Re: West Calhoun Apartments - (3118 Lake Street W)

http://www.southwestjournal.com/notes/news/six-story-trygs-project-advances-with-neighborhood-vote-to-not-oppose Yuck. Really preferred the original 11-story design for so many reasons. It's too bad Minneapolis' fear of height caused this project to transform into a much more aesthetically bland and...

Re: 2316-2320 Colfax Apartments

He also mentioned the Facebook fights over the project and chided the opponents for heckling Bender, so good on him for that, I guess. Heckling? As in heckling in the Council chambers? Or do you mean the general mostly-online bullying tactics? Just curious if there was any kerfuffle today, or if pe...

Re: 2316-2320 Colfax Apartments

Also, someone recorded some footage from the vigil of a speech from Nicole Curtis. I think she makes a few questionable statements (TIL: in Europe, no old buildings are torn down ever, to be replaced with new green ones). Perhaps worth a little more dissection, just to see what new arguments will b...

Re: 2316-2320 Colfax Apartments

I find it amusing that someone was accused of being a "Whittier resident" all the while Anders Christiansen from Kingfield was in attendance leading the brigade. I find it disturbing that formal neighborhood of residence should ever be seen as a valid way to define who does and doesn't have a perce...

Re: Elan Uptown Phase I - (2837 Dupont Avenue South)

I'd say $1,500/mo is at the high end of that income level though, especially if it's a family with children. I was just replying to the "young professional" thing, which I took to mean single. Some people will pay 40% of their income towards housing, some will pay 20%... the point was more that the...

Re: Elan Uptown Phase I - (2837 Dupont Avenue South)

I just reread the whole quote a few posts up and I read it as meaning there are two groups. 1) young professionals 2) empty nesters with incomes of $100k Given the rents, I'd think anyone living there probably needs a six-figure income. Units around $1,400-$1,800 wouldn't require a six-figure incom...

Re: Hennepin Avenue

Hmm. Would a park & ride at West Lake make some sense? No. I believe City of Minneapolis policy is flat-out "no" to P&R, and rightfully so. What a thumb in the eye it would be to the tens of thousands of people riding transit in Uptown, Whittier, etc. that they get unreliable and often packed-to-th...

Re: Hennepin Avenue

No, it wouldn't. Hennepin is actually pretty good for pedestrians. Wha? I used to walk to/from work on Hennepin (Lake to 24th) and man it was a nightmare in the afternoon/evening. Lots of sketchy left-turns without looking for pedestrians, plus the curb cuts at places like Roat Osha, Green Mill, Ko...

Re: Hennepin Avenue

Hennepin serves the region both as a transportation corridor and as the primary artery of a major commercial district. There's plenty of reason for lots of non-residents to give a hoot. I also think it's reasonable to acknowledge that you can't just ignore ~30,000 vehicles worth of daily traffic. Ma...

Hmmm, Bar Louie and Louies Wine Dive just blocks from each other... maybe we should rename the neighborhood to Louie's.
Shouldn't that be Louieville? :D
