Re: Mayo Expansion Proposal - Rochester

Gotta say, One Discovery Square looks like a suburban office park, not something belonging in a major downtown.

I can verify this feels tightly integrated with the Taco Bell. What an amenity for those new residents.

I think the DECC kills a lot of the potential further into the harbor. I remember going 5th Ave + Harbor Dr (around DECC) to get between downtown and Canal Park and it was a surprisingly awful walk despite being along waterfront. https://goo.gl/maps/4oHS48nJsk5MvN9v6

The vast majority of SPPA projects are total duds that look like they're competing with Rogers or Shakopee for low-employment-density warehousing and manufacturing. https://www.sppa.com/commercial-redevel ... d-projects

It looks like there's a CMU wall going in on some of the 5th St frontage of the parking ramp immediately behnid the new city building. Anyone know what that's about?

I'm more concerned about how we can get buses quickly down the corridor from North Loop to Gateway to Mill District, but maybe we just need signal priority and some bus skip queues on Washington.

If I was managing an apartment complex and 95% of my car housing was leased, I'd be raising car rent.

Re: Iron Store - 528 Washington Ave N (Uncancelled)

This makes me long even more for a 3rd St connection across the rail trench, particularly as a backup corridor for buses and bike/walk. Washington Ave just gets too choked around Hennepin and Nicollet, and the North Loop could really use some better transit.

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects

It makes sense to consolidate buses onto Hennepin since the bridge has excess lane capacity. The only problem is that squeezing dedicated bus lanes onto Hennepin would be difficult between 1st and Washington. A dedicated bus lane around River Towers and Voya would work well for southbound buses to N...

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects

1. Seems like a great opportunity to *at a minimum* flip the bike lane to the outside of the jersey barrier, so both bicyclist and pedestrians are protected from motorists. 2. I wonder what this would have looked like if Lisa Goodman hadn't blocked a three lane 3rd Ave profile through downtown. 3. I...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News

Is it 60% of linear frontage or 60% of actual floor area? I hope it's not the latter. We need more retail density, not necessarily more retail floor area. If you have a 15,000 square foot floorplate but want to put in ten 500 sf storefronts (5,000 sf or 33%) that's much better for street life than a...

Re: Former West Publishing / County Jail development site

Fair enough. But even today, after seeing the giant concrete wall where the jail and West once stood, it seems like they could shift the rail quite a bit north from its current location between the old P.O./Customs House and Ontario St. Alongside some rethinking of Shepard Road in this stretch, it c...

Re: Former West Publishing / County Jail development site

Side comment, but I've always wondered why the railroad wasn't relocated under Kellogg during that giant 1940s-1950s project that defined the riverfront the way it is now... when most of the buildings south of Kellogg were demolished, Kellogg was widened onto what is essentially a viaduct, Kellogg M...

Re: North Loop Green - Hines - 350 N 5th St(?) - 36 stories / ~400'(?)

There's one island with two platforms. A real train hub would generally need many more. That said, I'm not holding my breath we'll get lots more trains any time soon, and we have options to deal with capacity down the road, maybe with some sort of tunneling. More buildings are good in the meantime. ...
