Re: White Castle and Holiday at Central & Hennepin

What would a White Castle and Holiday Station look with a high FAR and good urban standards, if it's even possible? Losing the drive-thru isn't an option considering how much of their business they'd lose without it, and gasoline pumps take up a lot of space, so what do you suggest? Working with som...

Re: White Castle and Holiday at Central & Hennepin

Whether they don't fit your urbanist tastes is another story, but there's obviously something wrong with the buildings; business owners don't tear down and rebuild just because they're bored. The Holiday seems very small for a modern gasoline station both in terms of the pumps and in the size of the...

Re: U.S. Highway 169

Big shocker, people that took a survey on US 169 use Highway 169 and don't want to be stuck in traffic.
And the 169 shield looks like a Wisconsin county highway marker.

Re: Chanhassen - Chaska - Carver County - General Topics

It's no coincidence it's near the railroad tracks and the US 212 freeway- the original purpose of US 212 was to link Jonathan with the rest of the metro. Today it doesn't look much different from any suburb because the non-residential components never came to pass and the assumption was still that e...

Latest rumors: The Asylum is moving from it's home in Bumper Cars and it's not moving to a permanent haunt structure. Normally when haunt moves it's because the location is unavailable for construction. Important looking people have been seen taking measurements of the building. With the announced g...

Re: Counties Transit Improvement Board (CTIB)

Looking at Dakota County's list, they're all either on state trunk highways or county state aid highways the county wants to to become trunk highways (in this scenario it would be trade where the county would take some trunk highway that don't need expansion). Existing county state aid and trunk hig...

Re: Tim Hortons

Tim Hortons (at least the ones in the Maritime provinces) are better than Dunkin Donuts, but I'd take either one, provided it had a drive thru, in east Bloomington. The city and developer seem to have more grandiose visions for the vacant lot at 94th and Lyndale, but it could be a redevelopment some...

Re: Bloomington - General Topics

The gas stations were vacant and for sale for several years before the city finally bought them. As far as 3-lane sections, the're considering it for Portland Ave when it gets rebuilt, but Old Shakopee Rd anywhere west of Portland has too much traffic.

It'll be interesting to see what happens at Old Cedar Ave and Old Shakopee Rd with the new bicycle trail and the city wanting left turn lanes. When they wanted right turn lanes at France and Old Shakopee is when three out of the four corners got leveled and redeveloped. Council Member "People say 'T...

Latest is they were going to issue a RFQ for an office development late last year. A few years back they had their "String of Pearls"; intersections that they were concentrating on redoing, and this wasn't one of them.

I don't know. The dealership wants you to buy one of their cars from dealer stock the day you come in. If you order one, you might decide all the expensive, high profit add-ons aren't worth it and order a bare-bones base model. If they send you to their Burnsville dealership to look at cars they hav...

You expect a city that's apparently too poor to use flashing yellow arrows on brand new signals can pay for engineering studies and intersection redesigns every time a pipe needs fixing?

It says "Please No Bus Waiting", taped to the front door, right below a sign "No Kids Without a Parent Present". I always assumed it was meant to apply to the store only rather than to try assert authority over the sidewalk.

Yes, that's really the issue. The businesses that are there presumably like the on-street parking, ease of getting to them via car, and economical land values that enable economical buildings and off-street parking. To get anything done we need either provide evidence that things will be better for ...

A few comments on Midway Books: * Just because they don't like the neighborhood doesn't mean it's feasible for them to pack up and leave, just like it's not feasible to sell your house and buy a different one closer to your work every time you change jobs. You have all the closing costs, real estate...

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

Do we have any statistics on the businesses on University that are doing better because people can arrive by train in addition to bus, car, bike, and foot, vs the ones that closed due to losing on-street parking or construction disruption?
