Re: Demolition of West Publishing / old jail

Is that tower on the left one of the original Gateway tower proposals?

I knew this building was originally built to support 40 stories (20 additional), but wow didn't expect this so soon!

Re: Crime

I wonder if they decided they just wanted a more premium location and this was a way to trigger a clause to kill the existing lease? Cynical perhaps, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were some truth to this.

Re: Rochester

About time we heard something for that site. Didn't they boot the tenant on that site several years ago?

Re: Junction Flats - (643 Fifth Street North)

Can someone explain to me why the curb cut radius is so large for a development like this? Especially on a street that is plenty wide to allow for tighter turns into the parking in back? Irks me that we still put these high-speed, easy turn-in curb cuts here in an area that is actually pretty walkab...

Re: The Commons - Downtown East Park

It's a really, genuinely pleasant part of town -- provided you didn't drive there. I actually have to basically agree with the WF employees that they don't really get the benefit of the dense core unless they walk a number of blocks. It's a great park, though, and a bit of programming or services (l...

Looks smaller than I envisioned. I was imagining something more on the scale of Red Rocks.

Re: U.S. Highway 169

I like the creativity at the 394/BC/55 interchange mess. Might be overbuilt a bit, however. There's a lot of commuter traffic from WB 394 to WB 55 via 169, so I do wonder a little about the SPUI capacity at the 55 entrance, but the existing cloverleafs are really overbuilt for the average traffic th...

I'm sure that cost is a major factor. Personally, I love the idea of it being open air.

Re: OX-OP Gallery and Residences.

The city is going to be kicking themselves in 10 years about all of these terrible site plans they approved during this boom. I have to agree on this point, especially. A fine upgrade to this barren surface lot in the NEAR TERM, but a terrible precedent to have to undo/upgrade/work around in the LO...

^ I don't think that a tear-down was ever even considered possible because the Holiday Inn had several floors of condos at the top. For what it is, I think this is a great outcome.

Re: 200 Central - Alatus Tower (Washburn-McReavy Site) 483' / 40 Stories

Off-topic, but I'd argue Stillwater hasn't done a very good job at being quaint and playing to its strengths (natural beauty). They mostly just pave everything and add parking. Anyways, Huzzah!

So it's just the forum users' fantasies then? Anything official beyond someone's Google Maps spitballing? Last I heard it was that U of M cap/land bridge proposal with no funding. Even one extra bridge here would help.

Why isn't there more interest in development in this part of town? Seems ripe for development all around. When I bike through here, I'm always surprised how derelict the city is within such a short distance of the Capitol.

I noticed that 5th (in front of these apartments) was shut down before the Twins game the other day, is that road work or building related?
