Shriners Hospital for sale
The Shriners Hospital on East River Road (near the Short Line Bridge) is for sale. The website says "Shriners Hospital is ideally situated on over 10 acres between downtown Minneapolis and St. Paul one mile away from the University of MN main campus. The private campus feel is perfectly positio...

Re: Gateway Tower (RBC/Four Seasons) - 37 stories - 503'
Much as we all dream policies change in a process of elections and rational proposals and reviews, they probably more often change in processes like this. Just as RBC really shouldn't care too much about the sign (who picks their wealth mgmt company based on a sign seen from afar?), losing this prop...

Re: Gateway Tower (RBC/Four Seasons) - 37 stories - 503'
It's a little weird that the Gold Medal Flour and Grain Belt beer signs are beloved all around, and at least in the case of the Gold Medal Flour sign must have received public money to still be there, but no, we can't have any more.

Re: Gateway Tower (RBC/Four Seasons) - 37 stories - 503'
Hopefully this will be the end of the silly sign ordinance. Lots of places around the world manage to have business names on towers in neon and survive. Minneapolis will too. Totally precious and provincial.

Re: MSP Airport
Funnily enough the service started after the handover. However, air services is one of the areas that Hong Kong essentially retains jurisdiction over, and they have more liberal rules than the mainland (not hard). Because of this a lot of airlines talk separately about HK and mainland China service....

We need more active alley type spaces like this in Minneapolis. Perfect place for a coffee shop or cocktail bar.

The strangest one is Minneapolis Ave, a pokey little diagonal two block street in Seward.

Re: Minneapolis 2040 Comprehensive Plan
I shared this anecdote over on NUMTOT, and I'll share it here again. In Prospect Park in March there was a freakout about the fourplex proposal. Renters! Livability! A group of us in the n'hood worked the association's committees and processes, and in the end the neighborhood's submission to the cit...

Strangely, no-one has been too concerned about the views from that angle.

Re: Art and Architecture Building Redevelopment - 3338 University Ave SE - 14 Stories / ~155'
The view of downtown Minneapolis is good from the tower, but surprisingly similar from the base of the tower. I've always been a little underwhelmed by the other directions. It's tree cover, and crappy industrial land in Saint Paul. Oh, and 280. https://flickr.com/photos/83033999@N00/sets/7215769577...

Yes, they're installing solar panels over the parking lot, and on the vacant field that used to be the art building.

Re: MSP Airport
What he said. However, the runways at MSP are long enough and our winds light enough at times (i.e. drag and lift from the wind are not as much of a factor) that tailwind landings are seen. (See this dated thread on airliners.net that refers to DC-10 and 747 use, but point stands). You do see takeof...

Re: Hiawatha-Minnehaha Avenue Development & Grain Elevators/Freight Corridor
While it's not exactly vogue around here to wish for large/expensive condo units (rather than an apartment building with more, smaller units), my preference on this site would be the expensive condos, because it would likely mean higher quality building materials. I wish for more large expensive co...

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings
I think the Raymond Avenue numbers are a good indication people are shifting their modal use. Someone on twitter posted about some absurd inflation of property values in the area. Absurd in the sense that there's clearly demand for housing, and it might not be being met.
