Re: Red Line (Cedar BRT)

I'm not sure that interlining the Red Line and the Cedar BRT is a good idea. A combined line would be around 70 minutes long, which could hamper reliability, and there would be such high turnover at MOA that the line might as well terminate there. I would imagine that there would only be a fraction ...

Re: Red Line (Cedar BRT)

Very few people are going to take the BRT to Cub and Walmart, mainly because there are few residences within walking distance of the Red Line, and that it is nearly impossible to live without a car in the suburban areas. The ridership will likely be those travelling from Apple Valley to Cedar Grove ...

Re: Blue Line (Hiawatha)

The 5000-series CTA cars now running on the Pink line show nothing but 54th/Cermak on the display. Unlike all other cars in the system, there is no indicator of which color line you're on other than the terminus. If you're familiar with the system this isn't a problem, but I can imagine it causes a...

Re: Bottineau Corridor (Blue Line Extension)

BRT was about to proceed with construction c. 2005, but they wanted to go back to the drawing boards for LRT. They were about to build the stations in North Minneapolis too.

Re: Red Rock

The problem with this line is the relative lack of demand to this part of the metro. There simply isn't enough population or demand for traffic to the cores to support the large investment in rail. St Paul Park and Newport have a combined population of 9,000, Cottage Grove has 35,000, and Hastings h...

Re: Shakopee Rail?

There is a line that runs roughly parallel to the Mississippi/Minnesota River. The line comes very close to Valley Fair and Canterbury Downs, but it is a few miles from the casino.

Personally, I think this is a terrible idea.

Re: Blue Line (Hiawatha)

Talk of an extension along Cedar Ave quickly died c. 2000 when the Cedar Ave Feasibility Study recommended BRT. I don't see any point in a southern extension of the Hiawatha Line, mainly because there is a severe lack of nodes and residential densities are relatively low. Even an extension along 494...

Re: Blue Line (Hiawatha)

I don't see why the ad wraps would have anything to do with replacing the signs. The description of the signs on the new cars sounds like they are just like the new Portland cars.

I wasn't too enthusiastic about this idea, also. It reminds me of that office building in Edina on 77th St at Hwy 100.

Re: Location of a 2nd International Airport?

MAC was talking about a new airport to be built in Apple Valley, but instead went with upgrading Lindbergh and Humphrey. Another good location for a new airport would be the ammunition plant in Arden Hills. The main questions are: Is a new airport necessary? Can the existing airport simply be expand...

Off topic now but I wonder what will happen to the building if Macy's does close. I remember a while back that Target was interested, and that would certainly be more of a catalyst than the aging Macy's.

Re: Uptown(ish) Goodwill

The Nashville one is awful looking, the Portland one quite mediocre. But if it will be three stories and have an office component it should hopefully look a little better. I just don't wanna see some cinder block with rough outside building.
