Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News

I hadn't been through this section of the skyway in a while. It looks like they aren't going the Macy's route, and will be having the skyway passage outside the store, so they skyway hours aren't bound by the store hours. Big thumbs up, even though I do still hope that this is a 24-hour store, or at...

Sounds like a good reason to get rid of a whole bunch of the closely-spaced stops.

Re: Nye's Redevelopment - 100 block of E Hennepin Avenue

According to the twitter, apparently the renderings shown at the NIEBNA neighborhood (which apparently are new and have not seen public light?) were so drastically different from what has been shown before that the group felt hoodwinked (so to say) and withdrew support. I'd be curious to see the re...

Workers have opened up the skyway connection hole in the Nic on Fifth. Looks like that skyway will be going up soon.

Re: Road Crime

I'm sorry you had a bad experience. That doesn't really explain the "cyclists are all lawbreaking nuisances!" line that gets trotted out every time a bike lane is suggested, though. I almost got hit last night by a car that came to a complete stop at a stoplight, waited three seconds, the...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure

If they just need to do this to say they provided a legal way for this movement to occur. Probably this. I don't bike through campus very much now that I've moved, they don't really enforce the bike boxes and uselessly long crosswalk stoplights, on Washington, do they? Other than that, it looks rea...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

I guess we'll see what numbers they come up with, but I'm not convinced that plan will save enough money. As I understand it, the stations aren't the expensive part, building the viaducts over swamps and whatever is. But, it would be good if they can make it work. If we're going to spend a billion a...

I'm kinda in a similar situation as pre-move FMP. My apartment complex was built as luxury apartments, and now commands more mid-range rents, but the pool still works just fine. I'd imagine the pet grooming station has even lower maintenance costs, so that'll probably stick around too.

I don't really expect it to take too long to build out the Sports Authority. It's not like the Saks, where they have to build vertical circulation that wasn't there before. What was there before? Its been empty as long as I've been in Minneapolis.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map

Fun idea: Bobby and Steve's can move their store into the historic buildings they own and tear down their old store if they want more parking. Doesn't this area fall into the "no new parking downtown" district? If I'm reading this map correctly (I might not be, I'm kinda colorblind), it i...

Re: West Broadway Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

While admitting that I know basically nothing about North Minneapolis and what's best for that community, the more I think about streetcars, the more I think there's no particularly good reason to do them over aBRT. In a vacuum, streetcar would win, but aBRT is so much cheaper for service that's alm...

It is the busiest transit station in the Metro Transit system. I could easily see a convenience store or coffee shop down there. And a Subway, since they can apparently survive anywhere.

I wonder if it would be feasible to levy some sort of additional tax on storefronts that have sat empty for some amount of time. (1+ years?)

Probably not.

I was a middle-schooler in rural southern Minnesota when the Blue Line opened, so I have no idea what bus service was like on Hiawatha before that. I had assumed that it replaced the previous route 55 like the Green Line replaced the 50, but I guess not. Learn something every day.
