Re: Gaviidae Common / Downtown YMCA

I believe it was being turned into apartments, but someone else may be able to confirm that.

Re: St. Anthony Village

I live just a couple of blocks away from this. The people displaced by this are still reeling and have had to rely on a lot of donations, help with finding housing, even trying to find higher paying jobs to support new housing. Luckily this is a fairly generous neighborhood. I never thought the trai...

I'd go just because they're non union. In my experience you get less service at a higher cost using the union, but you also get the bonus of dealing with a bunch of attitiudes to boot. An organization that outright roots for someone to fail and obstructs business if they don't use their services is ...

Re: Southdale Area Development - Edina

With the setbacks and vertical look to the building it doesn't have a hulking 15 story look to it. I think it would be a nice addition to the area. It's less bulky and imposing than the 7 story building next to L&B across the street.

Re: Northeast (and Southeast) - General Topics

Fresh Thyme is right there, there's an Advertising firm across the street as well as Aveda a couple of blocks away. There could be some desire from a business perspective. The hotel is only listed a 50 units. They won't have any walk-up business, but depending on how well they advertise at the U and...

Re: 228 S. 12th St.

This site has some real potential! I was wondering how long it would take before this building sold. It has been empty for years with several "opportunities", but nothing ever panned out. With the skyway to the convention center right there I'm a little surprised they aren't talking mixed use with s...

Re: Nicollet Mall Reconstruction Project

That's funny. Like they've given it any forethought...

Most of the sealers and impregnators would just wear off after time and make it look worse. Even honing it, like they have at Home Depot, wears after a while, especially when left to the elements.

They already have the DID to monitor and clean it if they could build it... (would probably qualify for Mike Rowe's "Dirty Jobs" show).

I wonder if the back corner from this view will be rounded as a nod to phase I? The top certainly has a look like the Alatus tower a couple of blocks away.

Re: Ritz Residences - 365 Nicollet Mall (334' - 30 stories)

Every time there's a discussion about funding bus service, I keep hearing that self-driving cars will be all the rage in just 5 or 10 short years. Given that DEFINITE REALITY and how it will eliminate the need for downtown parking, this concrete parking podium with its majority non-level decks will...

Re: Downtown Parking Facilities

If this place has been an auto repair shop for this long I am guessing there would need to be some soil remediation of some sort which would hamper any sale of this property, especially if it involves new development. The only way they give this property up is if the city takes it.

In the images I've seen it looks like they may be using a couple of courses on the corner. It's hard to tell if they are re-using the current stone or recreating the look for nostalgia sake.

Note: for archived discussion of this site (mostly a bunch of rumoring about a fake convention hotel, but also interesting conversations), see here: https://forum.streets.mn/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=407 I'm not sure how fake it was? There were studies done on developing a hotel on the site. In the end ...

Glad to see they're getting new seats. Hard to believe that the current ones are almost 20 years old. They are truly disgusting though!

I didn't think United Properties did "creative". They ignore both function and form and go for bland and inexpensive. I fully expect gray and looking like it belongs in a suburb.
