Re: MSP Airport
Are you using the NPR One app? I could see that one having location-aware audio, and Condor has been sponsoring MPR lately.

Re: Fridley - Columbia Heights - Spring Lake Park
The old location of the Fridley City Hall doesn't seem remarkably walkable either, though. Both are along the University branch of the 10, and the new location would have some trails going to it (for whatever that's worth.) The change doesn't really help walkability, but it doesn't seem to hurt it m...

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings
It's not even all that slow from downtown to downtown. The Green Line is scheduled for 41 minutes from Warehouse District to Central, and the 94 is 24 minutes from 6th/Hennepin to Minnesota/5th. 17 minutes slower for a lot of extra stops and more connectivity. I think some of the old 94 buses used t...

Re: Improving Metro Transit's urban bus service
The 114 - GL would be useful as well if someone didn't want to pay the express bus upcharge each day (or pay for the $3 pass vs. a lower-value pass.) If it saved $1.50/day and gave the benefit of rail for part of the route, I could see people opting for the 114 - GL option.

Re: "A Line" Snelling Avenue Arterial Bus
The "new" logo is about two years old at this point as well. The special Go To card for the opening of the Green Line has the new logo on it. I think some of the LRT readers have the new logo (not sure if it's all, though.) It seems strange to me that they would have the old logo on equipm...

Re: "A Line" Snelling Avenue Arterial Bus
I was taking the 84 yesterday and swung by one of the stations to see the progress. This was at the Har Mar Mall station. The ticket machines look a lot like parking lot machines. They aren't pictured, but I noticed that they appear to have solar panels on top. Interesting placement if that's functi...

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings
Why would the A line not be made into a night-owl route? It seems a bit silly to have an enhanced services route but not make it all night (especially when a few other routes are getting it.)

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail
It should be interesting to see how that plays into the argument for extending the Northstar line, if it does at all. At about a $200,000 subsidy per year, and with some extra cost for buses coming up, I could see some people stating that the money may be better spent investing in improvements to ge...

Re: MSP Airport
The other problem (at least right now) with PreCheck is that not all airlines participate in it. Frontier and Spirit are the big two out of MSP that I can think of, though there are surely others that don't participate.

Re: Northern Lights Express
Hey, and with a few more infrastructure improvements, guests could even WALK to the casino from the station. From the downtown station? I highly doubt it. Google shows a 2.3 mile walk. I may want to do that in a scenic area with no luggage one way, but not both ways with luggage. Most people who cu...

Re: Amtrak Empire Builder and Intercity Rail to Chicago
Question about sleeper policy on the Builder. I know that they don't allow randoms to just wander the train and get into the sleeper cars. But if I booked 4 coach tickets and 1 passenger in a family bedroom for the trip to Chicago (which is scheduled from 8AM to 3:30 PM) would those 4 coach passeng...

Re: Amtrak Empire Builder and Intercity Rail to Chicago
I've taken Greyhound, Megabus, Spirit, Southwest, and Amtrak on the MSP - Chicago segment. (Well, the Amtrak segment is usually to St. Cloud instead of MSP, but I digress.) I've also taken Megabus across country (DC to MSP and MSP to Atlanta) and taken Amtrak across country (MSP - the Northeast.) I...

Re: Hwy 610
The one advantage (as an outstate person) is that it makes it a lot simpler to get to a frequent park-and-ride (either Foley Blvd. or the Northtown Mall.) Most of the other ones in the northwest metro only are used around peak periods, and have little to no midday or weekend service. Yes, I know the...

Re: Saint Paul Union Depot
I have a hard time caring too much what the nay-sayers say. Despite the fact that it takes months to design and build a new signaling system with multiple railroads involved, they mocked Union Depot for lack of trains on opening day. I'd have to agree with the "nay-sayers" on the delay on...

Re: Northstar
Why would there be Link frequencies that don't connect to trains south from Big Lake? I bet any future frequencies would be coupled with extension of the train to St. Cloud, so it's a one-seat ride that can serve as a regional connector. This would probably increase ridership by multiples which wou...

Re: Northstar
I was bored a while back, and so created this mockup of what I would like to see Northstar offer in terms of additional service. It also fixes the issue where Link service doesn't run to every train. The goal is roughly every 2.5 hour service during non-peak times, with additional service during pea...
