Re: 815 14th Ave SE

^^ Won't there be a convenience store at the current UTEC site, merely 2.5 blocks from the west side of this building? Isn't there House of Hanson just on the other side of 5th? And a CVS at 15th and 4th, 6.5 blocks away? I mean, at worst, even if this were opening today, the longest distance to a ...

Re: 815 14th Ave SE

I bet the "Keep Dinkytown Dinky" supporters are rolling their eyes at this one! Another "high-rise"!!?? On a side note, I live a block away from here. I have to say, what a crappy place to put an apartment complex. The alleyway is a disaster during winter and spring. The location is sub-par. They wi...

Since this is now registered as historic, will there be any work done on the plaza? I'm a little confused.

I can see some creases that would indicate it being assembled in slabs, but it wouldn't shock me either if it was laid individually.

Re: Mortenson Apartment Tower - (400 Marquette Avenue)

If you say on average 2 people live in each of these 3,000 units, that's 6,000 new citizens downtown. That is a decent amount but it's not like they will be moving in tomorrow, it will take a few years. I'm just curious, is the goal to reach another 35,000 people downtown in 12 years feasible? I've...

Re: Downtown Office Market

Could someone explain that article to me as though you would to an idiot? Does this increase or decrease the chances of a new tower? In theory less chance for an office tower. If there was tremendous positive absorption of office space from quarter to quarter, it would indicate a demand in office s...

Re: UTEC Student Housing - (1313 Fifth Street Southeast)

A fair amount of materials from older buildings end up with architectural salvage companies. Any distinguishing elements (sculpted pieces, cornerstones, etc.) will probably be cut out and sold. There are a few companies in the Twin Cities that specialize in dealing with this kind of stuff. (You can...

I would have bet money that this site would not have been developed in the near future! I'm glad I'm wrong. Additionally, I'm also glad Sally's is moving back into the ground floor. It will keep things familiar.

Re: University of Minnesota

I have a gripe with FM. When they did their big restructuring a few years ago (instead of having a custodian take care of everything in an area, they'd have a custodian do a single task for a much larger area, so instead of a custodian that vacuums and takes our trash out in our building, there's a...

Re: University of Minnesota

Dining services contracted out is an example.. the cost per meal for the average dining plan is much higher than one could do by themselves buying groceries I'm curious if you have some insight to some of the numbers inside the U. The price per meal would be higher if the work wasn't contracted out...

Re: University of Minnesota

Agreed, very well said. But there still are layers within the University (Facilities Management in particular) that need to be cut.
