Re: Midtown Corridor Rail & Lake Street aBRT (B Line)

As for previous ridership, the Blue Line didn't have any direct predecessors, but reorientated the bus network to feed the light rail line instead of being so downtown focused. The Green Line replaced the 16 and 50 bus lines, which I believe had a combined ridership of ~18k per day. The best option ...

Re: Midtown Corridor Rail & Lake Street aBRT (B Line)

B Line meeting presentation posted: https://www.metrotransit.org/Data/Sites ... educed.pdf

Interesting is the mention of having more stops (compared to the A, C, D lines) on the B and E lines and eliminating the local bus service underneath.

Re: E Line Arterial BRT

A new map has been posted to the E Line website showing a recommended extension to Stadium Village, and further study on the option to extend to Westgate, as well to Southdale on the other end, via 44th/France or Xerxes. The original routing to West Lake station on the Green Line is no longer includ...

Re: A Line - Arterial Rapid Bus

I think the idea is that local stops are good for high school serving routes or trips, because the longer-distance demand is minimal.

High schools by themselves shouldn't be a big driver of arterial BRT. The demand really only exists at a very specific time in the day.

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings

The 3B provides additional service on Rice until Maryland. The added 62 service provided additional frequency a mile further north to Larpenteur on Weekdays, and two miles north to CR B on weekends. 3B service is every 30 mins on weekdays, and every 60 mins on weekends. 62 service before the CMAQ gr...

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings

The extra service on Route 62 was funded by a CMAQ grant. Ridership must not have increased enough to justify keeping the service.

Re: Green Line LRT

I'm surprised it lasted this long. Green and Blue should have night buses Sunday - Thursday and the 54 should be 24h. Morning shift at the airport starts in the 2-3 am hour.

Re: Ayd Mill Road

I think a two-lane AMR is a great idea. Considering that the ramps to/from 35E are one lane each, I'm not convinced that AMR needs two.

Cropped version from the EIS, available here:

It's really a much better solution than Selby to Snelling to 94.

The previously proposed AMR connection to 94 was along Albert St, which is industrial.

Re: Ayd Mill Road

I think Ayd Mill road is great for reducing traffic on surface streets. A good compromise would be to upgrade Ayd Mill and calm Snelling and Lexington with fewer lanes, maybe a Snelling bus lane, and high quality bike lanes. Ayd Mill can have reconfigured intersections at Hamline, Grand, and St Clai...

Re: Transit Crime

The smoking and homeless issues might have some overlap, but definitely aren't mutually exclusive. Some people are just jerks. Better enforcement of the rules will really help, but Metro Transit lacks station staff that can prevent a lot of this stuff from the start.

I believe that airport workers can get free/subsidized parking at Terminal 2, but not at Terminal 1.

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings

It looks like the 18 will stop on Nicollet at 3rd, then take Nicollet to Washington to 4th Av S, with the next stop and terminal on 4th Av S at S 3rd St. Buses go southbound by turning on S 3rd St, with a stop at 2nd Av S, then turning back to Nicollet. Stops are: - Nicollet/S 3rd St (NB) - 4th Av S...

Re: Arterial Bus Rapid Transit Corridors

Interesting. Thanks for prodding the question. So the answer is more of "let's spend the next 5 years doing studies, so nothing is actually implemented until the late 2020s at the earliest".

Re: Arterial Bus Rapid Transit Corridors

The Highway BRT lines really only make sense if there's some kind of active development pattern in the corridor. The 394 and maybe the 36 corridors really are the only ones that make sense from that standpoint. The Red Line essentially follows a freeway to a giant collection of strip malls. The othe...

Re: Arterial Bus Rapid Transit Corridors

The interesting thing about the "north" corridor that was identified is that it is actually the previously planned "North Central" commuter rail line to Bethel, and what is now the Northern Lights Express corridor. I would not imagine that a busway would actually be built in the corridor, but that t...
