Re: Star Tribune Blocks

Can I take a step back real quick and clarify something. Nobody knows what is actually going to be built here, right? Isn't this 10-story ramp simply a rumor? I think a few of the members have professional connections that are giving insight. But in the grand scheme of things, nobody knows anything...

Re: 621 15th Ave SE

I think McDonalds would be willing to give up their parking for a pretty penny. But they would NEVER give up the drive through, and the spots surrounding it. As for Dinkytown Wine and Spirits, that lot us surprisingly full most nights. I dont anticipate them selling anytime soon after the newly remo...

Re: The Cluster - (1101 4th Street SE)

I agree with Foto. This neighborhood is by and large student housing in buildings just like this, with small yards and everything. I'd rather have 10 of these than one The Knoll. I completely agree! But maybe my taste in architecture is off, but this just seems ugly. I would much rather have someth...

Re: Minneapolis: Highest Rape Rate in America?

Obviously not a joking matter, but I like the "no data listed for Chicago" comment lol. I would like to know the data regarding the percentage of the time the victim knew the rapist. Again, not saying rape isn't a serious matter, but I would wager that some of the "rapes" were actually "drunked mist...

15th Avenue SE & 7th Street SE

Link "There’s another apartment complex springing up near the University of Minnesota, but it isn’t as high end as other new developments. The unnamed Dinkytown project will have 12 townhome-style units and is designed to be more affordable for students. The development, which will replace houses o...

According to a Minnesota Daily poll, 68 percent of voters believe that “as more and more luxury apartments replace old GEMS, Dinkytown is losing the charm that makes it so special.”/i]

Re: House of Hanson Site (14th Avenue SE & 5th Street SE)

Had a chit-chat with an employee of the store while strolling around. She indicated, as we all assumed, that the owner had been looking to sell since the UTEC plans with a grocery became unveiled. From what I gathered, the employees and the owner are not losing sleep over selling except for the loss...

Re: UTEC Student Housing - (1313 Fifth Street Southeast)

Are they salvaging some of the exterior for future use? If not, why isn't this thing leveled yet. Of course I'm no expert.

I'm not the biggest fan of this one.....Does anyone else think it's sub-par? I foresee it looking awkward and out of place in 10 years.

Re: The Bridges - (950 University Avenue SE)

I think this project needs something other that a retaining wall and a set of windows addressing 2nd Street SE. There's huge potential there, if/when East River Road is finally connected through to Main Street. I disagree. I dont think you would see a single person venture below the 19th and 35 bri...

Re: Downtown Office Market

We've been hearing about prospects for new buildings downtown and the one thing going against the idea of height is that there is ample land available. So why build tall? A majority of the ample land available is in the DTE ghost town. Would it be more price efficient to build shorter buildings on ...

Atricle in the Journal today: Link

No new information IMO. Results of the analysis should be released next month.

Is this study looking at how a new 1,000 room hotel could serve other events (besides conventions) such as viking games, etc?

Re: Downtown Office Market

Hopefully this is the right place for this. Sounds like FSN is relocating downtown in LaSalle Plaza. They had formally been across the river. Additionally, the article mentions a "giant LED wall" that is being built in China now. Does anyone know if this is going to be visible from street, inside th...

Re: Mill City Quarter - (300 South 2nd Street)

Hmm, that is kind of ugly...I would be worried it would look a bit like Murals. I dont know....I think the street level glass looks kinda cool actually. A lot more open, and inviting. However, I agree that the upper floors aren't the best. Is this area considered the "Mill District" this far east?
