I'd have to agree. That's one of my favorite aspects of the design. Certainly has more of an "iconic" feel than United's Nicollet Hotel Block proposal.

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects

A new MnDOT study on the I-94 corridor between downtown St Paul and downtown Minneapolis is about to kick off: http://kstp.com/article/stories/s3876761.shtml Whatever the final scope turns out to be, it looks like at minimum this will be very expensive and time consuming: Isaacson said he views MnDO...

Reposting from the Kingfield Neighborhood Facebook group: The unit planned at 3601 Nicollet will be retail, residential and off-street parking. 22 efficiencies (350 sq ft) as affordable housing, 23 studios (400 sq ft) at market rate, and 12 one-bedrooms at market rate. Given it's along the 18 and 13...

More redevelopment in Kingfield:

This is the lot (there's two lots actually) just north of the Mercado with the house that had recently been torn down.

Re: Orange Line (35W BRT) & Lake St Transit Access Project

People wouldn't have to walk 2 blocks to transfer IF the Nicollet line is extended from 494 and Nicollet to 494 and American. Then riders can transfer station to station. Even the pie in the sky streetcar plans don't have it going that far south. I have a feeling that we'll never see streetcar sout...

Re: Orange Line (35W BRT) & Lake St Transit Access Project

How would having many stops on the Orange line prevent fast transit into downtown for commuters? You can have both slow buses (stop at many stops) and fast buses (stop at few stops) on the same line using the same stations. Nicollet and 35W are two short blocks from each other so why not kill two bi...

Re: Orange Line (35W BRT) & Lake St Transit Access Project

You should, however, email Elizabeth Glidden and Betsey Hodges and let them know that you support a station there. Do it now and do it when they start talking about 35W at 38th St again. Done. This could really help accelerate the positive trajectory that this area of South Minneapolis is currently...

Saw crews working on 5th Ave S near 46th street yesterday. That area not scheduled to go live until October, does that mean they're ahead of schedule? (my street is scheduled in November but would love to get it sooner!) The crews were in my neighborhood along Blaisdell about two months prior to se...

Re: Orange Line (35W BRT) & Lake St Transit Access Project

Would it be absurd to forget BRT/Streetcar on Nicollet south of Lake and instead shoot for Orange line stations at most 35W overpasses (about every 4 blocks)? BRT/Streetcar on Nicollet still makes sense north of Lake because of the density and the fact that 35W jogs eastward starting around Lake. So...

Re: Orange Line (35W BRT) & Lake St Transit Access Project

After initial construction is complete, it seems like a no-brainer to shoot for future stops at Franklin, 38th, and possibly 54th/Diamond Lake. Is there any chance some of these might happen within a decade after completion or would a 46th St type station construction have to coincide with bridge re...

Re: Saint Paul Union Depot

I know on Jackson and 7th there is a lonely kiosk with a few cars, but wouldn't it make sense to put that in SPUD? Get a bit more activity in there. That would make total sense. There's already an Avis and Enterprise downtown. Perhaps it's just a matter of waiting for their existing leases to run o...

Would suggesting the inclusion of a movie theater in whatever happens here be a faux pas? The site already has fairly good bus and biking transit options. A Fresh Market is going in at the old Best Food Market space at Nicollet and 38th. Fresh Market opened on Monday, 7/6. Walked through this morning. It's a HUGE improvement over Best Food Market.
