Re: Twin Cities' National and Global Image
You know what's going to attract that millenial from Seattle?
Greyhound bus to Mankato
Good thing we already have it, I'm sure all of Seattle will move here in no time!

So "Make It MSP" is a thing now. Not a ton of information, or anything particularly interesting yet. https://www.greatermsp.org/resources/make-it.-msp.-initiative-updates/ http://www.bizjournals.com/twincities/news/2015/10/13/greatermsp-launches-campaign-to-attract-workers.html http://www....

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects
NO WAY we want general fund for transit. It needs a dedicated tax. Having a dedicated tax for highways but not transit is how we got ourselves into the current mess in the first place. General funds to transit does not provide the reliable funding source FTA wants to see. No transit sales tax bump,...

That's because you're supposed to bring up the public subsidies later, after all the papers have been signed! /snark
In seriousness, at least the improved infrastructure will be helpful.

Re: Black Lives Matter, The Police, etc.
They are separate things, fullstop. Some people would have been more inclined towards violence due to the circumstances involved, and if protesters had laid in the way, some runners may have accidently tripped over them, potentially dangerous for both runners and protestors. They are separate things...

Re: Black Lives Matter, The Police, etc.
I think there is some underestimating of the mental and physical state of people at the end of their marathon race. Not all are as clear thinking as when they started the run and their physical health is far from stable as when they begin. This could go poorly if some try to lay down in front of th...

This. It shouldn't be a problem as long as the ads aren't intrusive. It's something they'll have to work on too, considering adblock is even coming to Apple products now.I'm fine looking at ads. I refused to be tracked through ads. Big difference.

Re: Black Lives Matter, The Police, etc.
Bringing us back to "running a marathon makes you more likely to behave violently". The claim Anondson says nobody is making. It's because you keep framing it in a disingenuous way. Cut the motte-and-bailey crap already. "Given the evidently fragile, potentially violent mental state ...

Re: Black Lives Matter, The Police, etc.
There is well over an order of magnitude more people involved (two, actually), and there is no two-ton death cage between the two sides. Plus, while I may have been overly conservative in making my point, in situations that are already bad, it isn't helpful to further tack on factors that inhibit ju...

Re: Black Lives Matter, The Police, etc.
I thought that it was implied that with thousands of runners, there would be at least a handful who would want to actually finish enough to potentially lead to conflict. Remember that driver who drove through that BLM protest on the freeway?
Why is this even a point of contention?

Others see these people questioning the strategies as part of the problem This is something that has got to stop, as it's used to shut down dissenting viewpoints in conversation. Luckily, it's not as bad here as it has gotten elsewhere (no one has been outright labelled anyone else a racist/misogyn...

I looooooooooove The Awl eh, is theawl supposed to be satirical or something? I can't really tell. If anything, O'Malley is staking out the territory of Vice-presidential attack dog, if his performance at the DNC meeting here is any indication. Doubt it. If either Clinton or Sanders become the nominee, I'd say there's at least a 50% chance they choose a person of color (and/or woman, if Bernie) ...

That's what I quoted earlier. kek, I missed that there was an entirely new page, and ended up reading only the bottom few posts, though the video summary will probably still be helpful for some here. Edit: And it should be noted, that too much disruption can be very counterproductive. One only need...

Disrupting a marathon also carries negative connotations due to the whole 'Boston Marathon Bombing' thing.
