Re: Rumors!

When I hear entertainment companies I can only think of things like Gameworks, Deja Vu and casinos. I've been trying to figure this out since you first said it, Avian. What are some other entertainment hypotheticals?

Re: New York City

I've heard about this empty station before. This plan may be far fetched, but it's pretty awesome!

Re: Grain Belt Terraces - (1215 Marshall Street Northeast)

Jersey barriers are up and they're digging here. This is excellent infill - it will be so nice to see some construction outside the St. Anthony Main area here in NE!

Re: Rumors!

The point is in Minneapolis we have many vacant parcels where the aspect ratio of a skinny skyscrapers would fit. It's a strategy to create dense infill with a large concentration of human activity occuring on a very small amount of lateral space. It's an efficient and creative way to fill up more ...

Re: Super Talls

If that wasn't enough, John, something could be in the works to bring the Chicago Spire back from the dead - my favorite supertall proposal of all time.

Re: Super Talls

I'm sure the first tall tower looks goofy in any city, but shots of Minneapolis from this era are so strange. It looks photoshopped and very out of place. IDS is the best building ever, though!

Re: Super Talls

Kinda like the IDS Center when it was built? I see what you mean, but I see nothing to criticize about this project reaching high rather than spreading the square footage out. OKC's economy is apparently doing quite well these days. That beast will soon get company.

Re: Star Tribune Blocks

I'm anti roof sign, and not very thrilled with all the exterior non-roof signage either. I agree with marty that this could open the floodgates. Other than Center Village, I can't think of many other lighted signs on the skyline. It's very nice compared with cities that are all logo'd up.

Re: Rumors!

Yes, that's the one. I'm surprised that they're going to put up their taller apartment building - rather than another 6-story beast - and I would imagine they'd like to go as tall as possible with this valuable land of theirs. Just a thought...

Re: Rumors!

Great info - thank you for sharing it! Could this be the big Hines office proposal coming back larger than the first rendering? I love the location, and it makes sense in terms of long-term planning with the area's growth trends and transit connections.

Re: University Avenue Traffic Lane Modification Study

I commute from NE to Plymouth and back (gross!) via 55 and Plymouth Avenue. I agree that everything from Marshall Avenue and over the bridge is great - and the changes work well for me coming back into the city. Those heading west on Plymouth in the afternoon out of the downtown area are the ones th...

Re: University Avenue Traffic Lane Modification Study

Yeah - go stand around the KSTP tower on University for a few hours someday, and tell me that it couldn't be handled by a single traffic lane. Rush hour might get tight, but (a) that's what happens in a city, and (b) I-94 is a hop, skip, and a jump to the south. That is very true, but there are som...

This is what I've feared all along - leaving the exterior largely as it is. It will leave the metro area (and our government) with a stadium to complain about, though. I think we need that.

No, the one just north of the University/4th Street exits. It's in terrible shape, and would be one pedestrian bridge worth making a bit nicer than the standard.

Re: The Bridges - (950 University Avenue SE)

I agree - that area is nothing like it was just a few years ago, and it makes a big impact from 35. Speaking of, I'd love to see that crumbling 5th Street walking bridge replaced with something more dramatic. It's in such sad shape that I can't imagine it remaining as-is much longer.

I don't see why a one-block park here is such a disappointment, but it's A-OK by the library.
