Which is crazy, because a Broadway/Washington streetcar makes zero sense without the shared infrastructure of the Nicollet-Central line.
Why? 5th St. is not very far away.

If I were a Minneapolisite who voted for Frey for any urbanist/YIMBY/Vision Zero/etc. reason, that interview would give me heartburn. He's already unwilling to defend some of the things that were in his platform.
Such as?

Re: Minneapolis Mayoral Election 2017

Boy, that's super condescending to assume that people who disagreed with him were only focused on "narrative and character traits" and actually don't understand policy and oh if they did they would of course agree with me. First, we need to dispel the notion that increased supply of housing negative...

I think it looks odd too, but didn't read about them moving the building. Makes sense to abut the two.

Wow, that's so great! Never knew there was such a thing as wood pavers. I hope we can save and re-use some of them.

Re: Minnesota Governor Election 2018

I'm not sure it would be as easy as you think against Dean or Johnson. There are a lot of angry Strib commentors. Suppose she did win. How would she govern? Would she be open to concerns of the cities? I have no idea what she's done in Woodbury. How has she been on transportation and land use? Has s...

But of course they're only a regional provider. They still rely on the big monopolies for access to the backbone.

I don't know that they're actively trying to kill it but they are definitely withholding support and not taking actions they could be taking to push it through. It's incredibly disappointing.

Re: Northside - General Topics

I think the new building looks nice. It's really only one curb cut on Broadway. Not ideal, but not terrible, terrible, especially given the monstrous Cub next door. My only hesitation is the affordability of the new commercial space vs. the old. Sounds like the existing buildings are in pretty rough...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

I sat on the Midtown CAC during Metro Transit's study. My understanding is that the historic designation includes embankments *and vegetation* (which everyone thought was ridiculous). The Midtown Greenway Coalition apparently supported the historic designation to preserve the Grenway for the bike pa...

Smart Cities

Two of my three favorite subjects collide: "How Cities Use HPC at the Edge to Get Smarter" https://www.hpcwire.com/2017/11/17/cities-use-hpc-edge-get-smarter/ It's a pretty generic, hand-wavy article but assuming cheap, plentiful sensors become available soon, what kinds of data would we want to col...

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings

For me it isn't a transit hill. It's a very real, hyper-local manisfestation of the way we're being completely screwed by the rich and powerful, in multiple aspects of society and our daily lives. Look at what is going on in Congress, at the FCC, EPA, etc. etc. etc. It is all about catering to the w...

Let's say Metro Transit refuses and provides regular LRT service.

What is DHS gonna do about it? Shut down the Super Bowl?

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings

Exactly. People are far too quick to just let our PUBLIC transit system be taken from the public. The replacement service, even free, is not equivalent. It's much slower and less comfortable. The super bowl attendees should use it. They can even have it for free! If DHS is *so* worried about a terro...

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings

Your solution is not possible, the Dept of Homeland Security requires the security zone around the Super Bowl due to it being classified as a first tier security risk event. The light rail runs directly through the security zone, and those that don't have tickets can not go into the zone. Metro Tra...
