Re: Fare-Free Transit
If equity is the reasoning then we should just expand the reduced fare program. I feel like handing out free bus passes to everyone in the 7 county area under a certain household income would be a good option as well before going all fare free

Looks like they plan to have the site fully demolished by the end of next May. Everything goes except the fence around the site and the parking lot surface

Re: Nicollet-Lake - greater Kmart area
what are you referring to?If that diagonal path were well programmed, it could be a fantastic experience. If it's not, it will be an unpleasant and dangerous feeling space.
We don't have a great track record on things like this, I'm afraid.

New Nicollet Redevelopment Survey - Phase II, Part 2 https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/NewNicolletPart2 New survey on the options for Nicollet ave kmart reconstruction personally I think concept C and a transit mall would be the best option. The diagonal path would do a good job connecting 1st and blai...

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects
I have always thought someone should take a similar dollar value worth of MnDot projects and compare cost and time overruns on those with transit projects. Just off the top of my head you have the Third Ave bridge and the 35w Storm water tanks that are 1 year plus over schedule and who knows how muc...

I was just looking at their light rail system and was floored to learn they actually share track with a local freight company. Not really sure how that works, does anyone here have any experience with that?

The U of M one runs on natural gas but Center Point wouldn't upgrade their pipe size so they get curtailed to diesel on high demand days. They also have a small coal fired one left as well but it doesn't get used as much anymore

I think the most needed part is providing another layer of security to the rack like putting it inside a locked fence with obvious surveillance.

Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT
I am also assuming there is a soft plan to try to roll over the green line project office staff into this project. That should help keep it moving as well as you don't have to start from scratch like they did with southwest because of the gap in time between it and central corridor.

I feel like the government jobs are hard because a lot of time they already are not paying as well compared to the private sector. Them offering full remote has to be a pretty big perk for getting employees and seems like it would be hard to go any other way

https://metrocouncil.org/Transportation/Projects/Light-Rail-Projects/METRO-Blue-Line-Extension/Web-Docs/2023/Design-and-Engineering/20230302_Elyndale.aspx if you look at page 8 of the slide it shows the Blue line going on either side with the green line going down the middle. My hope is that the bl...

Also how much of that traffic would be rerouted to the 694 bypass anyway. Also the claim is that many people are making local trips, by filling it in you can reconnect the street grid which would allow for much more dispersion of traffic as well.

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
Does anyone know how Metro Transit hiring is going? With all the frequency increases dependent on hiring, I wonder if it's more likely than not that those targets can be hit. Also, with the new transit sales tax replacing $300 - $400M of county contributions, what are the counties planning to do wi...

I will say though, I get the need to keep people away from an active construction site but many of the trail closures look like they could easily be reopened if there was an actual desire to do so. Also there is a sidewalk jog at blake road that biking on I almost ate it in the ballast because i was...
