Re: Minneapolis Streetcar System

A DMU could roar away from the curb and a trolleybus could glide away too. You're justifying cultural feedback effects by pointing at misidentified differences. If we want the "image" of an urban city, then streetcars would do that. If we want to move people around, we could do more of that with bu...

Re: Northstar

As much as I hate to say it, I'm starting to come to the conclusion that Ms. Meeks might not be wrong on this one. The problem is, you have to either do your business or get off the pot, and they chose not to do their business properly to start with, and now they've been dawdling on the pot. This pr...

Re: Blue Line (Hiawatha)

I saw 104 out in service tonight, fully repainted as well. How many of them are repainted?

Re: Type II LRVs - Siemens S70

Meh, people praised the look of the Flexity Swifts eight years ago; some people get caught up in the idea that something needs to be up-to-the-minute to look good but the reality is that trends in what looks "contemporary" and "up to date" change just simply for the sake of changing, and the vehicle...

Re: Type II LRVs - Siemens S70

Funny one would describe the Type IIs as "pretty" - I think aesthetically they're a major step down externally, and internally they're maybe a slight improvement but still not terribly pleasing. With that said, I don't think aesthetics is a high priority for this sort of thing, and utility, ease of ...

Re: Type II LRVs - Siemens S70

I do legitimately think it would be a good idea to ditch the current cut-to-the-bone buzzer noises with nicer chimes. I'm fond of the SNCF jingle: [BBvideo 425,350]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sbDwzNN2PuA[/BBvideo] Wow, it's been a while since I heard that - yeah, that's much better than our bee...

Re: Type II LRVs - Siemens S70

I'm sure that they're all snazzy and new, but I think that I prefer the look of the old trains. They seemed more aerodynamic and fluid -- these ones feel a bit more boxy. The Bombardiers are French-Canadian; the Siemens are German. Of course the French ones were more aerodynamic and fluid; but the ...

Re: Introductions

Hey all, so I just became aware of this site. It looks like the old site actually *is* functioning again now; but since the traffic appears to be here now I guess that's moot. Anyway, good to see you all again. Several months without the site means it's not part of my routine, we'll see if I start p...
