Re: 2024 Olympic Bid?

I just saw this discussion. Surely there aren't people who've paid so little attention to the Olympic bidding process as to think it's a good idea to submit an Olympic bid, are there?

@mspbjhalter tweeted that MSP submitted 18 sites. What were our metro boosters thinking?! 🤦‍♂️
Side note, mspbjhalter is an incredibly funny user id, sounds very Lutheran.

Note that our two extensions are only mentioned once, together, for their per-mile cost of $120 and 130 million, as an example that it's very broad. All the other references to "Green Line Extension" in the article are to Boston's Green Line Extension.

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings

But is that really rail bias or just good transit bias? If the bus stops here had as clear of information as light rail stops, were big enough for both shelters and enough room to board, were long enough for the bus to pull up to the curb (a big pet peeve of mine), were spaced properly, and weren't...

Just say you're a non-traditional student. Or more likely you don't have to say anything - the University has plenty of students older than 22.

Re: Dinkytown

I tried Num-mi on Wednesday as was really disappointed. I'd been hoping this was a replacement for Bun Mi, but it's not anywhere near that. The bread was good, but the ingredients were meh, lacking flavor and not having a very good combination of vegetables. Another member of our group tried their P...

Re: Fiber Internet and TV Services, Cord Cutting

So, for a neophyte, why would one want a static vs dynamic IP? If you want to run services on your home system that are reachable from other places, you need to be able to know the address - and knowing it won't change makes that way more likely. For example, you can't (generally) map a domain name...

Not strange at all. Autonomous vehicles are today's PRT in that regard: a plausible-sounding reason not to do transit. Expect to hear a lot about it in upcoming legislative sessions.

Re: Roof Depot site

The small area plan suggests moving the 3rd Precinct police station on Lake Street to the roof depot site. I hope the city is considering this, as it would open up 3rd Precinct police station site for redevelopment, which includes several surface parking lots and a great corner site at the corner o...

I love the notion of a knee-jerk constitutional moratorium on legislative moratoria premised on their knee-jerk bad-faith approach to problems.

I meant to vote Hodges - Dehn - Frey but for some reason voted Hodges - Frey - Dehn so I guess I wasn't part of a camp. Actually I was a member of the "I like Betsy and I'll use my other votes to try and keep Hoch out of office" camp.

Re: Suburban City Councils, shenanigans

I think we can all agree that both RCV (no primary) and "Top 2" nonpartisan/"jungle" primaries are WAAAAY better than the current system we have for state and national partisan elections (first past the post, choosing the lesser of evils, reluctance to support 3rd party candidates, etc.) We need to...

Re: Minneapolis Mayoral Election 2017

Yeah, the exact number of combinations doesn't really matter. You could pretty much keep the ranking of voters in some sort of table or entry from first to sixth (or whatever) and once the first choice drops out, push their other ranks "ahead" so the "first choice" vote is actually a "current choic...

Sorry not sorry if this isn't the best place to post this, but I read an interesting article about Winnipeg discovering an unexpected (but predictable) downside of LED traffic lights - they have to be cleared of snow. http://www.cbc.ca/beta/news/canada/manitoba/winnipeg-led-traffic-lights-snow-1.437...

Re: Type II LRVs - Siemens S70

HuskyGrad, are you sure these aren't those? The numbers are still sequential in the 2xx range, but I'm not sure metro transit will treat the new variant as a type III - they're the same as type II except the seats, and some minor other details, so they may still be considered type II.

Re: Type II LRVs - Siemens S70

Too bad they don't have a video of the "C" section inside, which I think is the only difference between II and IIa vehicles.
