Re: Cheap groceries and walkability

Yes, it's so nice to have a grocery store that close. Longfellow Market almost serves as our pantry. I love that I don't have to drive to a grocery store and can be there in a minute or two. I frequent Longfellow knowing that I will pay more for some products, but also knowing that I am supporting a...

Re: Cheap groceries and walkability

I'm very interested to see what small grocery goes in the Rainbow building at East Lake and 27th Ave S. That will be a walkable grocery for those coming in from the east. Of course there is already Longfellow Market, but I wouldn't place them in the cheap category. They have reasonable prices for ma...

Re: Hi-Lake and Minnehaha Mall Area (Target, Cub, etc.)

Additionally filling in the Minnehaha/Lake corner with street front retail could really add to Downtown Longfellow. Long-term dream I guess, blocked by miles of red tape That would be amazing. A little strip with retail maybe some other fast casual type restaurants like a Noodles & Company or s...

Re: Hi-Lake and Minnehaha Mall Area (Target, Cub, etc.)

I ended up making a late night stop at Hop Wong last Saturday. They are moving to the 2900 block of Chicago Ave. They gave me the specific address, but I don't have it with me. They will still deliver over to Longfellow. I believe they are moving this week, if they haven't already moved.

Re: Hiawatha-Minnehaha Avenue Development & Grain Elevators/Freight Corridor

If projects like the U-Haul proposal are the best we can do along here and the railroad is eventually turned into a greenway, a nice compromise would be something like this along the greenway side of these storage buildings: https://www.google.com/search?q=urban+green+walls&espv=2&tbm=isch&a...

Re: Hiawatha-Minnehaha Avenue Development & Grain Elevators/Freight Corridor

Here's definitely a case where I would like to argue against maintaining the character of the neighborhood. They made sure to get the freight cars in their rendering. This is not something that would go nicely with the Min Hi Line plans along this waning rail corridor.

Re: Hi-Lake and Minnehaha Mall Area (Target, Cub, etc.)

According to Strib journalist Nicole Norfleet, all current tenants have found new locations, including Hop Wong. I will have to get over there soon and ask where they will be moving.

Re: Southside - General Topics

Noticed Taylor's Star 1 Automotive looked closed and empty this morning. Minneapolis PropertyInfo page shows property was sold on March 3 of this year. The selling price is listed at 1,750,000.00, I think that includes the automotive shop on the corner and the warehouse/office building to the south....

Re: Metro Transit fares

Just so I understand correctly, are these end prices per month for unlimited rides per month or is this for a set total amount on the card per month? I'm very jealous of you all.

A battery-powered electric wheel that fits into any bike, converting it into an electric bike. Plus USB port to charge devices, tire made of foam to prevent flats. http://yahoonewsdigest-us.tumblr.com/147791803259 Very cool! Would love to have this to switch on say going east on the Mendota Bridge ...

I also thought they were construction related and assumed they were locked, based on the condition of the station most mornings this past winter.

So with no company subsidy, right now the pass would be $76.00 for unlimited rides during 1 month, right?

Thought about the street car option for this project or other street car lines, maybe Greenway line, using this technology someday here in Minneapolis/St. Paul:

Re: Metro Transit fares

How many people here have employers who participate in the Metropass program? Has anyone ever successfully lead a charge to get their employer to participate? I'm trying to get mine to do so. Any tips?

Andy Sturdevant's The Stroll

Anybody else jonesing for more Andy Sturdevant and his The Stroll articles? He wrote his last one a month or so ago. Does anybody know what he is up to now? Re: Star Tribune

Yep, think I'm going to do the $1.09/wk Sunday plus digital too.

The paywall doesn't seem to work at all on my work computer, I can read well over 10 articles in a month there, during my lunch break of course ;) and no paywall. On my phone it seems like it pops up before I have reached my limit.

Re: Star Tribune

Anybody else get an offer to subscribe to the Strib in the mail recently? I think they were offering $0.99/week for the Sunday paper and $1.09/week for the Sunday paper plus 7 day digital access. 26 week subscription. They had a third option, but don't remember what it was. Is this about a low as it...

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings

I would think some sort of commercial partnership at Hi-Lake on the ground level would have a nice impact on livability at that station. There really isn't a lot of room up on the platform, so I agree that would be difficult. I don't think it would even have to be food related, but thinking outside ...
