Re: MSP Airport

I wonder why they aren't starting before April 16, when thousands of Minnesotans, Sconnies, and Iowegians fly to and from Boston for the Marathon.

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

To me, this plan makes an awful lot of sense given current ridership, as long as they design it so that dedicated use can creep in to the shared segment as ridership patterns evolve.

Re: Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board

Yes, wanting to honor the Dakota from whom we stole is such a shameful place for us to be... Not dissimilar from tearing out the trees and naming the suburbs after them. More seriously, Lake Calhoun got that name at a time when everything was being named after white men who'd had big roles in settl...

Wow, reality left this post a while ago. How about midtown fantasies move elsewhere and this thread stick to the actual Riverview project?

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

Build the Riverview corridor as is, with a straight shot to the airport. Build the Midtown LRT Phase 1 from West Lake (Green) to Lake St. (Blue). Build the Midtown LRT Phase 2 from 46th Street to Sibley Plaza, so that Midtown ultimately runs from Hopkins to downtown Saint Paul. Problem solved. I'll...

Re: Los Angeles

So does anybody know LA reasonably well? I'm thinking of running the LA Marathon. Could I stay in Santa Monica and expect to be able to get into downtown via transit reasonably well? The Expo Line looks promising but the city has a reputation for being hard to get around without a car.

The speed is dictated by the tracks, not the bridge. The tracks are 65 foot bolted rail, if memory serves.

Not to be the dissenting voice, but in that rendering it looks like the grocery stores and k-marts of my childhood in the 1970s.

Re: Homeless tent city along the Hiawatha Bike Trail?

I've long been angry/frustrated about homeless people getting kicked out of lobbies, skyways, etc., especially in winter. Is it at all possible the city could pass some kind of ordinance forbidding this except in cases of bad behavior? Most if not all of the downtown buildings have security staff, ...

Re: Northeast (and Southeast) - General Topics

Off topic true story - in the mid 1980s my (largely Italian and Irish Catholic) scout troop got us summer camp shirts that were billed as "day glow green" but of course a bunch of middle schoolers immediately changed that. The Irish kids thought it was hilarious. The parents got really upset though.

Re: Northeast (and Southeast) - General Topics

Coming to Minneapolis from St Louis, I was shocked that a building would have that word painted in the side of it intentionally - in St Louis it's definitely an ethnic slur, and the Italian Americans take offense to it. Up here people don't know or don't care, I guess, but it shocked me.

Certainly could be a stalling tactic for funding, but actually I kind of doubt it. They already have a good portion of the money sitting there, and it would advance their position if they awarded some bids. These types of bids are really difficult, and if the bidders are wanting more information bef...

In an ideal world, where bicycle infrastructure is perfect http://i.imgur.com/OcBW0up.png Just think of how fast traffic could move on those wide boulevards with open sight lines. Those are some seriously wide ROWs, with no consideration for space. I hate it. I like cities, I like density. I'd rath...

Re: Lake & Nicollet Redevelopment (Kmart site)

I think we'd want to know 'the cost of "making whole" the rest of the property plus legal fees'. We as a city have spent a lot of money on things less worthwhile than this.
