Re: Nic on Fifth - (455 Nicollet Mall)

^^ I would definitely assume ridership across the network would increase. Fun fact (says wikipedia...) the Hiawatha has the 6th highest daily boardings/mile of any LRT system in the country. Granted it's only one line, but I think that makes it even more impressive. Wonder how the new lines would ad...

Re: StoneBridge (2nd Street South & 11th Avenue South)

Viktor- you got it exactly. I see why the rental market is booming- it's by far the most economical option for anyone who is new to the market- boomers relocating from a single family, young people just starting out, relo's etc. But especially the younger generations- let's say you are in your late ...

Re: StoneBridge (2nd Street South & 11th Avenue South)

I see these thousands of apartment units as an introduction to downtown living. It will be interesting to see if all these new renters will want to eventually buy into the downtown area as well... I feel like it will. So I am very optimistic about a new project or two being announced later in 2013.

Re: Plymouth Building apartments

semi-side note, but the company my aunt worked for in the plymouth building is a jeweler that has been in the building for 62 years- they have gigantic 60+ year old walk-in safes that need to be removed... That in itself will be a construction/engineering nightmare

Re: Downtown Office Market

Not really, no. I saw an interview with someone at Ryan who guessed that is what was going to happen. But if we think of the possible WF/Ryan "campus" on the strib parking lots and the Hines building (which has gotten awfully quiet...) that would be close to that mark. Optimists would hope...

Re: My hometown: Columbus. Part 4: East Main Street.

There is a great website/community that follows development in columbus called columbus underground. Columbus is one of the other few cities in the midwest area that is growing and seeing lots of urban renewal. The metro area is not as large as MSP so the scale is a little different but still some c...

Re: Plymouth Building apartments

^^ One thing to keep in mind is that class A office space has low vacancy rates in a down economy because as rental rates drop across the board, it becomes feasible for companies to afford prestigious class A space. I guarantee as the rental rates continue to creep up as the general economy (hopeful...

I've been in this building many times- My aunt worked in it for 25+ years... beautiful building but it will need a ton of work from what I remember.

Re: Downtown Office Market

The article also says that demand in high-profile class A buildings is high. The lower floor A and B class space is the stuff that is not absorbing. That can mean that a sparkly new sexy building still would have demand from those high end tenants. I don't look into this news at all.

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)

It should also be noted that the higher density areas in the metro area already have public transportation options while much of that SW corridor does not. Expanding the public transportation customer base if you will. You are right, there are more good ideas then money. I am happy to see that LRT, ...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)

Yes, for the near term (and probably beyond) places like EP will be car-centric. However, I think that ridership on an LRT would be very good. It's disingenuous to say that other projects should take priority because who cares about suburbs? If you are serious about making a whole metro area use pub...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)

Couldn't they save some cash by ending it at SW Station rather than Mitchell? One would think so... but then again there is a ton of land on mitchell that is just waiting for development. I'm sure eden prairie would prefer it to end there so that area could be sold off to developers as a more high ...

Re: Vikings Stadium

They can't deflate the roof in pieces. That's an event worth a balloon release, at least. Maybe rent a bouncie castle for the kiddies.
One would think they could capitalize on it a little bit- i'm sure some jason stathom movie could use a dome to destroy before we actually demolish it properly

Re: Vikings Stadium

By the way, I finally discovered the awesomeness that is the Minnesota Distance Running Association's Tuesday and Thursday evening running sessions at the Metrodome. For a dollar you can run the upper concourse, which is 3/8 mile per loop. On a cold February day it's much nicer to run 6 miles in th...

Re: Loring Park Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)

When I talked to Brian Gordon (Project Manager) a few months back, Magellan wanted to have a webcam on the nearby school. I'm sure the school district would've had to approve it. Perhaps, they're going to wait till spring to install it, if it was approved. Otherwise, I'm sure they'll try to find an...

Re: 2024 Olympic Bid?

I wouldn't hold our breaths for a MSP Olympics. Too expensive and unless you are a city that can recoup money spent via tourism (Hello Rio!) not sure if it can ever make the money back. I love the idea of Denver winter olympics. I think that will be the next US olympics. Denver has amazing public tr...

Re: StoneBridge (2nd Street South & 11th Avenue South)

They're up to 32 units sold as of yesterday. Wowzers. I do not have any experience in sales, but doesn't this seem to be selling extremely fast? I have a freind looking to buy a condo downtown, and she is having a real hard time finding anything at all. Has to be a good sign for future development....
