Re: Wells Fargo Redevelopment - 801 Portland - 16 stories - 180'

Wow, Portland will have quite the canyon effect once this is complete. Even moreso once this parking lot and the HCMC parking lot (next to the ramp where you're standing) are developed. Seems like Portland could go down to two lanes + protected bikeway + parking bulbouts + trees similar to how it is...

It sounds like there may be a riverfront development planned for the Broadway Pizza site (Broadway Ave and W. River Road) - and apparently the restaurant is willing to give away the caboose on the corner if you're interested...

Re: Uptown Retail & Restaurant News

It's kind of wild that the CB2 and LA Fitness corners are entirely new parts of the complex (replacing old buildings) within the past decade. And they don't include a vertical housing or hotel or even office component. In the case of CB2, I seem to recall the previous building had multiple storefron...

We have a Dunn Brothers franchisee on the forum (and down the block from me) - maybe they can chime in OTR?

Rewinding through some planned developments on the city website. I discovered that on November 26th the city approved the redevelopment of 10400, 10500, and 10550 Bren Rd E. Rezoned to PUD supporting two apartment buildings, 195 units in one and 55 units in the second. 55 units will be priced for 6...

That white column is rather prominent looking north on Marquette... would be a cool living wall or area for some sort of art.

Re: Thrivent Headquarters Block - 6th St and Portland Ave

I've long thought the City could play a more active role in trying to focus retail onto certain corridors in "new" neighborhoods: - Higher priority for incremental or CIP projects to improve bike/walk/on-street parking with a reduction in travel lanes. - Carrots to encourage going above and beyond m...

Commuting 100 miles each way should be a deal breaker no matter the mode. This is more about regional connections than daily commuting.

I don't know why we're so hung up on new rails to Rochester. I don't know why you have to compete with drive times when being on a train means you don't have to sit behind a windshield and focus on driving. Service just has to be comfortable, reliable, and conveniently timed. With Canadian Pacific's...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News

I tried sitting out on Nicollet to eat a Brueggers bagel for a quick break at work yesterday morning. I mean, at least it's not a construction zone anymore... But such a missed opportunity. First, there are few patio places on the north end of Nicollet - nowhere street-facing to get a coffee. There ...

I think the DECC kills a lot of the potential further into the harbor. I remember going 5th Ave + Harbor Dr (around DECC) to get between downtown and Canal Park and it was a surprisingly awful walk despite being along waterfront. https://goo.gl/maps/4oHS48nJsk5MvN9v6

It’s hard to imagine anything short of a minor nuclear detonation really helping this sad monument to architectural bad taste.
