Re: U.S. Bank Stadium

Rubbing two sticks together would produce more value to society than a new Vikings stadium, however. Oh now yer just being silly. I'm sure there is some loss and an effect on the environment but those products that were reycled went to projects that were going to happen regardless. So those product...

Re: U.S. Bank Stadium

Sure, recycling is great. But it requires a large amount of energy. Keeping an existing stadium is still significantly less resource and energy-intensive than demolishing a stadium (even if 80% is recycled) and building a new one in its place. Reminds me of the statistic that the energy it takes to...

Re: U.S. Bank Stadium

It's kinda crazy how *little* we're hearing from the anti-development/big developer/etc contingency in Minneapolis about this whole thing. I know, powers that be are much higher/stronger in this case (and it's already a done deal). But man. A whole stadium was demolished (think of the material wast...

Re: Major League Soccer Stadium in Minneapolis

I'm so thankful there are so many citizen activists with great concern for the wellbeing of pro sports business owners. Reassuring to know that if Lester Bagley or Bill McGuire can't quite get everything their companies need, then others on UrbanMSP will step up to the plate and demand more from th...

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium

I think it would be much more practical to ensure they have the best cell service possible for looking at stats on your phone. It really is annoying how bad cell service is inside these stadiums. Getting the dedicated bandwidth for that type of activity requires some pretty heft infrastructure. Jus...

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium

TCF had a LOT of environmental cleanup to be done on the site before they could get started. ONce the structure started being built it went fast in part because it was steel construction where this is poured concrete. With Steel construction they can make the parts offsite and assemble them into pla...

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium

Of course the current configuration of 6th street and it being an access point is probably one reason that the site was attractive as a spot for the stadium to be built. That and it being on the location of two light rail lines with access nearby to 94 eastbound and 35w southbound (35w northbound bu...

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium

Ok. I'm going to be that guy. I know the stadium is partially the cause for the road change, but none of this has to do with the stadium. Well it runs right along one side of the stadium and it would be nice to have better pedestrian interaction with the stadium and hopefully spur better developmen...

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium

Personal anecdote, while I neither work downtown nor at a suburban corporate campus today, I had worked at each in the past. I disliked paying for the parking downtown when I was doing that, but eventually grew to prefer it over the distance and separation from everything the campus offered. The sk...

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium

Here are the data points. Number of lanes: 3+ Design speed: 30 MPH+ And why would people want to work in the suburbs? If they wanted to work in the suburbs, there's already plenty of opportunity to get a job there. But more and more people don't want the hell of a freeway commute to a soulless corp...

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium

Instead of anecdotes, is there any data, numbers, on where where acceptable congestion vs. problematic congestion is happening due to this downtown egress? I think a better solution than emptying cars out of downtown faster, would be to demolish as many parking facilities in the CBD as is reasonabl...

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium

Why? Maybe if people are stuck in slow traffic, they'll do what motorists do during snowstorms etc... depart early or late. Scarce goods can be provisioned by price or by queue. Provisioning by price would be congestion pricing, either tolls for freeways or a toll to get in/out of Downtown like Lon...

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium

And the ramp from eastbound 6th is nearly always metered, which reduces the problem of merging to one lane eastbound. Furthermore they fixed the Cedar merge via a restripe a year or two ago (Originally, 94 was 3 lanes eastbound. Then, after the bridge collapse, it picked up a fourth lane on the lef...

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium

http://www.vikefans.com/vf_content/sig/94.jpg This is what I mean the Red part is 2 lane that pinches down to one lane and the yellow part is three lane (through plus turn lanes) going back into the city. Flip those two stretches making the part in the city 2 lanes (plus turns) and widen the long s...

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium

Are you saying cars moving faster is better for pedestrians? No. Not at all. Not sure where you might have gotten that idea. 6th street is a wide pseudo freeway out of downtown and still it is filled up at rush hour because entering 94 is such a cluster. If you do not fix how cars enter 94, limitin...

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium

6th is only nuts during the afternoon rush. It's far overbuilt for 21+ hours a day. Do we want everything along 6th from the backside of Thrivent to the 94 ramp (8 linear blocks) to be an expressway for cars exiting downtown for 2-3 hours per day? Or do we want a framework that supports further dev...

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium

"A vehicle lane would be added to busy Sixth Street, which is a heavily used route to reach Interstate 94 and the east metro." That's disconcerting -- it's already a 3+ lane racetrack that I'm surprised hasn't caused more death and destruction. Maybe Roads and Cars aren't the WMD's that they are ma...
