Re: Minneapolis Fiber Internet and Cable Services

Saw crews working on 5th Ave S near 46th street yesterday. That area not scheduled to go live until October, does that mean they're ahead of schedule? (my street is scheduled in November but would love to get it sooner!)

Re: Car Sharing / Rental (Car2Go, HourCar, etc.)

I thought that Car2Go's system actually prohibited you from parking in such areas (via GPS coordinates so precise they can tell what side of the street you're on and direction). Like you just can't end a trip in such "tow away zones", at least the metered ones. If you look at the interact...

Re: Car Sharing / Rental (Car2Go, HourCar, etc.)

I just read that document and it is mostly talking about meters. And it has this example: Not allowed – Jim wants to park at a meter in downtown Minneapolis at 3pm Thursday afternoon. The meter he finds has a red band at the top stating “EXCEPT NO PARKING TOW AWAY ZONE 4PM-6PM MON-FRI”. He will be ...

Re: Car Sharing / Rental (Car2Go, HourCar, etc.)

There are usually 2 or3 Car2Gos on E Hennepin there, most days. I figure that entire stretch needs a 4-3 conversion. Trucks have creamed parked vehicles before in this area. But they are new, maybe the last few weeks. It's a very busy and tight area. I'd say no parking with the current setup. I gue...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure

Oh and apparently 42nd St has bicycle facilities, per this sign at 18th Ave S (just west of Cedar). No idea why they put it there. https://farm1.staticflickr.com/498/19311426505_9105c6c20f.jpg 20150630_202152 by Matt Steele , on Flickr If I'm remembering it correctly there are bike lanes that end a...

Former Nokomis Lanes sold to become bilingual day care and offices http://www.bizjournals.com/twincities/news/2015/05/28/nokomis-lanes-sold-minneapolis-bilingual-day-care.html I had heard about this a few months ago but it was not confirmed at the time. The bowling alley closed in 2009 IIRC. The bo...

Re: Southside - General Topics

I believe the Minneapolis liquor store zoning requirements are that it's 5 acres continuous C2 or higher. You can see from this map that there's very little in South Minneapolis not already claimed (and at least a few appear to be grandfathered in). http://cityoflakes.maps.arcgis.com/apps/Edit/index...

Re: Sunday Liquor Sales and other Beer/Liquor Legislation

I hope this eventually passes so we can move onto issues that liquor stores and the MLBA may actually get behind, like allowing on/off sale of beer and wine at liquor stores, allowing growler fills of various sizes at liquor stores, and allowing brewpubs to distribute their product. Those are the th...

Re: Minneapolis - St. Paul Business News

I didn't say the stores are dirty or tired - they're not, for the most part. I'm saying I feel those things if I shop at a Target (and I rarely do). Dirty - for the sprawl I'm supporting. Annoying and tired - for having to navigate traffic, a block-deep parking lot, and throngs of humanity that cro...

Re: Rock the Garden

I wondering how Eaux Claires fits into the music scene. It's obviously not in MN, but it's pretty damn close. And it got a lot of attention. Probably a little too indie, but it should be an exciting festival. Not in Minnesota but a short drive away. A lot of people attending from the Twin Cities. S...

Has anything moved into the old Wells Fargo Building at Grand and Concord Exchange? I worked at that site for several years. It employed 250-300 people including a back office for one of their businesses and a bank branch. Wells shut down the bank branch it and moved the back office functions to Men...

Re: Minneapolis Cable Television

But, in this century, when all other IP services do not necessitate a municipal franchise, what makes *this* IP service any different? Possibly because they're offering it on their own lines with which they already have a franchise agreement, versus Netflix or someone piggybacking on someone else's...

I miss the greek deli for the gyro omelette and the pancakes, but net-net, I think Town Hall Tap is a huge gain for the neighborhood. It set the bar high when it opened in 2010.

Re: Minneapolis Cable Television

In other news, people still pay for television service. I find the legal streaming services to still be quite sub par in terms of show selection, time available, etc. If you ala carte purchase TV shows thrown in with a couple of $7-10 streaming subs you can quickly get up to the cost of digital sta...
