Re: Northeasterly Running Transit Corridor

Froggie has a scan on his website from the 1990 study. It looks like it uses a predominately public ROW.

Re: Northeasterly Running Transit Corridor

IIRC, back then, there were plans to build a LRT line along Central/University to Northtown or Anoka. There are some of studies and DEIS documents at the Central library 2nd Floor stacks.

Fantasy Transit Maps and Ideas

We had a thread about this on the old site, but it's now lost. A lot of the posts were from quite a while ago as well. Anyways, I'm making this thread because it would be cool to see what everyone thinks should happen for an ideal transit network in the Twin Cities. My plan: 1) Assumes Blue and Gree...

Park and Rides

A number of new park and rides are in the pipeline: 36/Rice St - 280 stalls, $2.8 million, opening in December. New Route 263 will provide 7 trips each way to Downtown Minneapolis. http://www.metrotransit.org/TransitArticles/Story.aspx?pageid=247&mid=395&articleid=1032 http://metrotransit.org/highwa...

Re: Transit Crime

I've never had any problems on the light rail. All of the misconduct I've seen were on various bus routes, with a good amount of those on the 5 line.

Here's a link to yesterday's CCLRT meeting presentation: http://www.metrocouncil.org/transportation/ccorridor/CCMC/2012/20120808PPT.pdf Loads of pics in there, Siemens cars 201 and 202 to be shipped soon, with another 6 in production. Lots of construction pics too. Went down University the other day...

Re: 35W Bus Rapid Transit Corridor

Currently the focus is on advancing the 35W & Lake St Station. The current recommendation is for a Concrete Box Girder bridge, costing appx. $19 million, with a construction schedule of 34 months (nearly 3 years.) I am unsure what the funding situation is on the entire project (all the other ramps, ...

Stations would certainly be expensive, then. I would imagine stop spacing would be in the 1 mile plus range.

Green Homes North

Looks like a city-sponsored scheme to build 100 houses on city-owned vacant lots across the northside. Hopefully this program can stabilize the neighborhoods and get rid of the empty lots.

Re: Lake & Nicollet

Well, there is the 35W BRT station planned, which will have a walkway to the greenway. Hopefully Nicollet-Lake doesn't get one of those awful bus stations like Chicago-Lake. There is a lot of room for larger sidewalks.

Re: Southdale

The new transit center is going to wrap around the edges of the parking ramp near JC Penney. The loss of the park and ride will likely mean a restructuring of the 578 and 579 bus routes. As for the design of the site of the apartment buildings, the layout leaves a lot to be desired. They really coul...

Re: Northstar

It's perfect for the typical 8-4 or 9-5 commute where you work downtown and drive to/from the park and ride. If you look at any of the high ridership bus lines (5, 10, 16, 18, etc) you will notice that a large proportion of the trips are not work related, but are more spontaneous trips and are more ...

A thread for Southdale Mall as well as other nearby developments not deserving of a separate topic. Discussion of One Southdale Place (69th & York) and the Southdale Transit Center is included in this topic. A few Southdale area developments have sprouted their own topics however: Lennar's mixed-use...

It looks like an upcoming amendment to the TPP will add Fremont-Emerson and Penn Avenues in North Minneapolis to the list of potential Arterial BRT lines. Probably a good idea, since buses run every 7 minutes on Fremont and every 12 on Penn. EDIT: Here's the link: http://councilmeetings.metc.state.m...

Re: What will it take to develop DTE?

I guess it depends on what the city and the people want. Do we want skyscraper offices or a neighborhood of 6 story condos? It will be difficult to draw residents in because of the proximity of the stadium and HCMC. The city needs to prioritize what they want for the area, then perhaps it will actua...

Re: Cedar and Franklin redesign idea

It would be nice to underground the light rail line along Cedar Ave with stations at Riverside and Franklin. The line would turn into the 122 trench (with traffic removed) with CCLRT and continue into a new downtown tunnel. I would also like to see Hiawatha changed into a surface alignment like the ...
