Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)
This document explains the historical significance. I don’t have time to read the whole thing, but the old photos & maps seem to paint an interesting picture. One person’s “government waste” is another person’s “history”. https://metrocouncil.org/Transportation/Projects/Light-Rail-Projects/South...

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171109/5d739cf18d196e4eb7522863670f6628.jpg When you look at the scale of 44th & France compared to any other commercial node in the area, it’s small. I don’t think the solid 5-6 stories of Excelsior & Grand is appropriate for something this small, and dir...

Future cars / Driverless cars
Ha ha. Well, as it says, it was the human driver’s error (as it is in virtually every case).
Roads & streets will be much, much safer when computers direct vehicles. It’s almost like we can’t trust humans with speed or attention.

Re: Municipal Boundaries and Suburban Annexation
From what I understand, it started a decade or so after Morningside merged. So maybe Morningside would be around today if fiscal disparities tax base sharing existed? Even so, who wants their taxes to go to support some tiny little village that doesn’t want to grow up? These microburbs might have ma...

This seems like sort of a big deal: Bob Lutz (formerly of General Motors) says the end is nigh for cars & car culture:

Re: Municipal Boundaries and Suburban Annexation
Even Morningside, which looks much more like Minneapolis than Edina, merged with another suburb, Edina. Morningside shares a zip code and water supply with Mpls, but a school district with Edina. And it was originally splintered off from Edina, so there’s that. It really depends on local circumstanc...

Re: 44th & France - Edina/Minneapolis
3-4 stories there seems fine by me, with a potential 5th story in return for the developer contributing to better infrastructure. A (retracted) proposal for redeveloping the dry cleaners’ building included a partial 5th story, in return for more green space. That seemed a reasonable compromise. Sent...

http://minnesota.cbslocal.com/2017/11/06/glenwood-avenue-bike-lanes/ Harrison resident complains that new bike lanes on Glenwood force residents to park "several blocks away," yet well more than half the parking spaces behind her in the interview are empty. . “Formally there was a bike la...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
My guess is that, subconsciously at least, motorists won’t think a bike a lane is “busy” or “well used” unless it’s as full as a car lane. But of course with bikes being much smaller, a full bike lane will carry *more* people than cars. And as EOst points out, network effects are a big deal—without ...

Re: Dan Patch Intercity Regional Passenger Rail
And while the existing tracks mean that the Dan Patch corridor is the cheapest place to put up new transit, certainly the growth in other areas (Southdale/France) suggests that demand for transit is much higher in other parts of the city/region.

Re: Dan Patch Intercity Regional Passenger Rail
Kimley Horn was not directed to do an exhaustive study. Rather, the city council tasked the transportation commission with answering the question: is it *worth* studying further? Is there sufficient existing & projected density, demand, & interest from neighboring municipalities, and is the ...

Town Hall Station was finished in August or September. It has been packed every night since then. It is a huge amenity to the neighborhood.

Re: 44th & France - Edina/Minneapolis
The City of Edina redesigned its web site, so the Small Area Plans are now here: https://www.edinamn.gov/657/Small-Area-Plans There has been huge pushback by (some) residents. Rather than a discussion of what the area could be (ped/bike infrastructure, etc.) it’s turned into a discussion of height &...

44th & France - Edina/Minneapolis
As part of Edina's Comprehensive Plan Update this year & next, Edina will be creating small area workgroups for 3 neighborhood areas. The first one to kick off is the 44th & France Small Area Plan Work Group. There's a page on the city's web site for the work group, but it seems to be just a...

Just finished a fantastic kickoff meeting for the 2018 Edina 10-year Bicycle & Pedestrian Plan management team.
If you live, work, or play in Edina, now is the time for The Airing of Grievances.
Positive suggestions welcomed, too.

That street isn't part of this plan because it crosses property lines. The city has talked about putting it there, but has to work with multiple property owners. It would be a great addition.

Re: Excelsior and Grand Area Development - St. Louis Park
Maybe they're waiting for either of the apartments adjacent to the Wolfe Parkway extension to redevelop (although the one north of Monterey just got a new paint job, so no redevelopment there any time soon). Either (or both) of those potential streets would be a godsend. It is so hard to get from pl...
