Re: Milwaukee

Huh. Ok, maybe I'll try that next time. I loathe 90.

It's a real easy pitstop on the way to Chicago. It only adds an extra 5-10 minutes of drive time to go 94 vs 90.
Really? Seems like a very large increase in distance.

Re: Dan Patch Intercity Regional Passenger Rail

Dan Patch was a very famous racehorse who raced at the state fair grandstand, among other venues. The proposed line follows the old Dan Patch electric railroad line (formally the MNS), nicknamed so because Patch's owner at the time (Marion Willis Savage, also the namesake of the town) started the ra...

Re: 1301 West Lake Street - Uptown

Y.know, medical space would be pretty good here. Right now the existing clinics are tucked away in not-visible places. Most people don't even know they're there. Assuming PP is going to rebuild on their existing site, it would be a convenient complementary location. I'm really struggling to think of...

Re: Fantasy maps

I do find that idea intriguing. Lyndale is really worst at Franklin and The Wedge, both due to left-turners. Address that and a lot of the congestion problems on southbound Lyndale are greatly reduced. Northbound slows at the 94 entrance and into the bottleneck and I'm not sure how to address that. ...

I think they actually had to spend time and effort to make it that bad.

Re: Fantasy maps

There would have to be serious thought before removing 94 access from Hennepin. Both the Lyndale and Hennepin entrances are bogged up during rush hour. So is Franklin at 5th. I like the idea of limiting access but I suspect it would need a complete reconfiguration of the interchange. Something I'd l...

Re: Galtier Plaza

While I strongly disagree with the language used to describe people, the building itself indeed has fatal flaws. It rained indoors, for God's sake. Mario, formerly of Andrea's pizza, can tell you some stories. Building management shows little interest in maintenance. Employees generally liked the lo...

Re: Mozaic (all phases)

No housing as part of the project? That would be a huge missed opportunity. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk  They just got a big check. They don't have a project to speak of yet. Scott Dibble pointed out to me that PP may have safety guarantee requirements that preclude a mixed-use devel...

Re: Minnesota Governor Election 2018

I mean, it's not my job to read it for you. Ok, there's lots of unpack here, starting with the fact that on the campaign trail, handing out a glossy volume with lots of text isn't gonna cut it. But more importantly, most people don't give a hoot about "programs." Take your energy-effiicient governm...

Re: Minnesota Governor Election 2018

I see messaging and engagement with elected officials of small communities that is about improving the economy with durable, good-paying jobs while respecting the (local and global) environment ( here's an example! ). Forgive me, but that report has a lot of text so I just scanned it. I saw nothing...

Re: Minnesota Governor Election 2018

The cynical approach would be to join the unrealistic promises game that Republicans are sure to engage in, somehow manage to lock down the MN House/Senate/Governor by 2020, then attempt an aggressive redistricting process that better optimizes the expanding Dem base in the metro relative to the la...

Re: Minnesota Governor Election 2018

Slowing urban freeway expansion... and directing some of that money to Greater MN does that in a significant way. We should be stopping urban freeway expansion for it's own sake. Whether that money is well-used elsewhere depends a lot on what's being proposed. This, for example, does not seem like ...

Re: Minnesota Governor Election 2018

I don't think anyone has a good idea about how to compromise between "I'd like a job that's inherently polluting" and "we don't want you to pollute." If this is the majority view of the DFL, and I increasingly think it is, then the DFL will continue lose the Iron Range and quite possibly the state....

Re: Minnesota Governor Election 2018

I would add increasing road spending to that list, though raising the gas tax to pay for it prolly wins out in terms of perception, and in terms of actually helping, more roads doesn't exactly do that. Here's one tack that might work, though it's risky because it could lose suburban votes: - Keep g...

Re: Minnesota Governor Election 2018

Mass transit is certainly for the metro, but opposing it is even further skewing state spending toward rural areas that already disproportionately benefit from state funds. Transit is ALSO for Greater MN. Talk to the folks in St. Cloud who have been fighting hard for it. Or the older folks in far-f...

Re: Galtier Plaza

http://www.twincities.com/2017/08/02/fhima-bistro-373-minneapolis-st-paul/ 1. Can Nan Hynes be ousted already? She is totally incompetent at managing Galtier. 2. With the Fhima exiting, can that idiotic brick wall be removed and main entrance to the building be restored? I don't know if that's Nan'...
