Re: Minneapolis & St. Paul Fantasies and Speculations
On kind of a side note to this conversation, I believe that the Nice Ride idea is one of the better ones our city has implemented in recent history. They've expanded into NE and I see people riding them all the time! Do they have these stationed around the hotels downtown or are they trying to keep ...

Re: Lowry Avenue Bridge
While I like how the new bridge looks, I'm still not sure if it's the right design for that bridge. I drive past it every morning and I'm still trying to get used to it. Either way, it can't open fast enough for my liking! Having the traffic from three bridges (Broadway, Plymouth & Lowry) divert...

Re: What will it take to develop DTE?
I agree with MNDible, if you limit auto access to downtown or make it more difficult you will see downtown fade in a hurry; businesses will not want to expand or move downtown. I understand peoples desire to make things more pedestrian friendly and bike friendly, but this is not Europe and our clima...

Re: Xcel Energy HQ - (401 Nicollet Mall)
Maybe I'm short sighted, but I see nothing wrong with the amount of retail at US Bank Place, the entire second level is retail as well as most of the first floor. You have thousands of people to move in and out of the building, you NEED that much of a lobby to accomodate that number of people. The l...

Re: Xcel Energy HQ - (401 Nicollet Mall)
Xcel tends to have a high level of security and likes to limit access to their facilities, mostly as a protective measure to their clients; this does not lend well to having retail space in thier headquarters. I for one would appreciate any efforts they can put together to keep their building secure!

Re: The Interchange (At Target Field)
Maybe I'm wrong, but nothing in the drawings or model show me that retail is a part of this project. My assumption is that it will be left up to building owners and developers in surrounding properties to provide that aspect to the project. Since this is technically phase 1, maybe another phase woul...

My other answer would be that St Paul can't turn every building into housing so they might as well have at least one that serves another purpose

Re: Lower St. Anthony Falls Whitewater Park
Huge draw? Your definition and mine must be different. I'm not saying it wouldn't be unique and interesting, but I hardly think it would draw a ton of people. I can think of maybe 3 people in my life that would ever even consider going on something like this and I know a lot of people that are outdo...

" tailgating’s destructive qualities outweigh its benefits." ???????? :? I don't know what tailgating they are referring to, but I must have gone to the wrong places. Are people blowing up pavement that I'm not aware of? Since we're already criticizing the development before we have any s...

Re: Penn and American
That's right, I must have gotten my stores mixed up. The two stores always seemed to be the same type of store with the exception of the Craftsman tools in Sears. I still miss the Southtown Theater over there. The screens were huge! The seating was a little lumpy toward the end, but still a great th...

Isn't this the section that Molneau implemented her "shoulder lanes" to increase capacity without putting real money into it? How has that held up, 10 years later? As someone who drives this stretch every day I think it's still a bit better than it was, but that can change on a day to day...

Re: Penn and American
Yes, that used to be a Sears. They closed it up about the time that Sears was caught cheating customers out of tons of money for unnecessary repairs. Their business dropped to nothing and they pulled out. It took quite a while to fill that space. I'm still surprised that they haven't taken the autom...

I'm one of the 4 Nasa! I don't have season tickets, but I go when I can, usually a couple of times a year. The drunk driving statements actually made me laugh out loud! Have you been in the warehouse disctict on a weekend?!!! There are more inebriated people on a random Saturday night stumbling down...

It would be interesting to know how quickly he has historically moved on projects once he gains properties. It doesn't seem to me that this type of property is what he would have much experience with. His resume would lend me to believe that he would be looking at multifamily housing for these, but ...

Are you sure? I was under the impression he backed out of that deal and never acquired that land. You mean South of Washington?
I agree. Mostly because Zigi WIlf is a major developer and I believe he owns some of those vacant properties (and maybe will work with the Strib to acquire more).

I'm not saying that you're wrong, but I've never noticed the smell, and I've walked around the area quite a bit. I guess I wouldn't be surprised that, under certain weather conditions, it were an issue. But there are lots of places that have unpleasant smells blowing in depending on the direction o...

I believe they want 400k of space by 2015.
I love these buildings, they will really change the look of the neighborhood. They are sleek and classy if you ask me; I certainly wouldn't compare them to Centre Village.

It surprises me that it is that far out because they've almost finished the approach from Lowry to the bridge. It looked to me like the decking is complete. They still need to complete the reservoir for the rainwater, but beyond that it seems like smaller items to me.

...but a AAA team would also need considerably more fan support than the Saints get. Is this true? I think the Saints still sell around 6 or 7,000 tickets to their games -- I find it hard to believe that that's very far removed from what an average AAA team sells. Heck, the Expos probably didn't se...
