Re: Permit Parking

Well, if the meters are enforced lets say until 2 am, what will tenants do? Run and plug the meter all night? Not very practical if you need to be at work at 8am. If the meters are only enforced until 6pm as most are, it does not solve the issue of bar and restaurant patrons taking up most of the sp...

Re: Permit Parking

I'm not sure if meters would work with bar and restaurant times.

Re: Permit Parking

My building in the north wedge has 38 tenants and 2 off street parking spots. Although many of us do not have cars, there is always a fight for parking with all the bar and restaurant patrons and staff. When friends visit they usually have to park 3 to 4 blocks away. I would love to have the little ...

"Because it looks over the lake and is historical and classy." I thought David was asking why someone would pay that much to live in Elan, not the Beach Club.

Re: Permit Parking

When I first moved into my apartment 11 years ago there always seemed to be street parking near by. I don't drive but would see open areas most of the time and my visitors never commented on any difficulties. Now that several restaurants have opened up with limited/valet/no parking lots it is next t...

Re: Boarding Houses

There are many current boarding houses in Minneapolis. In my general neighborhood I can think of at least four, all very well maintained from the outside, in cool old houses. When they changed the boarding house rule many were grandfathered in. By re-legalizing it would offer better control of "...

Re: Going car-free

I have never owned a car and I'm almost 40. Never had a problem except maybe kitty litter purchasing in the winter. Haha. I am very social and never have issues getting out to meet friends. Just a bit more planning.

I never understood how restaurants can get away with not giving servers/cooks sick days. Who would ever want anyone sick handling food!

Re: Theater Garage Marquee Apartments - (Franklin & Lyndale)

There was a lawsuit filed on behalf of the Greenleaf building, I am not sure of all the details but there was an issue of using substandard materials. Stick construction only has a 7 year depreciating value so I don't think the lawsuit went forward.

Re: Theater Garage Marquee Apartments - (Franklin & Lyndale)

I think it probably has more to do with Gerberding's law troubles. I know I would not want to invest in a project with a developer in multiple lawsuits.

Re: Uptown Retail News

Rising property taxes and rising rent prices have been the cause of many of the retail closings in the area as well as many of the vacant retail spaces. Basic business 101 - if your expenses are more than your revenue you have a problem. I don't know what is confusing about that.

Re: Uptown Retail News

From Minnesota Monthly "Doug Denham, who has long managed day-to-day operations of the store, shared the sad news with me today via email, citing the raising of property taxes in the Lyn-Lake area, which he says “tend to squeeze out independent retailers,” as well as the constant construction o...

Re: Grocery Stores

There used to be many bodegas in the uptown/wedge area. They all have closed, torn down, or changed into other retail. I wish we could have kept a few around.

Re: Uptown Restaurant News

"On that note, this is retail we're talking about, not restaurants."
This was in reference to -"Don't they already have a Cowboy Jack's (and/or Wild Bill's) in every other suburb? "
Not saying that suburbanization of uptown is a problem, it just is the current trend.

Re: Uptown Restaurant News

It seems to me that most of Uptown is suburbanized with all the mall type stores and the same developments you see in the burbs. Can't really tell the difference any more.

Re: Permit Parking

I agree with Chef. I live on Franklin and most of this buildings have very little parking if at all. I see so many people park on the little street that turns from Aldrich to Bryant that are just going to the area bars and restaurants. I don't drive but I know neighbors get very frustrated that they...

Re: Uptown Restaurant News

I find it interesting that these "Trendy" places are constantly opening and closing, but the more dive type places have been running 40+ years.
