Re: St. Croix River Crossing

Looking for someone to write a streets.mn post on this bridge and why it's "good/bad/mixed". Any takers?

Did all of you see this? Some pretty damning quotes about that building.

Who owns the building anyway?

Re: Alatus St. Anthony Tower (Washburn-McReavy Site)

Hey would anyone here be willing or able to write a post on this project for streets.mn? I think it'd be a great topic and we could use a bit of conversation on this, how it relates to city goals or fits or doesn't fit downtown.

I'd love it! Let me know if you'd like a hand.

Re: Embarrassing Confessions of Urbanists

Have you walked past the Met Council building? No doors face the street! Well, none aside from a couple of emergency exits that don't have any exterior handles. This explains a lot In met council's defense, that horrible building was designed and built for some other government agency, and then the...

Re: Embarrassing Confessions of Urbanists

I used to be for removing the skyways, and I think the argument for that is very well reasoned, but I have flip-flopped and now think the skyways have unique charm. My reasoning is if a mall can sustain 4 stories of foot traffic, a good urban area should be able to handle 2. Simplistic argument per...

The closest thing to a seedy stroll down Hennepin is this amazing artsy video from 1982 that someone forwarded to me yesterday. it's captivating, and you can see why downtown had a very different feel back then, and was cool enough to inspire Tom Waits songs, when today it would sound more like boy ...

Goodwill (University & Griggs) - former Whitaker Buick

This rendering of the Whitaker Buick site at University & Griggs just crossed my desk. A friend of mine owns property on the alley behind this building, and received this in the mail. But I've not heard any other details about it. Any thoughts? Anyone have more info? At first glance, 2 stories i...

And for some reason, they're "controversial?" I swear, next year, I'm gonna get a job driving one of those things and blog about it...
Last time I saw one of their job postings, car ownership was a prerequisite.
Well that's lame. There goes my killer New Yorker piece.

I completely agree that I am uncompelling. Regardless, people from the burbs discovering awesome dive bars is pretty much the gold standard of urbanism.

Re: Schmidt Brewery Apartment Conversion

Thanks for the plug. The only local papers i'm aware of in StP: Highland Villager, the downtown one you mentioned, the West Side Voice, the Park Bugle (St Anthony Park), the North End News (which often reprints Villager articles). Of those, only the Villager has a full time reporter and has lots of ...
