Re: Uptown-LynLake-Wedge - News & General Topics
You’re focusing on H&M specifically. I’m talking about the bigger picture. Even in the unlikely scenario that H&M leaves and is replaced by a MartinPatrick3 equivalent, is that actually a good thing? If anything it’s doubling down on the retail trends we’re supposedly trying to move on from....

Re: Uptown-LynLake-Wedge - News & General Topics
The point is that H&M is a popular and useful store for people in the demographic that has typically defined Uptown. If it leaves, what's replacing it? And how does that make Uptown a more appealing neighborhood? People keep talking about Uptown as being in a transition from destination retail t...

Re: Uptown-LynLake-Wedge - News & General Topics
I don't see how H&M leaving could be spun as anything but a negative. If the neighborhood can't support a popular store that sells affordable, trendy clothes geared toward young people, what even is Uptown?

Re: Transit Crime
Not to downplay real concerns, but I found that article to be lacking data on the actual crimes being committed against these employees. "By the time I finish the text [for help], I could be bleeding to death," Hansen said. "There just aren't enough police on the trains." Reading...

Re: MSP Airport
People always freak out when they hear about those short flights, but clearly they're not intended for someone to go from Eau Claire to Minneapolis for the weekend. I've flown into places like Eugene, Oregon (via Portland) and Colorado Springs (via Denver), which are roughly the equivalent of the Ea...

Re: Hennepin Avenue Reconstruction (Douglas to Lake St)
They should compromise by allowing citizens to report bus lane parking violations and be rewarded with 20% of the towing fine. Report by app that takes the photo submitted. Violation reports go directly to towing companies who compete to tow first, the conservative small government types in control...

For like 97 percent of the metro taking the bus there would be a giant pain in the ass too, tbh.

Or maybe I’m overstating the amount of worked up based on like two people I follow on Twitter who are very worked up right now.

Re: Hennepin Avenue Reconstruction (Douglas to Lake St)
As someone who hasn’t really followed this and doesn’t have any skin in the game, can someone explain why people are so worked up about this? On its face it doesn’t seem that unreasonable for transit to share the road with other cars during non-peak hours.

Re: George Floyd murder and aftermath
Frontline and the Strib have a new doc about Minneapolis policing etc. on May 31. Tbh there has been a lot less documentary stuff from the riots than I expected (unless I missed it?).

Re: Raymond Station area developments
The new building on the U.S. Bank space has the brick exterior finished (or mostly finished), and date I say the intersection of Raymond-University actually feels like you're in a city. A few more parking lots to go to the southeast, but this is one area that's really changed since the light rail ca...

While we're talking St. Anthony Main, if you haven't seen "Untamed Heart," the 1993 Christian Slater classic, you should find it. An underrated Minneapolis classic. Anyone familiar with the area can identify his apartment right away.

Re: St. Anthony Main - General Topics
A circular walking route could go a long way. Almost any time you go to the Stone Arch Bridge there are people there, many of them clearly visitors, but most seem to walk across and then turn back. The problem is that the Hennepin Bridge isn't a leisurely walk like the rest of the area. Also, the St...

Re: St. Anthony Main - General Topics
Running through St. Anthony Main this weekend I was reminded that the old Vic's space is somehow still vacant, but according to this (super long) list of restaurant openings it is soon to be something called Pizza Shark. https://www.startribune.com/restaurant-roll-call-the-latest-closings-and-openin...

Re: Izzy's Ice Cream Factory
Anyone know what the deal is with this place? With the unique design I would have thought the company owned this building, but they seemingly make the ice cream somewhere else now and as far as I know the building on Gold Medal Park is unused. You'd think the location alone would make it a prime spo...

Re: B Line Lake St Rapid Bus, Midtown Rail Transit
:ugeek: The "bike lanes" on the Lake-Marshall Bridge are really just narrow shoulders. Couldn’t the narrow shoulders be converted to bike lanes, or are the shoulder needed for some reason? I don’t think the Franklin Avenue Bridge has shoulders. You could narrow the traffic lanes by a few ...

There are bike lanes on the Lake Street bridge now but nobody uses them, biking on the protected sidewalk instead.

Re: Saint Paul - General Topics
I'm not sure it'd really be a win for a bunch of small storefronts to close for redevelopment when there are miles of parking lots waiting to be developed across the street.
