Re: Amazon's New HQ?

We can certainly craft requirements in the bid that protect us from bad behavior. If Amazon doesn't like it, so be it.

Re: Amazon's New HQ?

But that's not what I'm saying. I'm saying that blocking HQ2 because Target doesn't like it is asinine, especially given some of Target's track record with things that Amazon clearly supports and are good for the city. We needed state authorization for that transit sales tax and Target blocked it. T...

Re: Amazon's New HQ?

AFAIK none of those companies single-handedly killed funding for transit.

Re: Amazon's New HQ?

Moving out of the city and actively opposing transit investment, for starters. Yeah, who would want to work for one of those companies that moves out of a downtown to the suburbs, anyway? :) Point taken, but at least we moved near LRT! Yes, I absolutely hate that we moved, but it does seem to be th...

Re: Amazon's New HQ?

I'm certainly not saying unlimited giveaways. I just think we should make a real effort, not some watered-down attempt just to say we tried. I actually think the city could do the most here, not the state. The city could provide a lot of (public) infrastructure for example. The state could help fund...

Re: Amazon's New HQ?

Target has had plenty of sweet deals thrown its way. I see no reason not to do the same for a company that projects to bring thousands, if not tens of thousands of jobs here.

Target is actively hostile to Minneapolis. I have no sympathy for them.

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

I have no idea if re-bidding will help. That's what the Council needs to determine. I have no position on what they should do since I'm not privy to the details. I trust that the smart folks over there will figure it out. If they re-bid and the bids don't get lower, then there are some hard decision...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

This project is gift that just keeps on giving...to transit opponents that is. At this point it seems like the supporters of this project as-is only do so to keep opponents from getting a win. All the delays, overruns, and problems with this line have set back mass transit support in this city damn...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

That, and leaving a billion dollars of federal money sitting on the table, makes it an unlikely proposition. The federal powers that be already want to kill that money. It's only a matter of time before they succeed. I'd rather us not assume we can keep delaying for this, that, and the other thing ...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

Build it to Hopkins. SW Transit could continue to operate their express shuttles, and Metro could create a connector for those who want to use local SWLRT stations. Honestly, at that point, I would be fine if it never was completed to Eden Prairie. Unacceptable. Eden Prairie has some of the most ec...

Re: Amazon's New HQ?

I think that was acs' point. If HQ2 comes here, it can be a bulwark against the failure of BestBuy and Target, or in a better situation, create synergies in the workforce. If HQ2 doesn't come here, at best we have the status quo and at worst we lose all of the Target and BestBuy jobs with no gain to...

I would guess if they did that we'd have to start the federal process all over.
