Re: Doran/General Mills Development - 215 2nd St SE (284' - 26 Stories)

We're at the stage of this development where the Heritage Preservation Commission would prefer a heritage parking lot to an actual building. http://www.mndaily.com/article/2017/10/heritage-preservation-commission-denies-apartment-pitched-for-marcy-holmes The interesting thing is that the staff repor...

I expect putting a large list up for vote will result in Lake McLake Lakieface.

If voting is opened to Minnesotans outside Minneapolis then Lake Murderapolis has a high chance.
It's Minnesota so Lake Lakeson Anderslake is more likely.

Re: Minnesota Transportation Funding (General)

For better or worse one of the appeals of the sales tax route is that it is collected in very small increments that are barely noticeable, rather than arriving in a big envelope with colored paper and a bill for a large sum. Even if that large sum is then spread across monthly mortgage payments, or ...

Re: 38th Street Corridor & 38th St Station Development

Ideally the courtyard parking is pretty visible to the residents around the courtyard, so there are eyes on the place even if not from the street, but from the buildings. Lighting etc makes a big difference, as well as multiple ways in and out. Benefits to the public realm of not having big parking ...

Re: MSP Airport

No, UA either has the E175s which run 2 a day in winter and shoulder season. The 3 a day schedule is a mix of 2 x E175 and 1 mainline or more rarely 1 x E175 and 2 mainline. UA doesn't have any CRJ-900s. The E175 is great, with a high ratio of first:economy it's good for upgrades and at 2:2 in the b...

As a resident I say this lovingly about my neighbors: they are full of good ideas for historic re-use that is probably economically unviable.

Re: Driver testing

Thanks all, this is starting to cohere as a picture of not very rigorous road testing.

The Truman Show style off-road facility is an abomination for testing people's driving skills. It's like giving people their pilot's license based on simulator training only.

Driver testing

The recent discussions about pedestrian safety have made me think about this. When I did my driver road test in MN I had been driving for 10 years (on the other side of the road, admittedly) so I'm not sure what a truly new driver gets here. What I experienced for my MN road test was a 10 minute cir...

That was my thought too -- there's already a 41 story tower right by this bridge and in this historic district. If anything another one on the other side would enhance the skyline.

This group visited the Prospect Park Zoning & Project Review committee last night, and the committee was very proposed. It's outside Prospect Park, but it's the closest neighborhood. On a committee that includes several architects and which has been constructively critical of quite a lot of proposal...

Per MPR "only about two dozen people a day from the Twin Cities fly that route" People will have to connect in other places like Seattle or San Francisco, and (horrors!) maybe on other airlines, if they want one-stop flights to wherever they were going after Tokyo. http://www.mprnews.org/story/2016/...

Re: Car Sharing / Rental (Car2Go, HourCar, etc.)

Can't say many will find this convenient. Driving the xtra distance to Terminal 2 will cost more + the $7.50 charge, then the train back to Terminal 1 if you're at Terminal 1. It's not at all hard to park close to 46th or 50th or VA stations, walk 100 yards to the train for no fee, and then get stra...

Or instead of connecting in NRT, Minnesota business people connect in SFO or SEA, maybe even on other airlines :)
