Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News
I felt similarly about the wintertime dining here. It was fantastic food, but also really hardy (maybe not all of it, but the stuff i liked was, like the schnitzel). I'm gonna miss that schnitzel! Since this conversation keeps going I'll offer this -- Brasserie Zentral was fantastic and one of the f...

Re: Mall of America - Bloomington
They need to bring more fountains in. People love to sit and watch fountains. They relax and spend more money. The one they added at the old entry to the mall is really small. They need to put a giant one in the new part of the mall. One of my favorite memories as a child in the late 70s was when a...

Re: Target Center Renovation
I'm not seeing the beak theme on the main entrance... and I kind of want to. :D I like the Alternate Signage option on the last two pages. It's better integrated onto the building surface. The other option looks like a billboard that has been stuck on. I looked at the renderings before reading the t...

Re: North Loop Neighborhood
They plan to close on the purchase of the land by the end of the year, with a construction start date in January 2016. Regarding 314 N 6th Ave - I'm guessing they're still on schedule. The 6th Ave garage doors of the existing warehouse are open nearly every morning - a week ago it was full of stuff...

Some of you may have noticed, Black Sheep in the North Loop is expanding to include the below-grade space next door, and will include a full bar and "grilled food" (so, burgers?). I hope the bar menu is heavy on the bourbon.

Re: North Loop Neighborhood
I think I found some plans for the old Gardner Hardware building. http://themaytagbuilding.com/ The site has some renderings and drawings with renovation ideas. A preliminary plan review permit was pulled on 12/2 by AWH Architects (per the City of Minneapolis site). It'll be nice when this building ...

Re: Mall of America - Bloomington
I think the airport isn't visible due to the angle of the photo. Here are a few aerial photos from 1960. The current airport terminal was under construction in 1960 (the MSP site says construction started in 1958, and it opened in 1962); the runways and old airport are visible in the photo. Stadium:...

Re: National Marrow Donor Program HQ - 524 5th Street North
Oh look, a 'whimsical' art piece. The art piece also seems to make noise. I walked by a few weeks ago and the wall near it was humming various sounds. I don't think it was music.. There are parts of this building that have turned out better than I feared. The line of light above the 3rd floor, the ...

I don't know how successful this new opposition will be, but I'd encourage people to write to support this to help counteract them. It would really piss me off if they somehow killed this. On another note: am I the only one who reads a bit of snark in the StarTrib article about the 7- and 9-story bu...

They look to have most of the windows in for the upper floors except for 3 that will probably be used for dump chutes on the south end. The ground floor will probably be boards until the end of the 1st quarter. They are rebuilding the loading dock now, not sure if they are using part of the space u...

Bunkers has posted on its Facebook page saying "Protect Bunkers" "Respect the warehouse district" and to contact Jacob Frey "to oppose the 11 story development" next door.
Huh.

Re: Western Container Building - 500 3rd Street North
The existing loading dock structure has been completely ripped out and you can see into the basement passing by. I guess it was too unsound to repair and they'll completely redo it. Going by their renders they'll still have this architectural feature though which is nice to see from a historic pres...

My goodness. Restaurant and office build-outs don't happen in a day, and even though the announcements have all been made that doesn't mean they're ready to start. There are building permits, ordering materials, getting them delivered, lining up multiple contractors, scheduling multiple contractors....

Brut is opening in the old Sapor space in the North Loop. Pretty big deal chefs, too. It'll be nice to have that space active again!
