Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News

Yikes. Please don't tell me Nicollet's location will close or be budget down-monikered to Sports Strap Rack or something.

Re: The Commons - Downtown East Park

I think Downtown East is a pretty meaningless and useless term. I'd recommend that we have the Mill District and Elliott Park, and they're divided by the Commons and the stadium, which is its own little district to itself. True. In my mind, I'm calling that little middle district The Shipyard®, bec...

Re: Nicollet Mall Reconstruction Project

I may be the only person who likes the northern two blocks of Nicollet Mall. The straight, concrete portion from the Library to Washington. Christ, just do that. And, save the trees. I don't need Gloria Gaynor mirror/tiles above my head. Fittingly, at first I was afraid, now I'm petrified.

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block

Or, maybe we should STFU up but the City's vetting process. Or, let's just STFU about everything and turn this into a moderator blog.

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block

I think it's a drop-off area servicing the hotel lobby, in lieu of a full-on porte-cochère.

I guess they are going to recreate the island. I thought the DNR said "no f***ing way".

Re: Minneapolis Skyway System

For a newcomer, it is nearly impossible to access/find the entry to this leg of the skyway system. I've seen people point and do a disoriented twirl to spy an entrance. I've helped and said "You just have to cut through this parking lot, enter those double doors, hang a left at the little dry cleane...

Re: Superior Plating site

To a great degree, I agree that this stretch is pretty aggressive, with the 3 lanes, one way. And some fixes should be looked at. But, there's no erasing that it connects to the two bridges into downtown. So it's always going to be a thoroughfare of sorts. Trust me, for 12+ years I've lived at a ver...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map

I don't really understand why you see it as such a problem to have one overarching area that contains smaller areas. Even in your previous post delineating the arts, entertainment, gateway, and theatre district, you had the entertainment district being a superset of the theater district and the gat...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map

Super curious how they determined those boundaries. West of Nicollet makes sense, I guess, but why that little protrusion of mostly office buildings north of 5th? Plus, that area is already called Gateway. And the Loring part is, well, Loring. Maybe the middle part as WeDo could create some mindsha...

I also seem to remember, about 15 years ago, Nordeast/E. Hennepin trying a "NeHe" moniker. It just didn't fly. It's always better when it ends with a 'Ho. (WeHo, SoHo)
