Re: Washington Avenue

I'm all for fantasy speculation about future transportation improvements, but it's getting to the point where we're spending a lot of time on the board criticizing current decisions by planners because they don't conform to the fantasy speculation of some board members. It's confusing and frankly s...

Re: Twin Cities Future Transit Map

You will be pleased to know that the 4 will be added in the next update.
I love it. It gives Northeast form and adds Lyndale to the map making southside look like the densest area outside of downtown (rightly so). But mostly I like it because it suggests the 4 should offer decent service.

Re: Twin Cities Future Transit Map

To me, the map looks a little empty without the 4. I know you don't want it to get too busy, but your map has a lot of whitespace between Columbia Heights and Rosedale. It's not a brt corridor, but I would hope that in a decade it could meet today's standards for the high frequency network. One opti...

Re: Downtown Retail News

Are they all just seasonal? I feel like the Northeast one has been open for quite a while, but then again Christmas starts in mid-September lately. It seemed to me like they've been around for quite awhile too. I was wondering if they were permanent. I suppose I'll walk by there this week and see i...

Re: Downtown Retail News

This year Gaviidae had a store for Midtown Global Market with a mix of handmade and internationally imported goods from various venders at the market. I'd be curious to know how their sales were over the holidays. Nearby, the organization representing the NE Arts District organization had a retail s...

Re: Hot Twin Cities apartment market shows signs of cooling

I don't think we can keep up this pace of apartment construction, but hopefully good projects will continue to get financing. The apartment boom is both an appropriate response to changing long term trends & unmet demand, and it's a frothy sign of market overcompensation. Hopefully, any apartmen...

Re: Vikings Stadium

For example, people have a pretty static budget for entertainment. This is established. They won't spend money on entertainment that they wouldn't otherwise just because there's a new stadium. But it grinds my gears a bit to then extend that argument to "there's no economic benefit at all ever...

The NEIC press release touts the end of the yellow façade. I would love to see what’s under there.

Re: Central & Lowry NE

Last week, the Northeast Investment Cooperative signed a purchase agreement for the old furniture store at 2504/2506 Central Ave. Sounds like the idea is for Recovery Bike Shop to move into the 2504 side from their current spot in the Co-op building. The Co-op would then have room to expand. The Str...

Re: Central & Lowry NE

Does anyone know the plan for the former Burger King on Central and 18th? Hillcrest development purchased it and had a buyer with a plan that couldn’t be disclosed, last I heard. They’ve put a lot of work into this building, inside and out. Surely, they’ve had to disclose their plans by now to pull ...

Re: Vikings Stadium

The point is that if every new user feels the need to write three paragraphs about how they're mad the stadium got approved, I'm going to have an aneurysm before any shovels even get in the ground.
Well for your heath's sake I'd recommend against goading 'em with dismissive comments.

Re: Midtown Corridor

I thought I heard there isn't enough room for LRT, or even consistently double tracked streetcars, in the trench. I thought there was a limit to the streetcar frequencies possible because they can only pass in certain places. Is this true?

Re: Vikings Stadium

Soooo...votes in favor of splitting the Vikings Stadium thread into one about the stadium and one about arguing about the stadium? Sorry, but this stadium is inseparable from the bs that got it built. I'm sorry your tired of hearing it, but this folly is just getting started. As we go along, we get...

Re: Currie Park Lofts Phase I

The Strib reports the Mpls City Council approved moving the Gluek tied house to make room for the Currie Park Lofts. Article However, they show a picture of the old Bedlam Theatre building. I had a freakout moment until I read Twincitizen's comment that the old pub to be moved is actually the small ...

Re: Intercity rail to Chicago

Yes, you're right....I didn't take any "end of the world" scenarios into play. How foolish and short-sighted of me! Nor did I. I only pointed out that we are using temporary economic factors to evaluate longterm investments as if they were static. The need to diversify our transportation ...

Re: Thread Titles

Example, make titles: "Colonnade Apartments- Golden Valley"
I like that idea. Also, for the projects in Mpls and St Paul, it would help to have the addresses in their titles. There are so many projects going on, it can be hard to keep them straight by their names alone.

Re: Intercity rail to Chicago

The fact is that $2 billion for a 1 hour reduction in time vs. a car just doesn't make a very strong business case, especially when air travel offers a 1.5 hour trip for a fairly reasonable price..... For me the train would be worth it now, so to each their own. However, your personal cost/benefit ...

Re: Transit News and Happenings

Zelle seems like he may have a conflict-of-interest on a lot of MNDOT business. He may be stepping down as Jefferson Lines CEO, but he's staying on as Chairmen of the Board. Since Jefferson is his family company, presumably his net worth is dependent on success of the company. Wouldn't the NLX direc...

Re: Transit News and Happenings

This morning as I was waiting for my bus, which was forty minutes late, I was wondering how someone in a wheel chair could get on the bus. There was a massive mound of snow separating the sidewalk and street at my neighborhood bus stop. My first thought was, it would be great if they had crews to go...
