Re: Tim Hortons

Tim Hortons (at least the ones in the Maritime provinces) are better than Dunkin Donuts, but I'd take either one, provided it had a drive thru, in east Bloomington. The city and developer seem to have more grandiose visions for the vacant lot at 94th and Lyndale, but it could be a redevelopment some...

We eventually got rid of our bushes. Fresh raspberries weren't worth the tradeoff of it being a massive mosquito hideout.

Re: Bloomington - General Topics

The gas stations were vacant and for sale for several years before the city finally bought them. As far as 3-lane sections, the're considering it for Portland Ave when it gets rebuilt, but Old Shakopee Rd anywhere west of Portland has too much traffic.

Re: Bloomington - General Topics

It'll be interesting to see what happens at Old Cedar Ave and Old Shakopee Rd with the new bicycle trail and the city wanting left turn lanes. When they wanted right turn lanes at France and Old Shakopee is when three out of the four corners got leveled and redeveloped. Council Member "People say 'T...

Re: Bloomington - General Topics

Latest is they were going to issue a RFQ for an office development late last year. A few years back they had their "String of Pearls"; intersections that they were concentrating on redoing, and this wasn't one of them.

Re: Bloomington - General Topics

I don't know. The dealership wants you to buy one of their cars from dealer stock the day you come in. If you order one, you might decide all the expensive, high profit add-ons aren't worth it and order a bare-bones base model. If they send you to their Burnsville dealership to look at cars they hav...

Re: Pedestrian Safety and Infrastructure Improvements

You expect a city that's apparently too poor to use flashing yellow arrows on brand new signals can pay for engineering studies and intersection redesigns every time a pipe needs fixing?

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

It says "Please No Bus Waiting", taped to the front door, right below a sign "No Kids Without a Parent Present". I always assumed it was meant to apply to the store only rather than to try assert authority over the sidewalk.

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

Yes, that's really the issue. The businesses that are there presumably like the on-street parking, ease of getting to them via car, and economical land values that enable economical buildings and off-street parking. To get anything done we need either provide evidence that things will be better for ...

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

A few comments on Midway Books: * Just because they don't like the neighborhood doesn't mean it's feasible for them to pack up and leave, just like it's not feasible to sell your house and buy a different one closer to your work every time you change jobs. You have all the closing costs, real estate...

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

Do we have any statistics on the businesses on University that are doing better because people can arrive by train in addition to bus, car, bike, and foot, vs the ones that closed due to losing on-street parking or construction disruption?

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

Sounds like a great place for a light rail and freight rail line to give people an alternatives to driving trucks and single occupant cars along the corridor an option. A lot cheaper than $50-$70 million to make the road safe and efficient.

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

There's something to be said for closing the glaring gaps in our expressway network even if the raw traffic counts don't merit it. (See the new MN 60 expressway which has about 5,000 a day) It creates a cohesive system, encourages commerce, and increases safety on these routes that tend to have heav...

Re: Bloomington - General Topics

My observation is that when something gets truly decrepit on Lyndale the land is desirable enough someone buys it out and fixes it up or redevelops it. Besides the new Italian restaurant some Examples- the credit union replacing two gasoline stations, Tony's appliances and the popcorn shop replacing...

Re: Bloomington - General Topics

The commercial definately got overbuilt in the 1980s-1990s around Oxboro, the anchor tenant in the one northeast of 98th and Old Shakopee is a beauty school that got displaced by the new city hall. But I don't really see a problem with Lyndale Ave. Fast food drive-thrus have to be somewhere, and ine...

Re: Minnesota Transportation Funding (General)

There's more to selecting a candidate than whether they support the bonding and transportation bills or not. As a Republican supporter as much as I want roadway capacity expansion this is not going to make me switch sides. So I seriously doubt that any representatives will not be elected because the...

Re: 3535 Grand Ave S

No matter what happens, it's not going to be possible to build anything but McMansions unless we address some of the policies constraining land supply. You have 1) Anti-growth policies like the MUSA line 2) Minimum lot size zoning that most of the suburbs have. When these combine and a typical subur...

Re: Bloomington - General Topics

Notes from the Old Cedar Ave trail meeting: I was only the 2nd person to sign in, So I was able to talk to the city engineer as long as I wanted to: *The Bloomington Trail WILL BE FULLY PROTECTED and 8-10 feet wide all the way to the bridge. None of that "nothing between me and cars but paint" type ...
