Re: Xcel Energy HQ - 401 Nicollet

I'm wondering, are they going to slap some more ham/maroon paint on this sucker? It already looks beat up and washed out.

But we got this

LMAO! They couldn't even ring up sale items. The cashier was flipping through a barcode binder. I looked over my shoulder to see where 1998 was.

Re: Downtown East - Wells Fargo / Radisson Red / Edition Apt

I think if they painted the screening to match the crown it would appear less jarring. They are not finished with construction so there's still hope.
Yes. Right now, it looks like a penthouse dog park. Not that it's a bad idea.

And hot-desking is a whole other ball of wax, which is what I was reacting to in the original article. -1 And thanks mamundsen for the link to what the new, erm, Mel's Cargo workspaces will be like. It all seems pretty par for the course for new, corporate office environments. My contract ends tomo...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market

Many design/creative places go with this open format. And these places do attract a lot of Millennials, so there you go. I'm a bit older but contract in this field, and when I land in a wide open environment with everybody at one table, I just get antsy and ADD. Sure, there are "breakaway"...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market

Perkins+Will said their new office will have 50 non-assigned work spaces with no hierarchical restrictions. Co-work type spaces seem to be the newest trends and it looks to have people moving to the cities. I must be entering old-fart age, because I just hate this trend and personally want it to re...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market

I think the current one is flat with 4-5 revolving doors. Can't remember if it has a double entry for a thermal break. It's just the revolving doors and then you're in/out. As for the rest of the entrance, I'm trepidatious about big, structural changes. The one side of the entry is more airy incorp...

Re: 4Marq - 400 Marquette Ave (313' - 30 Stories)

Wait til the pigeon smears take hold! It could end up looking like one of Jackson Pollock's drip paintings ;) But seriously pigeons are becoming quite a problem downtown, especially on Nicollet Mall. At least the skyway glass between IDS and Macy's seems to be taking a few out, from the looks of th...

At least the window grilles/pane dividers are real. From a distance I thought maybe they were those stick-on strips.

Re: Xcel Energy HQ - (401 Nicollet Mall)

Now that the facade is going up, I'm seeing that they're going for the "Deli Meat Combo Platter" color scheme with the two buildings. Chicken, Pastrami, Honey Roasted Turkey, etc. Speaking of the pastrami/reddish panels on the new building, are they supposed to look patchy and faded? It's...

Or apartments for that matter. If the cladding on Nic on 5th falls off and smashes an LRT, do we say "Eh, C'est la vie, apartments. Thank god it's not condos or imagine the litigation!"

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block

What happens when an apartment complex turns condo? Are there any of these state laws applied then? I'd guess not, and the new association would have due diligence to identify the building's features that are going haywire and secure funds to fix.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News

It's time to pull the plug. The vibe at Macy's is always like the store is in some sort of hospice care. They hardly put any effort into refreshing the place, especially the lower level which feels like a morgue for bedding and crystal. This line has stuck in my head and always makes me chuckle, &qu...

Well, lets see. They let them expand on parkland and vacate two public streets. Totally treated like shit. Then they want more parkland to build on instead of using one of their numerous river adjacent surface lots. Must be tough.
