Re: Downtown Minneapolis Riverfront - Mill Ruins Park - Waterworks

The post office would make a very nice indoor market along the lines of Cleveland's West Side Market.

Re: Minneapolis Mayoral Election 2017

I'm gonna say Hodges. Assuming the DFL left ranks three choices, I'm guessing Hodges will be in the top three of most of those ballots. I could see Hodges, Hoch and Frey splitting the "mainstream" vote either evenly or with Frey trailing the other two. Do Frey voters put Hodges or Hoch first? I say ...

Re: Minneapolis Mayoral Election 2017

ADUs are kind of a form of this but pretty limited. An ADU is adding a unit to a lot, not dividing the lot. Sorry, I was a bit sloppy there. I meant that ADUs are a form of "tiny house" now allowed in Minneapolis. If we allowed lots to be subdivided it could be sold as an owned unit. Mostly I see t...

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

Good idea. How small can we make the headway on the shared segment with the Blue Line? The Blue Line is limited due to the shared segments downtown, so you'd need a schedule that takes the constraints of two different shared segments into account. Then add in our Midtown inlining dream. :)

Re: Minneapolis Mayoral Election 2017

I read it as defining the gentrification we care about as that which results in rents rising faster than an appropriate for existing units. Isn't she more precise than that, at least in one place? We need to flag the neighborhoods that are experiencing housing cost increases at a higher rate than t...

Re: Minneapolis Mayoral Election 2017

I would say that makes her my #2. Though as usual the "solutions" for gentrification are vague and hand-wavey. Does anyone out there have solid ideas on this?

I really like how she explicitly calls out making more housing types feasible.

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

My biggest concern is limiting the consist size. They need to design for expansion to at least two, preferably three LRVs. That doesn't mean closing intersections now, but designing things so that closing intersections in the future won't require a ton of reconstruction.

noting the amount of white in the drawings
Oh dear. It appears my comment was far too subtle. Allow me to amend:

Appears to be a lot of white *people*.

But get real, it's the old burger king that needs to come down. The Uptown has questionable food and a terrible parking lot.

Re: RE: Re: Mozaic (all phases)

I would really like to see something go into the SOHO Pizza lot. You better not be talking about Soho Cafe. Their Greek Chicken Pita and Gyros are really good, and super cheap. Plus they are open late. I wouldn't want to see the businesses leave, though that's probably what would happen. But that p...

I dunno. We've seen more than one proposal in Uptown fizzle. Whatever happened to the project that was supposed to go where Corner Balloon, etc. are?

I really don't understand why people like that run for office in the first place. First, how do you decide to run for an office where you have no idea what the common issues are for that position. And then go to a forum or answer questionnaire where you flat out say "I don't know anything about tha...

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

Not sure whether this should be moved to the Midtown thread, but here goes. How many riders on the 21/53 ride from between Uptown and Hiawatha to east of Hiawatha? Back when I used to ride it regularly, the major transfer points seemed to be Chicago, University and to a lesser extent, Hiawatha. Does...

Re: Sons of Norway block redevelopment - 1455 Lake St W

To me Uptown really isn't an office type of place, for better or worse, it's much more happy hour to late night and weekends area. And I think that's okay. Well, some of us actually live here... :) Kidding, kidding. I know what you meant. But still, this corridor could use some family things too. C...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure

Ah, now I know what I was seeing. The parallel lines with the perpendicular parking markers make it look like a buffer area and the lack of perpendicular lines where the bollards are make it look like the bike lane. A similar arrangement along Oak St. does not have the outer line in the parking area.
