Re: Downtown East Project (Ryan Companies / Wells Fargo)

Apartments will go on the 3rd St side of the towers, not the 4th St side.

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail

Any chance for a Nordeast station, maybe behind Superior Plating? Or next to Broadway/Central for good transit connectivity in the heart of northeast? Who would the Nordeast station be for? I can't imagine why anyone would want to take it downtown (it'd barely be any faster than the local bus, and ...

Re: Latitude 45 - (301 Washington Avenue South)

Marginally related, BUT, I remembered that there is a restaurant/music club in my hometown (Sioux Falls) called Lattitude 44; now I've been googling "Lattitude ##" for a few minutes, and it looks like restaurants/apartments/entertainment venues exist with this name at least down from Lattitude 48 (W...

Re: Superior Plating site

I'll note that KSTP also claimed that the new outlet mall in Eagan would add "hundreds of millions of dollars" in tax revenue to the state, so I'd take any numbers they quote as plus or minus an order of magnitude, at best.

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)

I just saw another one-car train heading eastbound through campus. It was out of service, but what surprised me was that it was a Type I vehicle (LRV #101, in fact), which to my knowledge don't run on the Green Line. Perhaps it's heading to the St Paul OMF for some specialized repairs that can't be ...

Here's one, showing the traditional "lanes merge" sign, only upside-down, to let you know that a new lane is appearing.

Re: Farmers Market Soccer Stadium

How would that work, exactly? From what I've read, the tax is scheduled to expire in 2037, but the increased tax revenue may speed that up by 5 to 10 years. That means that Target Field bond payments will still consume the ballpark tax until 2027 at the earliest - still 13 years or more away.

Re: "A Line" Snelling Avenue Arterial Bus

Well, seeing how this line runs almost entirely in St Paul, and given St Paul's track record with Green Line signal priority, I think skepticism is warranted. However, based on the line documentation (which I can't find now), they stated a very significant fraction of trip time was station and stopl...

Re: Suburbs - General Topics

Idea (for all struggling regional malls): y'know how there are for-profit colleges, college branch locations (like Mankato State - Edina), community colleges, etc. located in various multi-tenant office buildings around the metro? Wouldn't extra/unused space in a mall actually be pretty compatible ...

Re: Public Transit News and Happenings

Met Council board not big transit riders, survey finds Interesting article. It's very telling to me that many of the non-user council members justify their non-use because they need to make mid-day trips -i.e., they think transit is primarily for AM-PM downtown commuting. I think the reasons that t...

Hmm.. EP is my local mall, and I can't really agree with your characterization of it. It seems every bit as busy and popular as the other malls around town. What days/times do you usually go there?

Re: Suburbs - General Topics

I've noticed that it actually has happened quite a bit more frequently on the Green Line. I ride it daily from downtown to East Bank, and I've been checked at least 3 or 4 times (about once a month).

Re: Nicollet-Central Streetcar

Ok, so there's one failure pathology in which buses respond better than streetcars. Streetcars also have many advantages over buses. Focusing so single-mindedly on car blockages seems a little disingenuous. Why didn't we make these arguments when the street grids were being co-opted by freeways? "No...

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)

Well, the backup of trains inbound to Target Field caused extreme delays on outbound trains (both Blue and Green Lines), so I ended up walking a few miles to the U instead of riding. So at least I got some exercise out of the deal! Also, the announcements at the station indicated that the problem wa...

I'm at Government Plaza right now, and the westbound tracks are completely backed up. I see at least 4 trains sitting at each block from Gov Plaza to at least Nicollet mall. Anybody know what's going on?

Re: Stadium Parking Ramp Air Rights Development

Also, the comment regarding the Twins stadium having a better urban design just doesn't sit well with me. The stadium is hidden behind another stadium, surrounded by parking lots and a trash burning facility. Well, neither stadium can really control what their surroundings are, but I think that Tar...
