Re: Pedestrian Safety and Infrastructure Improvements
So a pedestrian crossing sting was setup in Chicago. First time I've ever seen that happen. May seem like a waste of resources to some, but there is definitely a need for it. I am constantly competing with cars who plow right into crosswalks at stop signs. I don't even bother trying to cross at cros...

Re: Rumors!
After getting back from Chicago for a few days of fun, it is nice to hear this rumor. The architectural boat tour on the Chicago River is simply mind blowing with the amount of towers the city has, and if we can just get a few more... or even just this one... it will help to come home and not be so...

Re: Junction Flats - (643 Fifth Street North)
I image that other buildings will continue to go up around it. But that gas station. I would not want to live next to a gas station, especially on busy weekend nights. Traffic, noise, THAT car wash. Maybe not the units overlooking the station anyway.

Re: Target Field Station
I think it's fine. If they can put a ticket reader/swiper at the top of the stairs and to the left, I would be completely happy with it.

Re: Introductions
Minneapolis metro is ~3.2 million and Chicago metro is ~9.5 million, so by that metric Minneapolis is 1/3 the size of Chicago, not 1/5. With that said though, the densely urban parts of Minneapolis are quite small compared to the vast densely-urban parts of Chicago. One benefit we get in exchange f...

Re: Car Sharing
I'm probably projecting a little too much of my own usage patterns into car2go's business model, but I see car2go as aiming somewhat at a market of people who already have a car in the household. The car2go lets one adult separate from the rest of the family when necessary to get somewhere quickly ...

Re: Introductions
the pizza is pretty damn good here If you think so, that confirms the inferiority of Chicago "pizza." As a transplant from the east coast, I'll agree that Minneapolis does feel small at times. Ha! I won't take the bait for the pizza feuds. I've had great slices in many states. Florida bei...

Re: Introductions
Thanks, Grant. Small relative to Chicago. Cook County, in which Chicago resides has 5 million people alone. When you get into the second ring burbs, it's even larger. It's a far different beast. That being said, this isn't podunk and has never felt like it. Small, in this case, isn't a bad thing. Mo...

Re: Introductions
Hi! My name is Chava. I've been sneaking in and posting for quite some time now. I moved to Minneapolis from Chicago at the beginning of March and am in the North Loop neighborhood. Having spent over 30 years in Chicago, I am reevaluating what it means to live an "urban" lifestyle now that...

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)
It seems the issue (in general) is actually the use of "outdoor voice" and general rudeness/selfishness, rather than the specific language, no? Sure, nobody wants their children subjected to vulgar language of any kind (racial or not), but if everyone using public transit could simply use...

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)
Interestingly enough, the behavior I've seen on transit here has shocked and offended me more than anything I ever saw on late night weekend rides on the CTA Red line in Chicago. A ton of hostility, and the ever pervasive profane language. Not sure what it's all about. I did see more drivers put a s...

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)
This might be a good opportunity to advocate for full signal priority. It's hard to be critical of a billion dollar investment for being slow, when we deliberately chose to let it wait at red lights. Are there any downsides to giving it full signal priority with possible intentions of replacing the...

Interesting. I suppose I've never been attuned to gentrification in suburban areas, but totally possible. Thanks.

http://www.startribune.com/opinion/commentaries/263553131.html I guess we need to give them a month or so to figure this all out, but honestly, they did have something like nine months where they were (supposed to have been?) doing testing. As someone who periodically takes/took a 94 at night or on...

Re: Gentrification
I'm new in town. Where is gentrification happening in the Twin Cities? I'm from Chicago so I know what it begins to look like there, but I haven't put my finger on what to look for here since the makeup of neighborhoods is quite different here.

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)
Holy cow it's the 3rd day of operation, 8 minutes off ain't bad 8 minutes behind on a stretch that's supposed to be 16 minutes-- with good weather, no traffic, and light ridership-- IS BAD. bad, bad, bad. I'm optimistic they'll fix it, but my experience was pretty darn frustrating. 13.5 minutes fro...

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)
I rode the train this afternoon-- it took 24 minutes to get from Target Field to TCF Bank Stadium in the middle of the day, with good weather and no traffic. The transit schedule says it should take 16 minutes. Hey Grant, Cut the Cheetah some slack. 8 minutes could mean the difference between hitti...
