Re: RBC Plaza / Gaviidae II renovation

I think I like it. I've walked through it fairly regularly on my lunch hour and it looks well done. Instead of looking like a second rate Gaviidae, it now has it's own style.

Re: Rumors!

The rumor mill that happen early on with this board was a lot more believable (I've been reading since the beginning of this forum). Even if it was just "I work in the industry, and through networking I've seen render A, or render B for block C." It's entirely probable that things get to preliminary...

Re: Mozaic

I bet someone offered them a better deal downtown in either existing or speculative/proposed office space. Huge blow to Mozaic though, I liked the building.

Re: Northeast - General Topics

Well the small plot is the last remaining plot owned by the Eastman family trust, which once owned the majority of Nicollet Island. Based on past news stories and from what I've read over the years it seems that the plot has been a nuisance for the Eastman family. Even though the sign is non-functio...

Re: Northeast - General Topics

The Pillsbury sign on top of the mill just down the street has gone through a similar rehab. I think there was an article on the rehab as well as a city document outlining plan plus the cost savings. Basically it will get LED tube lighting that is just slightly different color-wise, but which result...

Re: Hampton Inn & Suites - (19 8th Street North)

Mortenson dropped off a little information packet to everyone in the Pence building. Here is their construction milestone schedule: - Parking Lane Closure on 9th Street North - Beginning Feb. 14th. - Bike Lane & (1) 1 Northbound Vehicle Traffic Lane Closures - Beginning Feb. 17th. - Skyway Closure ...

Re: Rumors!

I think it's really easy to judge this building in a negative way based on two crappy renderings that looked liked they were clipped from the newspaper 25 years ago. It's a crazy idea, I'm sure it's not as big and gaudy as it looks, and the spire looks like the halo energy sword. I think part of the...

Re: Hampton Inn & Suites - (19 8th Street North)

Looks like they're making good progress, though hard to tell exactly with that green scaffolding wrap. I think they've topped out, they've had a tar tanker on site for like two weeks. Most windows look to be in, and the exterior finishes are going on. The construction offices are on the other half o...

Re: 510 Marquette Avenue

I know it doesn't bring back that "old world charm" the owner was quoted saying, but I like what they've done for the renovation. Those windows are awesome, and the office space would be quite nice to work in. It's also going to nicely brighten up that whole corner. It's still a little brutalist, bu...

Re: Downtown East Project (Ryan Companies / Wells Fargo)

Looks like 35W through downtown is under construction in that first photo. and the sea of parking was still there back then as well! That sea of parking was already 10 years old. If you're not familiar with the Urban Renewal movement of the 60's, I suggest you do a bit of research and prepare to be ...

Re: Andrews Hotel site (4th & Hennepin)

Losing that half block would be a great loss. It's the last bit of seediness on Hennepin and still a lively area. Granted the 90's looks like hell and could use some work, I would hope all of it stays in the long run.

Pretty sure the floors are poured as well. I was watching when I could see the first couple floors of framing, and they were poured concrete floors.

Re: 4Marq - (313' - 30 Stories)

They've been drilling massive footings for the last couple weeks and filling them with concrete. Some of the holes they are drilling look 10 feet across. I've never seen augers so big. It's funny too, each time I've walked by, 5 to 10 people standing at the fence watching.

I rather like that building as well, it stands out from the crowd, it's unique and uniform. Good for Chicago if this gets built.
