developer for not simply shelving this project once adversity set in. This outcome will indeed set a tone and precedent for future NIMBYs to consider before dumping their money down a hole. I hope it also spurs other developers to follow suit and continue to densify the downtown area, es...

Re: Pedestrian Safety and Infrastructure Improvements

I believe that the only way a pedestrian can fail to yield to a vehicle at an intersection under MN law is if they are directly crossing against a red light. If I recall correctly, the MN statutes basically agree with you. In other words, it's illegal to cross at an intersection when it says "don't...

Re: Ayd Mill Road

Even during rush hour daily, there's simply no need for the 2x2 configuration. I'd be fine with one lane each way, plus a nice trail next to it for future Greenway hookup. I really hope they don't just mill and overlay what is there now.

If they serve no purpose but to signal to others that it's time to invest in this part of town, then so be it. Anything would be better than what is there now.

Re: O'Gara's Development - 164 Snelling Ave N

The developers did state that they had considered a second curb cut, pass through onto Selby. I actually think the proposed solution is better than having Snelling and Selby entrances, but yes the parking situation isn't great.
